  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 20.3 overs

    Labuschagne c du Plooy b Higgins 23 (Glamorgan 52-3 v Middlesex)

Having made 0 and 4 against Northants last week, Marnus Labuschagne would have liked to get some runs under his belt before the World Test Championship final.

A big score eludes him today as Ryan Higgins produces an absolute beauty which the Australian can only edge to second slip, where Leus du Plooy takes his second good catch of the morning.

Middlesex on top at Sophia Gardens.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 23 May

    Prest c Clark b Karvelas 18 (Hants 70-3 v Sussex)

    Another breakthrough for Sussex.

Ari Karvelas gets one to bounce and shape in at Tom Prest who attempts to steer it through point, gets a bit tucked up and steers it helpfully to second slip.

Tom Clark takes a second catch of the morning.

  3. McKinney setback for Durhampublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 75-2 v Somerset

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham got off to the worst of starts when Alex Lees was bowled by the first ball of the game. He got a thick inside edge to Matt Henry and lost his off stump.

Ben McKinney and Emilio Gay then set about rescuing the situation and put on 65 before McKinney was out. He got another inside edge to a Josh Davey delivery and was caught behind on 30.

That has brought David Bedingham out to the middle, for the first time since the second week of the season, when he broke a toe playing against Warwickshire.

  4. 'A top order batter should not really be getting out to that.'published at 12:31 British Summer Time 23 May

    Surrey v Essex 88-3

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC London

I would accept you (Don Topley) as a tailender getting out to that.

But a top order batter should not really be getting out to that, but Surrey will take it they are delighted.

It is good bowling, but too wide to get a good batter out.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.2 overs

    Allison c Foakes b Smith 0 (Surrey v Essex 88-3)

The tables are turning at The Oval.

Charlie Allison is caught in two minds about whether to play or leave - and deflects the ball through to keeper Ben Foakes.

He is replaced at the crease by Matt Critchley.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 23 May

    Davies lbw b Waite 21 (Warwickshire 52-2 v Worcestershire)

    Stone dead.

Alex Davies isn't happy but it looks pretty straight as Pears man of the moment Matthew Waite picks up his first wicket.

Davies gestures to the umpire as the finger goes up, suggesting he thinks it might be high. Looks like it hit him above the knee roll but seems to the taking the top of middle.

Gritty stand with Tom Lathan ends on 47.

  7. Postpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 23 May

    Glamorgan 50-2 v Middlesex

It's taken some time, but Glamorgan reach 50 as Sam Northeast pushes Ryan Higgins into the covers for a single.

Northeast has four from 26 balls faced - with Marnus Labuschagne 23 not out at the other end.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 23 May

Procter lbw Bailey 20 (Northamptonshire 41-3 v Gloucestershire)

Northants lose their second wicket in the space of nine balls as captain Luke Procter is pretty plumb to Gus Miller from round the wicket.

Played across it a touch and it's hitting all three.

  9. Postpublished at 20 overs

    Surrey v Essex 88-2

Charlie Allison has been playing as an opener for Essex so far this season. Now he has to adjust being at four in the order.

Maybe he's relieved at not having been out there at the start on such a seemingly bowler-friendly surface.

You do wonder, though, why Surrey thought they needed six seamers in this game. Jamie Overton and Tom Lawes haven't had a single over yet.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 23 May

    McKinney c Rew b Davey 30 (Durham 65-2 v Somerset)

    Relief at last for Somerset.

After grafting so well, it's a bit of a nothing shot from Ben McKinney, who seems caught in several minds over what to do with the ball from Josh Davey that angles into him.

The left hander rather drops the bat on it as it grazes the inside edge through to James Rew who gathers well just above the turf.

An excellent, restorative stand of 65 ends.

  11. 'Clark one of just two in this line-up to not play international cricket'published at 12:21 British Summer Time 23 May

    Surrey v Essex 86-2

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

We all know that Westley favours that on side, but he is reminding himself to play straight and leave well outside off stump.

We were just saying how pleased Essex would be to lose just one wicket so far, and it's the man who is an unsung hero here at the Oval, Jordan Clark.

He's one of those unglamorous cricketers and one of two in this line-up to not play international cricket

  12. 50 runs

50 for Bears at New Roadpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 23 May

    Warwickshire 51-1 v Worcestershire

It's fair to say Alex Davies and Tom Latham have ridden their luck a touch this morning so far but the main thing for the Bears is they are still in.

After flashing a drive, which would've gone straight to third slip if there had been one, for four to get the Bears to the cusp of 50, Davies takes a single to bring it up.

If they can navigate the remaining 40 minutes or so until lunch, skipper Davies will be well happy.

    Yorks v Notts 46-1

    Notts opener Ben Slater

Umpire Paul Baldwin felt compelled to walk up and have a word with Yorkshire wicketkeeper Harry Duke presumably for a bit of excess chat as Notts batsmen dig in here.

Freddie McCann and Ben Slater have certainly been taking things steadily which could well have been the gist of Duke's observation... only in slightly different words one suspects.

Slater now obliges by crunching George Hill for four through the gully area.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.3 overs

    Walter c Foakes b Clark 38 (Surrey v Essex 88-2)

    Jordan ClarkImage source, Getty Images

    Big wicket for Surrey.

Jordan Clark finds just a touch of movement and Paul Walter's good innings is over.

The best wicketkeeper in England doesn't drop catches like that.

  15. Postpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 23 May

In case you haven't heard, England declared on 565-6 in the Test match at Trent Bridge.

Sam Cook is opening the bowling as Zimbabwe begin their reply - a proud moment for Essex followers, who may feel his opportunity is long overdue.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 23 May

    Miller c Bancroft b Bailey 9 (Northamptonshire 40-2 v Gloucestershire)

    Archie Bailey makes the breakthrough.

Not a great shot from Gus Miller tbf.

A touch of away movement from Bailey and Miller gets the booming drive out and nicks straight to Cameron Bancroft at second slip who makes no mistake.

  17. Postpublished at 17.2 overs

    Surrey v Essex 86-1

Considering Paul Walter wasn't an opener prior to this season, he has adjusted to his new role very well.

The left-hander square cuts Jordan Clark for four at the start of the latest over and he is 38 not out.

  18. Postpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 23 May

    Warwickshire 40-1 v Worcestershire

Ben Allison is continuing his personal battle with Tom Latham.

After Latham go his first boundary earlier with a streaky four down to deep third, narrowly avoiding third slip, Allison serves up pretty much a carbon copy.

Another uncontrolled edge from Latham, this time drops just in front of third slip, who can't cut off the four.

Next over Alex Davies picks up his third boundary with a nicely steered four off Matthew Waite down to deep third.

  19. Postpublished at 16.4 overs

    Surrey v Essex 82-1

A little bit of good fortune for Paul Walter.

The returning Dan Worrall digs one in from round the wicket, the left-hander tries to drop his hands but doesn't get them low enough and the ball loops away off glove or handle to leg-slip - and there isn't a fielder there for Surrey.

  20. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 23 May

    Surrey v Essex 81-1

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Westley needs some runs here but is looking good, looking set at the moment.
