Summary

  1. Postpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 11 September

    Kent 207 & 18-0 v Hampshire 403

A first sniff of a wicket for Hampshire after making Kent follow-on.

Ben Compton loops a leading edge back towards the bowler Kyle Abbott.

It is tantalisingly close to Abbott but half a foot too far away from his outstretched hand.

Otherwise this has been a very mature start from Kent. A loss this week alone wouldn't take them down but they would be on the precipice.

  2. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 11 September

    Somerset 317 & 85-5 v Surrey 321

Jordan Clark sends down a huge in-ducker which beats Lewis Gregory and flicks off his pad for four leg byes.

The Somerset skipper probably isn't too upset to see rain sweep across the ground.

A bit of respite for the hosts and a chance to regroup after a torrid session in which they've lost five wickets and hold a slender 81-run lead.

  3. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 35-1

Bas de Leede is on at the Lumley End.

He appears to lose his run up at one point and goes through the crease without delivering the ball.

    Dead ball then.

A nervous moment for Josh Bohannon, who edges the ball in front of keeper Ollie Robinson.

  4. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 11 September

    Northants 219 & 211 v Derbys 165 & 20-1 (target: 266)

No play in the afternoon session.

But the good news is that the sun is shining down on the east midlands and quite a few of the covers have been dragged away.

Fingers crossed there will be some action in the evening, as this match is well-placed.

  5. wicket

    WICKET Ingram c Hudson-Prentice b Carson 71published at 15:13 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 128-3

Sussex move another step closer to an emphatic win.

Colin Ingram has played some lovely strokes, but his 101-ball knock of 71 comes to an end.

He comes down the track to Carson but top edges it high into the Hove sky and Fynn Hudson-Prentice takes a steepling catch.

Glamorgan 177 behind and Sam Northeast joins Kiran Carlson.

    Breaking

    Some breaking news for you.

Gloucestershire will not be charged by the England and Wales Cricket Board following the abandonment of their County Championship match against Northamptonshire last month.

Umpires Chris Watts and Sue Redfern stopped play on safety grounds in the final session of the opening day after visiting batsmen Ricardo Vasconcelos and Rob Keogh retired hurt after being struck on the hand by Gloucestershire paceman Ajeet Singh Dale.

Northants were 116-2 in reply to the home side's 125 when the contest was suspended and later abandoned after discussions with match referee Jason Swift and ECB pitch inspectors at Lord’s.

The ECB’s independent regulator announced on Wednesday it was "satisfied that Gloucestershire have demonstrated that they sought to prepare the best quality pitch that they could".

  7. Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 33-1

Two slips in for Ben Raine and Josh Bohannon is forward, defending down the ground.

Good view of the bat maker's name there.

Just the one run off that over.

Luke Wells is in the crease, pushing Matt Potts into cover but there's no run.

    Maiden over.

  8. wicket

WICKET Lammonby lbw b Clark 24published at 15:09 British Summer Time 11 September

    Somerset 317 & 75-5 v Surrey 321

    That's that!

Just as Somerset begin to have a little platform, Surrey knock it straight down.

Jordan Clark gets one to nip back and pins Tom Lammonby in front. It kept a little low, but the Somerset batter has to go for a well-made 24.

With Tom Banton unlikely to bat, Somerset are effectively 71-6.

Skipper Lewis Gregory comes to the crease with work to do.

  9. Postpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 11 September

    Somerset 317 & 75-4 v Surrey 321

Tom Lammonby looks to have found his rhythm.

He sends an immaculate drive through the covers off Shakib Al Hasan. Lovely stuff.

Another handsome Lammonby drive in the next over, of Jordan Clark, is denied a boundary by a good stop on the rope from Cam Steel. Three from it.

James Rew then opens the face to Clark's next ball and guides it down to the boundary in front of the Colin Atkinson Pavilion.

  10. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 11 September

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 98-2

A welcome sight for Notts, not so for Essex.

The dark clouds at Chelmsford have yielded rain and the players are heading off.

  11. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 117-2

Colin Ingram's 11th boundary of an impressive knock brings up the 50 partnership for Glamorgan's third wicket, made off 79 balls.

His partner Kiran Carlson gets in on the act next over as he comes down the wicket to Jack Carson and carts the spinner's second ball back over his head for six.

    Middlesex 377 & 39-1 v Gloucs 309-9 dec

Weather permitting, we'll be back on at 1520 BST.

  13. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 32-1

    Maiden over from Ben Raine.

Luke Wells had a nasty one there that kept low on a length but he kept it out.

Matt Potts is full just outside off stump and Josh Bohannon is forward to drive.

The ball beats Bas de Leede to the cover boundary for four.

Four more driven through cover point.

  14. wicket

WICKET Kimber lbw Hill 8published at 15:02 British Summer Time 11 September

    Leicestershire 98 & 146-5 v Yorkshire 379

    Yorkshire are taking wickets now.

Louis Kimber has to go after George Hill smashes into this pads.

The BBC commentators initially think height might have saved Kimber. Who is this lowly writer to disagree (although the opinion of this blog is that that was plumb!)

  15. Postpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 11 September

    Kent 207 & 10-0 v Hampshire 403

Tawanda Muyeye tucks Mo Abbas' first delivery of the follow-on to the boundary.

A driven four follows to the last ball of the over.

Based on how easy George Garrett and Jas Singh made things look, Kent should save this match...but anyone who thinks it is as simple as that hasn't watched Kent bat this year.

  16. Hameed survives appealpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 11 September

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 90-2

Simon Harmer thinks he's got Haseeb Hameed caught at short leg but the umpire rules the contact was with pad, not bat.

  17. 100 runs

100 up for Glamorganpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 103-2

    You can't bowl there.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice sends down a half-volley very wide of off stump and Colin Ingram smacks it through the covers for his 10th four.

the stroke brings up three figures for the Welsh side. They need 202 more to make Sussex bat again.

  18. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Lord'spublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 11 September

    Middlesex 377 & 39-1 v Gloucs 309-9 dec

The rain-bearing clouds had been hovering over St John's Wood for a while so this is not a surprise.

There's still plenty of blue sky overhead though.

Hopefully just a small passing shower.

Surely it's got to be Chris Broad and Stuart Broad, I just can't believe I haven't seen them mentioned yet. Both loved a battle with the Aussies. Both were feisty characters too!

  20. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 24-1

Matt Potts appeals for LBW as Josh Bohannon misses an attempted scoop to mid wicket.

Not out. It looked a tad high.

Two runs glance to fine leg and the last ball is defended to point.
