He's trapped him! Fair play, their plan has worked and it's only cost them two sixes. Slower bouncer, Jamie Smith flew the shot too early, top edged it and it's gone straight to the fielder.

    Smith c Sundar b Akash Deep 88 (Eng 226-8)

Can Jamie Smith launch Akash Deep into the stands three times? No, he cannot...

After two quicker short balls, Deep serves up a slower off cutter and Smith is so far through a pull shot he's practically into tomorrow. He ends up skying it down to the hands of Washington Sundar down at deep midwicket.

Deep has a five-wicket haul for the first time in Test matches.

  3. 6 runs

And another. Classic Jamie Smith, as he pulls on the front foot to Akash Deep

Smith has moved on to 88.

  4. 6 runs

India have played great, they've played a strong brand of Test cricket. They were so positive with the bat in that second innings and recognised that England were tired. They've bowled with great skill today.

England have been second best today but that's down to the brilliance of this India side.

  6. drinks break

England 211-7 at drinkspublished at 55 overs

A ball before drinks and Jamie Smith backs away to leg to Prasidh Krishna and ends up playing a kind of hockey stop to a slower fuller delivery.

Nice hit from Brydon Carse there. He timed it nicely and sent it straight to that wide open space.

  9. Eng 210-7published at 54.3 overs

Jamie Smith manufactures a single off the first ball of Prasidh Krishna's over and then a couple of balls later Brydon Carse gets himself off the mark with a four punched between point and gully.

If needs be, India will have 16 overs with the new ball and we've seen how well they've used it. If England want any chance, these two are going to have to hang in there.

  11. Eng 204-7published at 54 overs

Brydon Carse is England's new batter, by the way. He's on a pair and ducks out of the way of a couple of short ones then defiantly blocks out.

Jamie Smith has now passed 300 runs since he was last out. He's the fourth wicketkeeper in Test history to do so.

I am in the Netherlands and I was getting hopeful about England making it to tea at 17.10 and then battling out in a final session. Then I remembered the one hour time difference.

There's a Mexican wave going around the ground. This is feeling even more like an India party now.

75% of Edgbaston must be supporting the tourists.

Smith has lbw decision overturned after DRS review

The ball-tracking technology shows the ball was going over the stumps...by quite some distance. No wonder Jamie Smith look perplexed when that was given.

That's been immediately reviewed. Jamie Smith thinks it's been edged.

What on earth is Woakes doing there. We're going to strand Smith twice in the game.

Chris Woakes has mistimed it, banged it, top-edged, nice simple catch for Mohammed Siraj. That draw we were talking about is long gone now.
