  1. Division Two updatepublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 23 May

Caleb Jewell is closing in on a sixth half-century for Derbyshire - he is 47 not out in their 121-1 in the 34th over against Kent.

Middlesex continue to keep Glamorgan tied down at Sophia Gardens but have not yet managed a breakthrough since lunch - the Welsh county are 77-3 in the 31st.

Leicestershire have a second Lancashire wicket with Luke Wells caught behind off Logan van Beek for 36 - they are 80-2 in the 34th.

Northants are 82-4 in the 32nd against Gloucestershire, with James Sales 21 not out and Saif Zaib on 10.

  2. Postpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 23 May

    Yorks v Notts 81-2

Batting has not been easy at Headingley so far but you wonder whether Yorkshire might grit teeth later on in this piece that they did not take more wickets when the ball was misbehaving.

Ben Slater and Joe Clarke are not exactly trapping along at 81-2 but Ben Coad has gone for nine in that over and his frustration shows at the end of it.

With the ball approaching 34 overs old batting should be easier in this middle session.

  3. Postpublished at 31 overs

    Surrey v Essex 108-4

It might be what Bazball devotees want but that was a very risky shot by Michael Pepper.

He throws the lot at a wide one from Tom Lawes without getting his foot anywhere near the pitch of the ball and is fortunate that he doesn't get a nick.

  4. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 105-4 v Somerset

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It was exactly this week last year when Somerset were bowled out up here for 88 (not their lowest total v Durham - that is 56 in 2003 - lowest Championship score by any team against Durham) in the second innings and came back home with their tails between their legs.

    Bedingham lbw b Pretorius 17 (Durham 105-4 v Somerset)

Migael Pretorius strikes with the final ball of the over. What an eventful over.

After watching Ollie Robinson takes two fours in contrasting fashion from the non-striker's end David Bedingham is out to his first delivery of the afternoon.

It's a bit of a floating full one from Pretorious which Bedingham tries to help on its way down to fine leg.

But the South Africa batter misses and it hits his foot in front of the base of leg stump.

100 up for Durhampublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 104-3 v Somerset

Durham bring up their ton with the first ball after lunch as Ollie Robinson edges Migael Pretorius all along the ground to deep third.

He's then driving the third ball down into the ground and over the bowler's outstretched right hand off for another four through mid-off.

  7. Postpublished at 30 overs

    Surrey v Essex 108-4

First boundary of the afternoon as Matt Critchley eases Jordan Clark away to the short boundary.

He is seven not out and Tom Lawes will bowl from the other end.

  8. Postpublished at 29.1 overs

    Surrey v Essex 103-4

One of the hallmarks of Surrey's three successive title wins has been their ruthlessness when they have an opponent on the back foot.

This could be a crucial session coming up as Essex look to rebuild their first innings, having slumped from 88-1 to 95-4.

Michael Pepper takes strike to Jordan Clark to start things off.

  9. Hard work for Somerset seamerspublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 96-3 v Somerset - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Matt Henry flattening Alex Lees' off stump with the very first ball of the day hasn't proved to be a completely false dawn for Somerset, as they've picked up two more wickets during the morning session, but any suggestion that this strong Durham batting line up would prove to be easy meat for Henry and co has been well and truly dispelled.

A well-grassed pitch has offered occasional bounce and seam movement but this looks to have been a good toss for Durham to have won.

More hard work lies in store for the Somerset seam quartet.

  10. Davies reaction 'could land him in trouble'published at 13:35 British Summer Time 23 May

    Worcestershire v Warwickshire 65-2 - lunch

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

It’s been hard work for Warwickshire since Alex Davies opted to bat first on a lively pitch.

The normally aggressive Davies along with New Zealand test batter Tom Latham battled for 18 overs adding 47 runs.

Latham has adopted the leave repeatedly and Davies showed his discontent when given out lbw. Whether that was about the decision or the pitch wasn’t clear but his reaction could land him in trouble with the umpires.

Sam Hain, who’s trying to work his way back into form, has taken a blow to the elbow but his survival until lunch means the Bears went into the interval only two wickets down, something they’re likely to be happy about.

  12. 'Torrid session' for Glamorganpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 23 May

    Glamorgan 71-3 v Middlesex - lunch

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

A torrid first session for Glamorgan as Middlesex took full advantage of winning the toss with Marnus Labuschagne among those back in the pavilion, caught at slip off Ryan Higgins for 23, after a troubled knock.

