Summary

  1. 6 runs

    Eng 208-9published at 33 overs

    Atkinson on the charge!

He blazes Hardik for consecutive fours, both through the covers with the latter bringing up England's 200.

He goes better from the next ball, clouting the India all-rounder down the ground for six.

A dot ball to finish the over, but Atkinson is now on 33 from 14.

It's spiralled a bit in the past half an hour. It looked like England might have threatened India a bit when Root and Banton were there but when one of them went, it's all gone down hill. It looks like the ball is moving a bit so you've got to give the benefit of the doubt to some of the England batters.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 32.1 overs

    Wood c Shreyas b Hardik 9 (Eng 193-9)

    Finds the fielder.

Given the circumstances, Mark Wood decided he was here for a good time rather a long time... and that time is now over.

Another big shot out to the cover boundary, but this the ball is greeted by Shreyas Iyer.

Saqib Mahmood walks out as the last man.

  5. Eng 193-8published at 32 overs

Wood comes in on strike and finds more joy through the covers, driving Washington uppishly over the boundary for four.

The next ball is an attempt at a big heave that goes through to the keeper - the umpires take a look at a stumping chance, but Wood's foot didn't move from behind the line.

  6. Eng 187-8published at 31.2 overs

And now Gus Atkinson gets in on the act, getting down low to sweep Washington's opening delivery across the outfield to the square boundary.

He edges the following delivery, with the ball dropping just wide of Rohit Sharma at slip and running away to the ropes.

  7. Eng 179-8published at 31 overs

    Textbook cover drive.

New batter Mark Wood sends Hardik to the boundary to close the 31st over with a four.

It genuinely upsets me how people like Rashid must feel when they have to come out to bat in these situations. Where's the motivation for him to bowl well?

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 30.3 overs

    Rashid b Hardik 0 (Eng 175-8)

    Out for a duck.

Adil Rashid goes to pull the returning Hardik Pandya, with the ball dug in short.

It keeps a little low though, and Rashid bottom edges onto his stumps.

Big grins from Hardik - he knows India have almost got this wrapped up.

The players will take drinks three balls early.

  10. Eng 174-7published at 30 overs

    183 needed from 20 overs

The wicket-taking delivery was also a wide, so Adil Rashid has three balls to face from Washington.

He fends them all away without scoring.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 29.4 overs

Livingstone st Rahul b Washington 9 (Eng 173-7)

The England wickets continue to tumble...

Washington whips a faster ball down the leg side, which Liam Livingstone looks to whip square.

He's beaten by the surprise pace and KL Rahul whips off the bails.

Livingstone doesn't even attempt to make his ground - he knew he was toast.

Shane: Death, taxes, Livingstone swinging like a rusty gate.

  13. Eng 172-6published at 29 overs

Harshit continues and Gus Atkinson hurries through a two down to long leg.

Livingstone flails at the final delivery of the over, but the ball passes through to the keeper without connection.

I know it's one of the hardest things in cricket playing India in Indian conditions in front of a passionate Indian crowd. But it feels as if India's batters have just placed more value on their wickets. So many of the England dismissals have felt careless, even if they care deeply (which I'm sure they do).

  15. Eng 168-6published at 28 overs

Gus Atkinson in at number eight for England.

He gets off the mark with a single to long-off, then closes Washington's over with a wristy drive through the covers for four.

    Ah.

Harry Brook departs from the final ball of Harshit's over, defending a delivery down into the ground, off his body and onto the stumps.

An unfortunate dismissal perhaps, but the England batter has to walk regardless.

  18. Eng 160-5published at 26.2 overs

Livingstone takes a big swinging drive attempt at Harshit's opener, with the ball scudding past the outside edge.

He makes a better connection from the following delivery, pulling for four through mid-wicket.
