That's just Mark Wood's luck, the ball has just flown over the stumps.

The field spreads with Josh Da Silva on strike but Mark Wood nearly cleans him up with the first ball of the over.

That is because the batter moves to leg and tries to guide the ball to deep third. He misses and the ball whistles just past the stumps.

Five slips and a gully in place for the hat-trick ball - and it's a good one from Chris Woakes.

However, Shamar Joseph walks at the bowler and gets the inside edge he needs to survive.

    Over to Mark Wood...

That was the most perfect defensive movement, feet set, full face of bat and he's missed it.

He's about a second too late, it goes through the gate and then he plays the forward defence.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 98.5 overs

    Seales b Woakes 0 (WI 386-9)

Bowled 'im! Chris Woakes is on a hat-trick!

Over the wicket to the left-hander, angled across but then nipping back through the gate with Jayden Seales finishing in the perfect forward defence position.

Sadly for the West Indies man, the ball was past him before he got there.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 98.4 overs

    A Joseph c Smith b Woakes 10 (WI 386-8)

An almighty swing of the bat from Alzarri Joseph and a thin nick behind.

It was an ugly-looking shot as he tried to put Chris Woakes over long-on. But the ball was around a sixth stump line and Joseph feathered behind.

The umpire takes a while but eventually raises his finger and Joseph trudges off.

Seven overs in the first hour and Chris Woakes is coming back for his eighth of the morning after drinks.

I'm slightly surprised Ben Stokes hasn't brought himself on yet given the overhead conditions.

I don't think West Indies will get too far in front.

Much better bowling conditions, Woakes has got much better seam on the ball.

  9. drinks break

    WI 385-7published at 98 overs

    Trail by 31

It's good to see Mark Wood bowling after he forced forced off with what England hoped was just cramp - and that seems to have been the case. He's still hitting 90mph and above.

Ollie Pope is in at short leg, there is also a couple of slips and a gully so it won't just be a bouncer barrage.

The last ball of the over gets right through Alzarri Joseph and shoots along the ground, past Jamie Smith for four byes. The first byes Smith has conceded in his short Test career.

    Time for drinks.

Alzarri Joseph and Josh Da Silva are gradually starting to look that bit more comfortable at the crease.

How much is that due to both England bowlers being at the end of relatively long spells? That was Chris Woakes' seventh over of the morning and his last ball was just 75mph.

No surprise then that we're about to see the first bowling change of the day. Mark Wood is coming on to replace Gus Atkinson.

Here is that close call for Alzarri Joseph as Ben Stokes failed to cling on to a catch after racing in from the covers...

  12. WI 375-7published at 96 overs

    How did that miss?!

Gus Atkinson brings the ball back in sharply to Alzarri Joseph who drives hopefully at it.

The ball flies through a wide open gate but goes just over the top of off stump.

You feel like England could get a wicket every ball but Test cricket isn't like that.

They just need to stay solid.

  14. WI 372-7published at 95 overs

    A Joseph 8, Da Silva 37

In-swinger to end the over from Chris Woakes and it nearly gets through Josh Da Silva.

The batter is saved by an inside edge that sends the ball into his back leg.

Another close call but it's not quite happening for England.

For such a fine fielder, Stokes did great to make it to the ground but probably could've got both hands under it.

He'll be disappointed with that one, he's usually got such a fine pair of hands.

Not quite a second wicket of the day for Gus Atkinson in that over but here is the one he has taken.

Well bowled and a superb catch from Harry Brook at gully.

  17. WI 370-7published at 94 overs

Excellent over from Gus Atkinson again and it ends with him going past the bat once more.

Tough chance created and it feels like more will follow the way both Atkinson and Chris Woakes are bowling in these conditions.

Ben Stokes did well to run in, did all the hard work but couldn't hold on.

  19. dropped catch

Joseph dropped on 7published at 93.3 overs

    WI 370-7

    So close!

Leading edge from Alzarri Joseph as tries to work Gus Atkinson to leg and the ball balloons up into the off side.

Ben Stokes comes charging in from cover, dives forward, tries to take it one-handed and the ball pops out.

Great effort but could he have gone with both hands? A definite chance, albeit a tough one.

England are bowling well they just need to get some wickets, they've already had such a great start to the day.
