What on earth is going on at Notts? Hameed has won the toss for the last two matches, including the current one, elected to field both times. Then Surrey racked up 550 & Essex 450 in their first innings. Notts scraped a draw against Surrey and are staring down the barrel now against Essex! Bowlers and batters both need to take a critical look at themselves… as does the captain! Exasperated season ticket holder, currently sweltering in Tenerife.

    Middlesex 377 & 16-0 v Gloucs 309-9 dec

Shot! Sam Robson gets a bit of width from Tom Price and goes back and across to swipe the ball neatly through cover for four.

Price tightens his line and gets an edge out of the Middlesex opener but the ball bounces in front of second slip.

Another edge but this one is wide of third slip and through for four.

An eventful start to the innings.

Rain stops playpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 11 September

    Leicestershire 98 & 126-3 v Yorkshire 379

    A bit more rain.

We won't be off for long, promise!

In fact, the Yorkshire players aren't rushing off at all, as the two batters sprint off.

  4. wicket

WICKET Davies b Brookes 65published at 14:29 British Summer Time 11 September

    Worcestershire 307, Warwickshire 128 & 120-2

    Big wicket for Worcestershire.

Warwickshire skipper Alex Davies is finally out for 65, having completed his second half-century of the match.

And in almost exactly the same manner as he was out in the first innings - played on to his former Bears team-mate Ethan Brookes.

Looking to steer on the off side, the 36-over-old Kookaburra cannoned into his middle stump.

Davies and Will Rhodes, who remains on 44, had put on 115 together - the biggest stand of the match. But, following on, the Bears stil trail by 59 as Sam Hain comes to the crease.

  5. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 11 September

    Leicestershire 98 & 118-3 v Yorkshire 379

Woosh, what a shot that is!

Rehan Ahmed picks up on length from Ben Coad and bashes it for six over long on. This boy can't half hit a cricket ball!

Not to be outdone, Ajinkya Rahane flicks off his toes for four three balls later.

Leicestershire are comfortable at the moment, end if they are miles away from saving this match.

  6. Play resumes at Riversidepublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 0-0

Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings and his opening partner Luke Wells have a mountain to climb.

    A 345-run mountain.

Ben Raine will bowl the first ball of the innings to Wells.

  7. Middlesex begin their second inningspublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 11 September

    Middlesex 377 & 0-0 v Gloucs 309-9 dec

Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman are in the middle perhaps a little later than they might have imagined given their team's excellent start to the day's play.

    Stoneman will face Tom Price.

Five five-fers for Roland-Jones in his last five games. More than anyone else in England this year.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Colin Ingrampublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 85-2

Another lovely stroke as Colin Ingram cuts Ollie Robinson square through point for his ninth four.

It also brings up a fine fifty off just 70 balls. The 36th time he's reached the landmark with the red ball.

Durham 573-9d, lead Lancs by 345

In 2021 David Bedingham became the first Durham player to make 300 runs in a game. That was in a draw against Derbyshire in Chester-le-Street.

Today he was threatening to do that in one innings against Lancashire, but was out on 279. It is the highest score by a Durham player. It beats Martin Love's 273 in a win against Hants in 2003.

Durham could have declared earlier but I think they were waiting to see if Bedingham could reach the 300 and when he didn't they came off.

He also put on 425 for the fifth wicket with Colin Ackermann, who was eventually out for 186. That was the highest total for any wicket by Durham and the second highest stand in the County Championship for a fifth wicket.

Ironically that title is held by Colin Ackermann, who put on 477* with Wiaan Mulder at Hove in 2022.

The pitch has flattened out, but can Durham bowl a team out twice, with a Kookaburra ball, for the first time?

  11. wicket

WICKET McCann lbw Harmer 4published at 14:24 British Summer Time 11 September

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 49-2

What a miserable day for Nottinghamshire.

And quite the opposite for Essex and Simon Harmer, who grabs his sixth wicket of the day and second this innings as his turn bewilders Freddie McCann.

The ball strikes the pads and a loud appeal is given.

  12. Postpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 11 September

    Kent 191-9 v Hampshire 403

Jas Singh is enjoying facing Liam Dawson.

One club over mid on and a bushy drive takes him to 12.

Now is the time to do this for Kent, the new ball is due in three overs time.

  13. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 11 September

    Somerset 317 & 23-2 v Surrey 321

Dan Worrall swaps ends and replaces Kemar Roach in the attack.

Tom Abell plays the first ball with soft hands and edges it low past the sole slip down to the third man boundary.

Then, not so good, but he gets away with a flash outside off stump.

  14. Postpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 11 September

    Leicestershire 98 & 106-3 v Yorkshire 379

Leicestershire's biggest danger of losing a wicket is Rehan Ahmed.

Most of the time he is sensible and plays the ball on its merits, but occasionally Rehan premeditates a big shot.

Against Ben Coad, it works with a flashy cut, but doesn't when he skips down the track and misses a ball that barely misses the stumps.

50 stand up with Ajinkya Rahane.

  15. Postpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 11 September

    Somerset 317 & 18-2 v Surrey 321

With Kemar Roach bowling tightly at one end and Shakib Al Hasan causing plenty of problems at the other. Somerset are a bit stuck.

The Surrey attack can buy Tom Curran a few sharpeners later for creating this pressure.

His swashbuckling 86 turned the first innings on its head.

Tom Lammonby takes a single off the first ball of Al Hasan's third over, and fellow Tom Abell bookends it with one more.

    The lead is 14.

  16. wicket

WICKET Bedingham c Phillip b Wells 279published at 14:18 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288

David Bedingham swats Luke Wells into the leg side but he hasn't got that out of the middle and Anderson Phillip takes the catch in the deep.

Luke Wells finishes with 4-69 but the applause is reserved for Bedingham, who walks off as the new record holder for the highest score made by any Durham player in first class cricket.

Durham declare with a lead of 345.

  17. Postpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 11 September

    Leicestershire 98 & 102-3 v Yorkshire 379

Ajinkya Rahane drives handsomely down the ground for a boundary.

It hasn't been overly testing since the resumption, certainly less movement for the likes of Matt Fisher and Ben Coad.

Yorkshire will have to graft hard to find the seven wickets they need.

  18. wicket

WICKET Potts LBW b Hartley 4published at 14:15 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 571-8 v Lancs 228

Matt Potts is pinned in front by Tom Hartley, who has a wicket after a torrid stint of bowling overall, costing 136 runs.

    Callum Parkinson is in next.

Thanks for the great coverage of the county game. It is an exciting round at the top, with Hampshire doing well plus Somerset and Surrey close.

You're very welcome, Dave - we're enjoying covering it as much as you are reading it. Great day of cricket around the country

  20. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 70-2

Colin Ingram drives Henry Crocombe beautifully through extra cover and point for a sweet, sweet boundary.

The South African moves on to 40, taken off 64 balls.

Glamorgan are going to need plenty more like that.
