Summary

  1. Eng 189-3published at 39 overs

    Pow!

Cracking drive from Joe Root, firing Shamar Joseph through the covers.

With one ball in the over remaining, the umpires decide to hold a conference. They're presumably discussing the light - it is a bit gloomy out there.

    We'll continue for now.

Joe Root went down for a reverse sweep, was able to change last minute and still get the shot off.

Just goes to show how good he is.

  3. Eng 181-3published at 38 overs

Kevin Sinclair replaces Jason Holder as the West Indies reintroduce some spin into their attack.

Joe Root moves to reverse him before changing his mind, then bringing out the shot for the following delivery and earning a single.

We haven't had a maiden yet in this innings.

  4. Eng 180-3published at 37 overs

Just a single from the first over after resumption.

Harry Brook unfurls an impressive drive to a wide Shamar Joseph delivery, but finds the deep point fielder.

    Thanks Sam.

They're changing the ball here too.

Jason Holder's ruining his shirt in an attempt to give it some polish.

As the players stop for the refreshments, we'll take the opportunity for one final change, and a fully refreshed and newly energised Mike Peter is here to take you through the remainder of day three.

The close of playing will be 18:41 BST, weather and light permitting.

Whatever magic West Indies thought was in this changed ball, they now seem to think it has run out as Kraigg Brathwaite asks for it to be changed.

The umpire quickly turns him down before Harry Brook flicks the last ball of the over to the right of mid-on for three.

    Time for drinks.

Every run is vital, just ticking towards that 250.

We've still got a way to go.

We were all really concerned after Lord's, Fazeer had his head in his hands, Carlos was tutting away.

The West Indies have turned up and really competed.

  10. Eng 172-3published at 35 overs

    Lead by 131

Just a couple of singles from a fairly event-free Shamar Joseph over.

With the cloud overhead and the floodlights on, conditions are still looking good for the bowlers but the changed ball is perhaps softening just a tad now.

It's never wise to try and second guess Ben Stokes, Putmo, but I'd say 250 at the very least. Ideally 300-plus, I reckon.

What score (minimum) would England want to set the WI? Cheers.

If the West Indies can just sneak out two or three wickets in the last hour, they'll be in the perfect position.

  14. Eng 170-3published at 34 overs

    Ouch!

Jason Holder gets one to jag back and hit Harry Brook in the midriff.

Good signs for the West Indies but, if the pitch starts to misbehave a bit more often, it's not necessarily bad news for England either.

  15. Eng 169-3published at 33 overs

Double bowling change for West Indies with Shamar Joseph on now as well.

Joe Root is batting just out of his crease and flicks through square leg for two to start the over. Good running.

A push to mid-on gets him a single to keep strike.

If you're the West Indies you don't want to be chasing any more than 250.

  17. Eng 166-3published at 32 overs

    Lead by 125

Seven runs from the first over of Jason Holder's spell.

Harry Brook looks determined to take the attack to the all-rounder, so pretty much the same approach as he takes to every bowler.

    Extraordinary shot.

Holder's bowling is very predictable which can lead to shots like that.

  19. Eng 164-3published at 31.2 overs

It's not Joe but the Root family will have enjoyed that.

Harry Brook skips down and slaps Jason Holder back down the ground for four.

    Dismissive from the Yorkshireman.
