Summary

  1. Aus 289-3published at 41 overs

Need 27 runs from 54 balls

Marnus Labuschagne flicks a full toss from Liam Livingstone to the fence before words are exchanged between the two. They're two niggly characters.

As Labuschagne sweeps again, Jamie Smith fails to collect when the ball misses and there are four more byes to the total.

I thought this was going to be close. I was wrong.

Australia have made this chase look very easy so far. England needed to get close to 350 or 360 at least.

  3. Aus 276-3published at 40 overs

Need 40 runs from 60 balls

    And when it's your day...

Travis Head has done little wrong but this time he skews a horrible leading edge into a gap. There were fielders coming in from all directions but none can get there.

Adil Rashid gets the China out at the end of the over - standing there with the full teapot.

  4. 6 runs

    Aus 274-3published at 39.3 overs

Six more to Travis Head! This is some knock.

It has been an impressive innings from Marnus Labuschagne, who has shown more gears than we were maybe expecting.

Marnus Labuschagne soaked up some pressure early on. It took him 22 balls to get to 14 but he managed to get through it and then created the position to play bigger shots.

  7. Aus 266-3published at 39 overs

    Target 316

Reece Topley is probably still in England's best ODI XI. He's missing today because of illness.

I wonder if John Turner will get a game at Leeds on Saturday. It has been straight-forward for Australia, really.

  8. 50 runs

50 for Marnus Labuschagnepublished at 38.4 overs

There's polite applause as Marnus Labuschagne reaches his fifty in 42 balls.

England need wickets now and desperately. It's the only way they can stop this Australia momentum.

  10. Aus 263-3published at 38 overs

Need 53 runs from 74 balls

The runs are just coming at will. Travis Head doesn't get anywhere near middling this one but he drags the ball fine for a boundary.

Alastair Cook is bemoaning the lack of wicket-taking threat from England today. I'm not sure what the solution is to that.

It could be a dangerous thing if Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith start hitting bombs as well as accumulating.

  12. Aus 251-3published at 37 overs

Need 65 runs from 78 balls

And a four on the sweep to Labuschagne.

They're not world champions for nothing.

Australia are cantering towards this total. A brilliant shot. It's not all on Travis Head.

  14. 6 runs

    Aus 246-3published at 36.4 overs

Are they golf courses still open? Marnus Labuschagne wants to finish this quickly.

  15. 6 runs

    Aus 240-3published at 36.2 overs

Marnus Labuschagne has that trademark smirk on his face after pumping Liam Livingstone into the stands.

Australia are doing this with ease.

  16. How's stat?!published at 19:00 British Summer Time 19 September

Travis Head averages 78 in nine ODIs in England. Imperious.

  17. Aus 233-3published at 36 overs

Need 83 runs from 84 balls

Australia did not bowl one over of pace from this point but Harry Brook is still happy to use his quick bowlers. I wonder if the dew has come down, thus stopping the ball gripping and turning. The way Phil Salt has just slid across the outfield suggests so.

Brydon Carse's hands go on his head as Marnus Labuschagne cleverly guides a boundary through where a slip would have been standing.

The worm suggests these two are neck and neck, but England lost wickets and momentum at the back end. Sometimes, even worms lie.

    Worm
  19. Aus 225-3published at 35 overs

Need 91 runs from 90 balls

England were mid-collapse at this stage but, while they left the need to press on the accelerator, Australia know they don't have to do anything silly.

Marnus continues to chew on his gum and lean on his bat after nudging the score on.

You expect teams to accelerate at this point in an ODI but Australia do not need to. They can pick these off at will if they want.
