India captain Rohit Sharma: "Before you play any game, you've got to be confident. As the game goes on, there's different emotions that come through, you've got to be ready for whatever situation. There's a lot of experience in the dressing room, KL and Gill at the end were very composed.

"We knew the pitch was going to be on the slower side. You play the conditions, we adapted well with our bowling, with the bat we were under pressure a bit, but against a quality team you're bound to be and that's where experience comes in.

"Every time we throw the ball at Shami he's got something up his sleeve. Gill, we know the class that he has. What he showed us with the bat shouldn't surprise anyone, and he made sure he got to the end."

On the dropped catch which cost Axar Patel a hat-trick: "Maybe I'll take Axar for dinner tomorrow. That was an easy catch, I should have taken it."

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto: "To lose as many wickets in the first powerplay really lost us the game. We were ultimately 25 or 30 runs short.

"I was proud of the way Jaker [Ali] and [Tawhid] Hridoy batted. We made some mistakes in the field, a few drop catches and run-outs that should have been taken so the game could have been very different.

"Jaker [Ali] and [Tawhid] Hridoy were so impressive in the way they batted together especially on this wicket. The way they handled the contest was pleasing and I hope they continue this in the rest of the competition.

"I don't think we were a spinner short but we could have used the new ball a lot better. We have played in different conditions in our series against Pakistan recently so it shouldn't be too much of a change for us in our next game."

More from player of the match Shubman Gill on the two sixes he hit: "Which six did I prefer? The first one gave me confidence and the second put me closer to my hundred. Both were pleasing to me!"

Player of the match Shubman Gill: "Definitely one of my most satisfying centuries and my first in ICC events.

"Cutting the ball was not easy because it did not come on to the bat so easily. I used my feet to the fast bowlers and when the spinners came myself and Virat [Kohli] talked it was not easy to score off the front foot so we rotated the strike with shots off the back foot.

"At one point there was pressure on us and the message was to bat to the end which I tried to do."

When Bangladesh were 35-5, this game could have been all over very quickly. They did well to recover but ultimately the target of 229 wasn't good enough.

India will want to work on their catching but it was phenomenal from them all round.
