Summary

  1. Ind 118-2published at 24 overs

Shreyas Iyer almost runs himself out without scoring, hurrying down the track after Gill pushed the ball to mid-off.

He's sent back and a direct hit would seen him heading back to the pavilion, but the throw is wide.

A single brings on him strike and he gets off the mark by edging the returning Mustafizur through an empty cordon for four.

  2. Ind 112-2published at 23 overs

Kohli with his usual wide-eye stare wondering how he is out. Looking back, he was slightly sluggish. He didn't really get things going for India at all.

Can Bangladesh turn the screw now or will India put their foot on the gas?

    Kohli c Soumya b Rishad 22 (Ind 112-2)

    Rishad gets Kohli!

Strange shot, getting low and leaning back to try and manufacture a cut shot and toe-ending the ball straight to Soumya Sarkar at backward point.

A 38-ball 22 from India's greatest ODI batter, he never really got going today.

This is a low pressure chase for India but Bangladesh can't became lethargic and neglect the flow of runs which are coming quickly. They need some wickets desperately.

  6. Ind 111-1published at 22 overs

    A four!

Just the second since the powerplay, and Kohli's first from his 35th delivery, whipping a leg side delivery from Mehidy out to the square leg ropes.

India are in red hot form and are bringing that form into this first game. They had to work a little bit harder with the ball than they would have liked.

This partnership is building nicely, Kohli taking things a bit slower than Gill but the 100 on the board is a positive.

  8. Ind 104-1published at 21 overs

For the third over in a row, Rishad concedes three singles.

    India just keep chugging along.

Hundred up for India as Shubman Gill turns Mehidy towards square leg.

There's a fielder out there, and the India batters run two.

Re Tymal Mills at 14:10 what a great comment on how cricketers should use their head not their muscle to build an innings. England take heed.

    Copy. Paste.

Three singles off Rishad this time.

India don't need to score especially quickly - they've score 28 off the last nine overs, but the required run-rate is still just 4.25 an over.

This could well turn into a slow and dull chase as Virat Kohli plays for himself and his 'not out'.

Kohli is taking things a little bit slowly at the moment. India have the luxury of being able to do that but they don't want to fall too far behind.

  14. Ind 94-1published at 18 overs

Mehidy is still keeping it tight, three singles from his fourth over.

India have hit just one boundary since losing Rohit from the penultimate ball of the powerplay.

  15. Ind 91-1published at 17 overs

Spin at both ends now as Bangladesh introduce their 22-year-old leggie Rishad Hossain.

Three singles come from his first over.

Shubman Gill played a shot which probably wasn't the best to play. Slightly fortuitous for him. As a bowler, you are praying for one of your fielders to get under shots like that.

  18. Ind 84-1published at 15 overs

There's the first boundary in a while.

Shubman Gill steps down the pitch to lift Tanzim over the covers for four.

He adds one more with a fortuitous chip, just over the head of mid-on.

  19. Ind 78-1published at 14 overs

Shubman Gill waits for Mehidy's last delivery then scoops it into the outfield at fine leg for two.

    He's on a steady 31 from 35 balls.

Kohli will want to get into the wicket and use the time to get used to the surface. Each player will have a different objective to get out of the game.

A lot of cricket is problem solving and developing different strategies to play against different teams and on different surfaces. The teams who do that the quickest are usually the most successful.
