    Somerset 317 & 132-8 v Surrey 321

Jack Leach flicks Dan Worrall away for a single to get off the mark to his 12th ball and keep the strike.

Suddenly a scoring flurry as he pushes Shakib Al Hasan's first ball for a second single.

Craig Overton gets down on one knee and sweeps Shakib for four, and then rocks back and hits into the onside for another single.

Six from the over - the lead is 128.

More on that points deduction story then...

Essex have been docked 12 points by the Cricket Discipline Commission after one of their players used an oversized bat this season, all-but ending their hopes of winning the County Championship.

Feroze Khushi's bat failed an on-field dimensions check during his second innings of April's match at Nottinghamshire which Essex won by 254 runs.

Essex took 20 points from the game but have now lost 12 of those due to Khushi's bat being wider than permitted.

The points deduction leaves Essex 56 points behind Division One leaders Surrey, with two more matches remaining after the current round of games.

  4. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 91-3

Four runs to Josh Bohannon with a lovely late cut through backward point off the bowling of Ben Raine.

    20 overs left tonight.

Colin Ackermann is in the attack from the Finchale End, replacing Callum Parkinson.

He's had a pretty good game already, of course.

Just a couple of singles off that over.

  5. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 195-6

New batter Dan Douthwaite gets off the mark with a four as he turns a legside Jack Carson delivery down to the fine leg boundary.

Glamorgan are 110 runs behind. The only issue now seems the margin of victory for Sussex and whether the visitors can avoid an innings defeat.

  6. Postpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 11 September

    Middlesex 377 & 81-1 v Gloucs 309-9 dec

Middlesex will no doubt be well aware of Yorkshire's triumph at Grace Road today as they tussle with the Tykes for promotion to Division One.

They're scoring at a very healthy rate here and piling the pressure on Gloucestershire thanks in the main to Sam Robson, who has 40 of those innings runs.

Ajeet Singh Dale bowls a very, very short ball and is no-balled.

Robson moves to 44 with a swivel pull through mid wicket for four.

A leg bye is conceded off the next ball and Max Holden plunders four more with a punch through cover point.

He spears one into Zak Chappell's pads and he has to Chappell Go-an (one for the kids!)

    Three wickets to go.

  9. Postpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 11 September

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 112-2

Haseeb Hameed and Joe Clarke providing some much-needed resistance for Nottinghamshire with a partnership of 73 and counting.

Hameed playing a captain's innings, unbeaten on 71, to frustrate the hosts, who have taken wickets at will today. This is by far Notts' best stand of the day.

And that's not the only bad news for Essex...

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 191-6

Two wickets in as many overs for Jack Carson.

Glamorgan top scorer Kiran Carlson prods forward looking to turn it into the legside but it pops up off a top edge to Tom Alsop at short leg which takes a good catch.

A nice 97-ball innings comes to an end.

    Four to go for Sussex.

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 81-3

    Northants 219 & 211 v Derbys 165 & 93-6 (target: 266)

Former chess whizz Yuzvendra Chahal has Derbyshire in check here.

Zak Chappell doesn't have a clue how to play him and prods to James Sales at short mid off.

It goes quick, and we know it is never easy under the grill, but you want to catch those.

  15. wicket

WICKET Kellaway lbw b Carson 30published at 16:44 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 188-5

Glamorgan will be really cursing that rain delay as they lose Ben Kellaway four balls after the resumption.

Kellaway tries a reverse sweep but misses and Jack Carson hits him shin-high on the front pad. Easy decision for the umpire.

Chris Cooke joins Kiran Carlson with Glamorgan still 117 runs away from making the hosts bat a second time.

  16. Play resumes at Hovepublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 11 September

    Sussex 491 v Glamorgan 186 & 188-4

Well that was brief. Barely worth writing a rain stops play post!

The players are back on the field around 10 minutes are going off and Jack Carson resumes.

We still have 30 overs to squeeze in, but it is England in September so the light may have something to say about that.

  17. Postpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 11 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 288 & 81-3

Josh Bohannon drives Callum Parkinson to mid off for a single.

Northants are heading to a first Championship win of the year.

  19. Postpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 11 September

    Middlesex 377 & 50-1 v Gloucs 309-9 dec

25 overs in theory remain after this one but there are still a few pesky dark clouds around St John's Wood.

The last ball of the over is leg side and clipped away by Robson for three.

Ajeet Singh Dale will bowl unchanged from the Pavilion End after a multitude of delays for rain and bad light.

Sam Robson clips the first ball away through mid wicket and that four takes Middlesex to 50 in 9.1 overs.