Toby Roland-Jones took the initiative on a fairly grassy wicket as he had Zain Ul Hassan caught behind for 11 and Asa Tribe caught at slip for 12 in a typically threatening spell on a ground where he has often done well.

South African Dane Paterson had Labuschagne in early trouble in a rehearsal of a potential World Test Championship final battle, beating him several times as he got off the mark with an edged four and conceding just nine runs in seven overs.

With Labuschagne departing and Sam Northeast beaten regularly, Glamorgan were grateful to get to lunch without further damage.

They are fielding Australia left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann for a one-off appearance ahead of that Test final, with Sri Lankan paceman Asitha Fernando departing just as he seemed to be hitting his stride.

  13. Sussex 'have done a good job' so farpublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 23 May

    Hampshire 93-4 v Sussex - lunch

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Sussex will be pleased with their morning's work.

On a green pitch with bare ends, the ball has done a little bit but the wicket seems a little two paced.

Only Fletcha Middleton (34) looked comfortable out there.

Sussex, with no Ollie Robinson and with Henry Crocombe playing his first game of the season, and Ari Karvelas only his second, have done a good job.

  15. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 23 May

    Leics v Lancs 77-1

It has been Lancashire's morning after being put in by their hosts and even allowing for the strong position they might feel it could have been better still.

Keaton Jennings's stare up the pitch after being given out lbw to Logan van Beek was borderline acceptable but he made his point on a delivery that was nipping back sharply.

For the record it looked a decent shout and, aside from Jennings' mood, it is Lancashire who will be happier dressing room after being asked to tackle the pitch first.

Youngster Archie Bailey has been the pick of the Gloucestershire attack as they lunch in good spirits against the struggling home side.

The 19-year-old has taken 2-19 off his six overs as Northants' batters were unable to get going after winning the toss.

Luke Procter, the only batter to average over 40 for Northants so far this season, is the current top scorer after making 20 before Bailey got him lbw.

Northants need a strong start to the afternoon as they try to avoid failing to register a batting point for the fourth match in a row.

Jordan Thompson celebrates the wicket of Freddie McCann

The wicket of Freddie McCann just before lunch put a layer of gloss on a decent Yorkshire bowling display which did not really get its due reward in the first session.

Jack White made things very uncomfortable for Ben Slater early on after Haseeb Hameed was well caught at point by James Wharton with the left hander dropped when Notts were 17-1.

But McCann and Slater consolidated well and, but for the former's exit just before lunch, that was threatening to be the visitor's session.

Probably honours about even on a pitch that is offering plenty and quite possibly judged on the number of missed edges, almost too much.

  18. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 23 May

    Warwickshire 65-2 v Worcestershire

An attritional morning by the River Severn with Worcestershire coming off feeling like they should've had a couple more wickets.

After Rob Yates went to the first ball of Tom Taylor's opening over, skipper Alex Davies and New Zealand Test captain Tom Latham out on 47 before Davies was, unhappily, pinned lbw by Matthew Waite for 21.

Latham has had a running battle with Ben Allison, who might have picked him up twice, but has scrapped through to the break unbeaten on 28.

Sam Hain has carried on the diligence, making nine off 33 balls.

  19. Lunch at Southamptonpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 23 May

    Hants 93-4 v Sussex

The hosts will breathe a sigh of relief given no further damage in the final six overs before lunch with Nick Gubbins the fourth wicket to fall in the 23rd over.

But having elected to bat first there is no getting away from the fact this was a poor first session for Ben Brown's side.

Sussex bowled well with Nathan McAndrew setting the tone with the wicket of the out of form Mark Stoneman. Fynn Hudson-Prentice, Ari Karvelas and Jack Carson all chipped in.

Since coming in to bat on his 200th appearance for Hampshire Liam Dawson has looked assured and, with the sun still shining in Southampton, he will look to rebuild with his skipper after lunch when the ball is softer.

    Glamorgan 71-3 v Middlesex

Skipper Sam Northeast gets away with a streaky boundary to third man a couple of overs before lunch in Cardiff.

The home side have found themselves pinned down by accurate Middlesex bowling, with the pitch offering help to the seamers.

Toby Roland-Jones took the first two wickets to fall but the key wicket of Marnus Labuschane fell to Ryan Higgins, caught at second slip for 23.
