    Leicestershire 98 & 35-2 v Yorkshire 379

Ben Coad tests Ajinkya Rahane with a couple of tight deliveries.

Yorkshire are aiming for eight wickets to secure a win that would go a long way to getting them back into Division One.

How long can Leicestershire hold out?

  3. Under way at Tauntonpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 11 September

    Somerset 317 v Surrey 169-3

Both sides have been made to work hard for their runs and wickets and you’d expect nothing less in such a pivotal match.

Somerset will need to make early inroads while Surrey will be happy to keep steadily building, ticking off the overs. A draw would suit them way more than their hosts.

Ryan Patel takes first ball of the day resuming the fourth-wicket stand of 41 with Ben Foakes as Craig Overton runs in.

    Kent 64-5 v Hampshire 403

The Kent rearguard starts here...or so they hope.

Ben Compton will have to fall into his happy place of defending today. He begins with a staunch block to deny Mo Abbas.

    Hampshire want 15 wickets.

  5. Play starts at Hovepublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 407-5 v Glamorgan 186

I guess it’s just a matter of how big a first innings lead the Division Two leaders want before Glamorgan have their second knock.

Sussex resume with a huge 221-run lead with five wickets still in the bank.

Their position has been built on the shoulders of John Simpson (112 not out) and Tom Clark who need six more runs this morning to take their partnership to 200.

Simpson takes guard as Ned Leonard runs in.

  6. Day Three Begins at Riversidepublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 367-4 v Lancs 228

The hosts are in complete control of this match after dismissing the Red Rose for 228, then recovering from a precarious 99-4 in their own innings.

The sun is shining but it's very much a chilly hands in pockets day. Tough shift for the fielders!

Since then David Bedingham (177) and Colin Ackermann (111) have put on an unbroken stand of 268.

That's a club record for the fifth wicket.

David Bedingham will take guard first, facing tom Bailey.

    Middlesex 377 v Gloucs 154-5

The visitors remain in a tricky position on a wicket offering a bit of movement but they still have hope of getting close to parity with Ollie Price at the crease.

He resumes on 56 not out - his fifth half century of the season and he'll be on strike first to face Tom Helm, who has two balls left in the 42nd over cut short by bad light and rain.

His brother Tom Price is at the non striker's end on 12.

Two places in Division One are up for grabs and so far in this round, Sussex and Yorkshire will put themselves in pole position to take them.

Sussex are on the hunt for an innings victory over Glamorgan. They currently have a 221 run lead thanks to John Simpson's fifth hundred of the season - which also took him past 1,000 Championship runs in 2024. With all but one bonus point secured, they are looking at a 23-point haul if they can muster victory.

Yorkshire are eight wickets from their own innings win over Leicestershire. Jonny Tattersall's ton gave them a 281 run first innings lead, before Matt Fisher's two wickets left the Foxes 35-2.

That leaves Middlesex, who began the week a point ahead of Yorkshire, as the likely losers from this round of fixtures. The weather, and Gloucestershire's Price brothers, have frustrated them at Lord's. They still have a 223 run lead but time is running out to get into a winning position.

  11. How they stand - Division Onepublished at 10:22 British Summer Time 11 September

Tuesday's rain has strengthened Surrey's position at the top of Division Two - not that they were in massive trouble at Somerset anyway, having amassed 169-3.

But a draw between the top two could open the door for a challenge from Hampshire or Essex, who are both in strong positions in their respective games heading into day three.

  12. Relegation-threatened Lancs losing ground to Nottspublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 367-4 v Lancs 228

With Kent all but certain to go down to Division Two all eyes are on the second relegation spot, currently occupied by Lancashire.

The Red Rose began this round just 10 points behind Notts, but that gap has already risen after Notts picked up two bowling points against Essex at Chelmsford, while Lancashire fell short of a batting point at Chester-le-Street.

Notts can stretch that lead even further today.

They begin Day Three on a first innings 37-1 after dismissing Essex for 457.

Ryan Patel led a solid Surrey batting effort to defy nearest challengers Somerset on the second day of the top-of-the-table County Championship First Division clash at Taunton.

The 26-year-old all-rounder was unbeaten on 61 in a first innings total of 169-3 when rain ended play for the day at 15:00 BST, with a minimum of 26 overs remaining.

Ben Geddes made 50, while all three wickets fell to 18-year-old off-spinner Archie Vaughan.

Surrey trailed by 148, but with seven wickets in hand will be confident of at least getting close to Somerset’s first innings total of 317, knowing that a draw will be sufficient to make them red hot title favourites with only two more games to play.
