for Zen Malikpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time

    Warks 660-5 v Surrey

What a moment for Zen Malik.

Given a professional contract at the age of 27, he scores a Championship century in only his second match, reaching it off 116 balls with a lofted four off Dan Lawrence.

That's arguably a bigger achievement than Tom Latham's debut hundred for Warwickshire earlier in this innings, as Malik has nothing like his international experience to draw on.

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 24-0

Remarkable to think that Simon Harmer - who is virtually guaranteed wickets at Chelmsford - is the only Essex bowler yet to take one in this match.

The spinner is on at the moment, but without success so far and he's been dispatched for a couple of off-side boundaries by Adam Lyth, who is 21 not out.

  3. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 v Worcs 136-8

Tom Taylor and Brett D'Oliveira are doing well to add ballast to the Worcs innings here, picking off the singles where they are offered and generally chugging in the right direction.

It is not thrilling but the partnership is now up to 25 which is four short of the best of this Worcs effort (29 twice for the second and fourth wickets).

  4. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time

    Northants 238 & 40-2 v Lancs 276

James Sales turns Tom Bailey behind square for two and Northamptonshire are now in positive territory, having wiped out the first innings arrears of 38.

Sales is on nine, with Luke Procter 18 not out. It's tough going for the batters, though and Bailey in particular is keeping things tight for Lancashire.

  5. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time

    Warks 650-5 v Surrey

Single to Zen Malik. That's 650 up for Warwickshire and a 200 partnership - a sixth-wicket club record against Surrey, beating the 199 by Dick Lilley and Charles Baker in 1906.

  6. 'What a match for Kyle Abbott'published at 15:38 British Summer Time

    Notts 333 & 11-1 v Hants 196

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

What a match Kyle Abbott is having! The Where's Wally crowd go absolutely potty away to our left.

Notts are 11-1 and Haseeb Hameed is out. Hameed was trying to get down the track to him and was almost on the walk as he was trying to play it. Might be something to look at with the coaches and the analysts.

This game is rapidly moving on, we've had 11 wickets already today and still more than 40 overs remaining on day two.

  7. Postpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time

    Warks 648-5 v Surrey

    Oh dear.

Ed Barnard on-drives, Jordan Clark is in position to cut it off but makes a real hash of what should be a routine sliding stop and gifts four to the Warwickshire all-rounder, who is now 173 not out.

  8. 6 runs

Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time

    Warks 637-5 v Surrey

    Incredible.

Tom Lawes drops short and Zen Malik hammers it several rows back into the Hollies Stand at square leg.

It's a short boundary on that side for this game and he certainly made the most of it there.

Malik is 90 not out and this is the highest score ever made by a Warwickshire team against Surrey.

    Hameed b Abbott 8 (Notts 333 & 11-1 v Hants 196)

What a match Kyle Abbott is having.

Now he has the wicket of the Nottinghamshire captain to go with 5-57 in the first innings and a barnstorming 67 with the bat earlier.

This one has beaten Haseeb Hameed for pace and not only that, it has flattened his off stump.

The match is rattling along at pace with Notts leading by 148 and that wicket brings first innings centurion Freddie McCann to the crease.

  10. Postpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time

    Warks 631-5 v Surrey

The personal bests continue to pile up at Edgbaston.

A single off Cameron Steel takes Ed Barnard to 166 not out - the highest score of his career.

He is almost gone as he swings across the line at Tom Lawes in the next, but the lbw appeal is not upheld - presumably on height.

  11. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 11-0

It's been a fairly sedate start to Yorkshire's second innings - but then again, that was also the case first time around for the first 40 overs or so.

We've had nine bowled so far and Fin Bean has just a single to his name from 25 balls, while Adam Lyth is on 10.

But there's no time pressure here, with more than half the match remaining as the visitors look to build on their advantage - currently 104.

    Singh c Tribe b TVDG 0 (Kent 23-5 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec)

Timm van der GugtenImage source, Getty Images

    Remarkable scenes at Canterbury.

Ekansh Singh lasts just five balls in his first Championship innings as he becomes the second Kent batter to fall victim to a bat-pad catch off Timm ven der Gugten.

Glamorgan - understandably - are farmyard avian a hoop.

  13. Postpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time

    Warks 615-5 v Surrey

Zen Malik is down the track and chips Tom Lawes straight back over his head for four.

The bowler then gets away with a low full toss which Malik, who came through the South Asian Cricket Academy, drills to mid-on.

  14. 'Quite the gap between the two sides'published at 15:20 British Summer Time

    Notts 333 v Hants 196

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

The man who's played such an important part in this match - Freddie McCann - takes the catch.

That is quite a gap between the two on first innings and there's not a sign of this pitch altering a great deal.

Mohammad Abbas gets a very generous round of applause.

  15. Postpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time

    Warks 610-5 v Surrey

The Surrey field is spread so far and wide now, wicketkeeper Ben Foakes may need a loudhailer to communicate with his team-mates.

Six added to the total from Cameron Steel's latest over - the 152nd of Warwickshire's first innings.

    Time for drinkies.

    Muyeye c Tribe b TVDG 4 (Kent 23-4 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec)

    Another one gone at Canterbury.

Tawenda Muyeye pushes forward to Timm van der Gugten, the ball takes the inside edge and a bat-pad chance flies to Asa Tribe at short leg.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time

    Bartlett c Hartley b Williams 8 (Northants 238 & 19-2 v Lancs 276)

Without delay, Will Williams takes his revenge for that six.

Two balls after George Bartlett flayed him out of the ground, the Lancashire seamer digs one in that climbs and takes the shoulder of the bat, looping off for the gully fielder to grab.

James Sales comes out with Northamptonshire still 19 behind and already two wickets down.

  18. Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time

    Northants 238 & 19-1 v Lancs 276

That's quite a shot from George Bartlett, who whips Will Williams off his hip and over the old signal box at Wantage Road for six.

No question of that ball being retrieved in a hurry, so the umpires will go and bring out a replacement.

Bartlett has eight and Luke Procter 10.

  19. Warwickshire reach 600published at 15:11 British Summer Time

    Warks 600-5 v Surrey

When was the last time Surrey conceded 600 runs in a Championship innings? More recent than you might think - Hampshire scored 608-6 declared last summer.

Three fours for Zen Malik in the same Cameron Steel over bring up that milestone for Warwickshire, who - we should remind you - have only lost one wicket so far today, Tom Latham for 184.

Malik is now 64 not out and Ed Barnard has 158.

  20. wicket

HANTS 196 ALL OUTpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time

    Abbott c McCann b Ahmed 67 (Notts 333 v Hants 196, trail by 137 runs)

Kyle Abbott's entertaining and powerful knock comes to an end with a slightly underpowered slog to long on to bring the Hampshire innings to an end.

Freddie McCann took a few steps to his left before pouching a simple grab a few yards inside the rope and the deficit on Notts first innings is 137.

That seems pretty significant on a pitch where wickets for both sides have fallen with regularity but we will see what the second half of this game has in store.
