    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Alex Lees and Emilio Gay have broken Durham's record for a second-wicket stand in first-class cricket.

Moments after Lees hit Matthew Revis' first ball of the day for six, he was caught by Ben Sears at long leg, following a top edge off the third ball of the over.

It ended a stand with Gay of 279, which is five more than the partnership achieved by Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick, in 2014 against Middlesex.

Revis then got Colin Ackermann for an eight-ball duck in his next over. He was caught behind by Jonny Bairstow.

Gay has 120 and Durham now trail Yorkshire by four runs.

    Ackermann c Bairstow b Revis 0 (Durham 303-3 v Yorks 307)

Another for Matthew Revis and a fine catch too... and if ever the perils of sitting in your pads for the best part of a day were in evidence that was it.

A 279-run partnership is brought to an end in one over and Matthew Revis is back in his next to dismiss a rusty Colin Ackermann.

The Durham man dangled a bat at one which seams off the pitch and Jonny Bairstow takes a good catch behind the stumps, diving in front of first slip.

New balls can come off the face of the bat quicker and Simon Harmer cracks the first delivery of Matthew Waite's latest over through backward point for four.

The South African's timing is perfect two balls later as he clips the right-arm seamer for another to mid-wicket.

Harmer is 28 not out and the lead is 242.

A fine catch at deep backward square from Ben Sears ends a huge innings from Alex Lees.

The Durham skipper, formerly of a Yorkshire parish of course, had just brought up the home side's 300 despatching a flat, pulled six over backward square leg off the bowling of Matthew Revis

But his attempt to repeat the dose two balls later is not timed as well and Ben Sears scurries in from the rope to take a well-judged catch diving forward 25 yards in.

It brings to an end a partnership of 279 between Lees and Emilio Gay.

  16. new ball

New ball taken at Chelmsfordpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time

Just a couple for Shane Snater off Matthew Waite.

Time for the new ball and the reintroduction into the attack of Jacob Duffy.

Essex lead by 233 - how quickly can Worcestershire polish off these three remaining wickets?

Duffy starts with one way wide of off stump which Simon Harmer ignores.

  17. 'Thain wicket was bonus for Worcestershire'published at 11:40 British Summer Time

    Essex 179 & 256-7 v Worcs 202

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

That wicket was a bit of a bonus for Worcestershire because Ethan Brookes was trying to get through the over before the new ball is due but he's picked up that wicket.

  18. 100 runs

100 up for Surreypublished at 11:39 British Summer Time

    Sussex 435 v Surrey 101-1

Surrey still trail by 334 but this has been a solid enough start from Ollie Pope and Dom Sibley despite a very good opening spell from Jayden Seales.

The West Indies quick is finding a little bit of movement through the air and has just come very close to finding Sibley's outside edge.

  19. Postpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time

    Warwicks 93 v Notts 226-5

A beautiful drive from Haseeb Hameed off the back foot through extra cover goes for four and puts him on to 84 not out.

Shot of the day so far at Edgbaston from Hameed.

  20. Postpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time

    Somerset 184 v Hants 233-3

Too much width from Somerset's Tom Lammonby, in his first over of the day, and Nick Gubbins expertly guides one down behind square for four to move on to 77.

That was picture perfect from Gubbins.
