Commitment to the plan, Shemar Joseph defended those last two balls well.

  2. WI 430-9published at 109 overs

    Lead by 14

Just a single from the Joe Root over and Shamar Joseph solidly blocks the last two deliveries of the over.

This, er, fascinating passage of play continues. We could have another 27 minutes of it unless England take a wicket sooner.

If you need proof that their plan isn't working it's that they've now got spin at both ends.

More spin. Joe Root is coming on to bowl with lunch approaching. Although, we may get an extra half hour if there isn't a wicket in this over...

Ben Stokes talks to Mark WoodImage source, Getty Images

I do find it strange that Stokes et all talk about entertaining when it comes to their batting and also with attacking fields to take wickets. However that doesn’t seem to be the case towards the end of their innings. Very peculiar and the opposite of entertaining and the brand they purport to want to showcase.

The crowd is getting a bit restless, they want to see more Shamar Joseph.

A change of approach from England as off-spinner Shoaib Bashir is brought on.

The field stays out for Josh Da Silva, though, and he is able to find a pocket on the leg side that allows him to run two.

The field comes up for the last ball, Da Silva goes after it but skews the ball over mid-off, just out of reach of the fielder for a single.

England have been as poor in the past half an hour or so as they were good in the first part of the morning. Shades of Headingley 2014, when Angelo Mathews and Rangana Herath did the same thing to the same plan and ultimately gave Sri Lanka a shock win.

What a fantastic over that was for the West Indies.

  10. WI 426-9published at 107 overs

Gus Atkinson continues with the short stuff but the ball flies to the boundary again.

It's a top-edge from Shamar Joseph this time but the ball flies over the wicketkeeper and away for four.

What had been such a good morning for England is starting to get away from them with the last-wicket stand now worth 40.

Six more! And this one is onto the roof, sending a number of tiles sliding down and nearly hitting some of the fans below.

A remarkable shot from Shamar Joseph and the West Indies have a lead on first innings.

Magnificent shot, what a wonderful swivel pull from Shamar Joseph, thrilling stuff.

This is the other part of it, maybe the number 11 can bat.

This partnership, no matter how long it lasts, they've committed to what they wanted to do and it's wokred.

Wow. What a shot from Shamar Joseph!

He rocks back and pulls Gus Atkinson over the leg side for six. That really was a sweet strike.

    The scores are level.

Maiden over from Mark Wood as Josh Da Silva is unable to get the last delivery past gully.

There really is very little else to say. It's not a great advert for Test cricket at the moment.

Agree so much with Ruth at Trent Bridge. Chris Woakes is a magnificent bowler and now is his time to shine. Needs to feel loved and wanted and not just a bit part player.

We're used to seeing it from England now but did they make an error by spreading the field immediately to Josh Da Silva once they took the ninth wicket?

He hadn't been overly convincing with the ball moving around and yet suddenly he had no slips to contend with.

Anyway, Gus Atkinson goes past Shamar Joseph's outside edge to end the over. Da Silva will be on strike to face Mark Wood again.
