Right then, England have got something to build on and they will want another couple of wickets before the close.

To see if they can get and to take you through the remainder of day, it's over to Timothy Abraham.

Loose shot from Georgia Voll. She was tempted into the shot but it's well wide.

    It's a ball she should've left.

Edged and gone! Breakthrough for England.

It's loose from Georgia Voll on debut as she chases a full, wide ball from Lauren Bell.

It was there to drive but Voll isn't quite there for it and nicks through to Amy Jones behind the stumps.

    The tourists needed that.

Shot of the day, I reckon.

A touch full from Lauren Bell and Phoebe Litchfield, who is on two from 24 balls, shows it the full face of the bat.

Right out of the middle and back down the ground for four.

That will help get the left-hander going.

You should never judge an innings, until both teams have batted, but that was awful from England. They simply cannot carry on playing like this, even if they manage to turn the tables on Australia. England are better than this, they fought better in the last series. They have been well and truly outplayed in every aspect.

England need a string of good deliveries to start building the pressure.

Full toss from Lauren Filer and Georgia Voll is not going to miss out.

    Pummelled through mid-off for four.

In a tour for England where successes and good news have been hard to come by, I think Lauren Bell has been excellent.

    Good over from Lauren Bell.

The seamer probes around the off stump of Phoebe Litchfield, beating the edge as the Australia opener flirts at one she could have left.

No breakthrough yet but the ball is doing a bit under lights for the seamers.

I'm being pretty critical but England have probably had four cracker deliveries, other than that, Australia have not really had to think about what they're doing.

    Chance? Not quite.

Georgia Voll tries to work the ball to leg off Lauren Bell and it pops up towards Tammy Beaumont at short leg.

Off the face of the bat and just over Beaumont's head. Close.

Lauren Filer has begun well here.

Bowling at the MCG under lights, any nerves aren't showing. Instead, she seems to be enjoying the big occasion.

She fizzes one past Phoebe Litchfield's outside edge before ending the over with a yorker.

Dug out but well fielded at short leg. Another maiden.

That's just too easy for Georgia Voll, Lauren Bell hasn't found her line yet.

Short, wide and thrashed through the covers for four by Georgia Voll.

Disappointing for Lauren Bell, who will know that was a freebie.

Good pace to start from Lauren Filer.

The England seamer stays over the wicket to Phoebe Litchfield, angling the ball across the left-hander.

An edge sees the ball end up in the hands of gully but only after it bounced well short. Maiden.

What England can't do here is go chasing wickets. Things can snowball quickly so they have to retain the discipline around off stump.

There's some good energy from these English fielders, let's see if they can carry it through.

Georgia Voll is away first ball, driving a full ball from Lauren Bell through point for a couple.

But the right-hander is beaten by a beauty from Bell two balls later. It angles in at the stumps then nips away to miss the bat by a whisker.

Swing first ball from Lauren Bell. It shapes back in to the left-handed Phoebe Litchfield, who comes forward to defend.

A single next ball brings Georgia Voll, on Test debut, on strike.
