    Umpire's call - Bates survives!

Tracking has the ball brushing the leg stump. It looked pretty full and straight, but Bates did take a big stride down the wicket, allowing room for the ball to drift down.

A third wicket in the over? Could Suzie Bates be heading back to the hutch?

Nothing from the umpire, but England are on the hunt for lbw and are going to take a look.

That is a typical leg spinner's wicket, isn't it? An off spinner never gets that, they are getting that ball out of the stands. It is always leg spinners. A leg spinner going out to another leg spinner will really frustrate Amelia Kerr, because that is probably the worst ball Sarah Glenn could have bowled.

    A Kerr c Capsey b Glenn 0 (NZ 33-2)

Amelia Kerr is in... and out!

Two-ball duck for the New Zealand number three - Glenn's delivery appears to sit up to be hit, but perhaps sticks in the pitch a little and Kerr can only smack the ball straight into the hands of Alice Capsey at a short-ish mid-wicket.

Glenn has figures of 2-0 from 3 balls.

That has been the tale of the series really against the spinners. New Zealand haven't been able to get the job done and that is a bit of hoick. It's a bit of a swipe and Plummer loses her off stump. 17 is a start, but it could have been more.

Glenn strikes with her first ball!

Plimmer takes a big heave, misses and is clean bowled.

Plummer's main route of dismissal so far has been run outs. That comes out when you're under a lot of pressure and the dot balls build up. Good to see her looking a bit more assured and making a good start so far.

Spin at both ends as Sophie Ecclestone enters the attack.

She dives to stop a drive down the wicket from Plimmer, staying down for a moment but then getting to her feet with a smile.

Four off the over, and that's the end of the powerplay.

  9. NZ 29-0published at 5 overs

England introduce the left-arm spin of Linsey Smith in place of Sciver-Brunt.

Bates ramps her over her shoulder for two.

For all the intent shown, New Zealand have scored just two boundaries in the powerplay.

New Zealand have looked really timid so far in both series. It has been really encouraging in the last couple of games to see the intent and how they are trying to take on the bowlers.

They're looking to play with freedom and find the boundary. It brings about a little bit of cat and mouse and keeps England guessing.

    Cracking shot!

Bates absolutely smears Lauren Bell through mid-wicket, the ball skipping across the turf to the boundary.

That is why New Zealand have got big wraps on Georgia Plimmer. She's got power, she can hit the ball so clean. It's all there, but there's a difference between hitting it nice in the nets and the middle. Sometimes, it can only be little mistakes, one per centers that can cost you your wicket.

  13. NZ 16-0published at 3 overs

Georgia Plimmer seems up for it, continually advancing down the pitch to drive Nat Sciver-Brunt.

She picks up four down the ground, before Lauren Bell cuts off another shot in a similar area with a tumbling dive over the ropes.

The New Zealand opener then fires into the covers, where Sophia Dunkley recovers and takes a pop at the non-striker's end.

The ball ricochets off the stumps and the batters run a single.

Suzie Bates looks like she is in a mood. She hit the ball quite nicely in the last game. She's made moderate contributions in both series so far, but today, she looks like she wants a big, match-winning score.

  15. NZ 9-0published at 2 overs

Lauren Bell to open the bowling at the other end.

Georgia Plimmer gets off the mark with a thick edge through a vacant wide slip area, bringing Suzie Bates on strike.

The veteran swings for a few, sending one ball just short of backward point - Bell looks disappointed the fielder down there didn't try for the catch.

Sciver-Brunt has one shape away from Bates, before the New Zealand opener chips one towards mid-on for another two.

Three dot balls to close the over.

  17. NZ 2-0published at 0.1 overs

Bates guides the opening ball down to the point ropes for two.

The boundaries look very close, although it's a big ground so it might be a matter of perception.

This is an absolutely stunning ground, it completely takes your breath away. I'm sure the New Zealand players will be feeling in a similar way.

Suzie Bates has seen it all. I think her biggest influence, runs and wickets are nice. She will be proud of her runs, but it is the way she goes about it. She is a gem of a human being. I don't think you'd come across anyone who has played with or against her that would say anything different. She is a really upbeat person. She just genuinely loves the game, loves being involved with the White Ferns. I hope she has a few more years left so that she can continue to inspire.
