A target of 350+ has been chased on 10 occasions in ODI history. Three of the 10 have been managed by England.

  2. Eng 10-0published at 2 overs

    Target 357

England have already lost Jacob Bethell for the Champions Trophy. They have worries over Jamie Smith's calf too, although the word is he could have played today had it been a World Cup final.

  3. Eng 10-0published at 1.5 overs

    And that's a lovely shot!

Shorter from Harshit Rana and pulled for four by Ben Duckett.

  4. Eng 6-0published at 1.4 overs

Duckett protects that groin by flicking the next delivery to the boundary.

    No running necessary there.

  5. Eng 2-0published at 1.3 overs

Now Duckett is hit close to the groin he was grasping earlier. England's left-hander is limping badly.

  6. Eng 2-0published at 1.2 overs

Harshit Rana's first ball keeps horribly low, leaving Phil Salt swinging at fresh air but more worryingly clattering into wicketkeeper KL Rahul's bent knee.

    That has hurt Rahul.

  7. Eng 1-0published at 1 over

    Salt 1, Duckett 0

Ben Duckett looked to have tweaked a groin earlier but he has come out to bat. One to keep an eye on.

It's an unexpectedly quiet start from England's openers, who take just a single from Arshdeep Singh's opening over.

  8. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

    Target 357

    Thanks Mike.

This is obviously a massive target but what I will say is this is a chaser's ground.

New Zealand knocked off 283 for the loss of one wicket in 36.2 overs here against at the 2023 World Cup. The dew came down big time that day.

Right, it's almost time to get going again.

With England set to chase 357, it's time to hand you over to Matthew Henry for the start of their reply.

Ok. England are getting a spanking. But can we all take a moment to appreciate the longevity and genius of Adil Rashid. We shall miss him when he hangs up his boots.

If you've not read it yet, this piece from Jo Currie on the Afghanistan women's team is excellent and so powerful - chronicling the team's journey to Australia after the Taliban returned to power in their homeland and effectively banned female participation in sport. Jo's story complements an iPlayer documentary on the team, called 'Cricket's forgotten team', which can be seen here.

Shubman Gill just takes good decisions at good times. It was a marvellous innings and set up and laid a platform for India to play more expansively as the innings went on.

Over in Colombo, Sri Lanka have successfully defended 214 against Australia.

Maheesh Theekshana claimed 4-40 as Australia were bowled out for 165.

The Aussies were 31-5 before Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey shared 52 for the fifth wicket.

However, both fell in quick succession and Australia were unable to recover, eventually suffering a 49-run defeat.

The loss comes after seamer Mitchell Starc made himself unavailable for the Champions Trophy and asked for privacy.

We said England would need to find a way to take wickets and they did that. You would take 8-135 in the final 17 overs any day.

They are still in the game.

It could have been a lot worse for England. At the second drinks break India were looking well beyond the target they got so England plugged well.

It will still be a tough challenge, but it is a ground where chasing can be easier.

Adil Rahid was the pick of England's bowlers, taking 4-64 - only he and Saqib Mahmood (1-68) bowled their full compliment of overs.

Joe Root (1-47 from five overs) and Gus Atkinson (1-74 off eight) both went for over nine runs an over.

  18. 'We'll have the mindset of going out there and chasing it down'published at 11:53 Greenwich Mean Time

England spinner Adil Rashid talking to TNT Sports: 'I think it was ok, the team bowled well. It's nice to get anyone out. They're a team full of top class players.'

'For myself, it's about a lot of practise at the nets but also identifying what type of leg spinner I want to be.'

'It was nice, once you get the ball in the right area and get the right type of rev. It would be nice to get a good bowl every time, but it's not possible.'

'The pitch looked slightly on the slower side. It looked like quite a quick scoring game. Hopefully we'll have the mindset of going out there and chasing it down.'

How has Mark Wood, England's most economical bowler and arguably best at bowling at the death, not bowled his 10 overs? Buttler, what are you doing!??

    Tony, Hull.

How on earth have we seen 5 overs of Root but Wood hasn't bowled 10???
