  1. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 23 May

    Yorks v Notts 29-1

George Hill is into his second over and produces a beauty to left-hander Ben Slater which squares him up and leaves the pitch but fails to get an edge.

That was unlucky and Yorkshire, while largely keeping the handbrake on league leaders Notts, could do with a second wicket to justify putting their visitors in.

Slater responds to the reprieve by hitting Jordan Thompson in the next over for consecutive fours to release the pressure somewhat.

  2. Division Two updatepublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 23 May

Derbyshire are still going well against Kent - they are 79-0 in the 17th over, with David Lloyd 35 not out and Caleb Jewell on 28.

Glamorgan are trying to rebuild following the loss of their openers against Middlesex. Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Northeast are now together and they are 40-2 in the 15th.

No joy yet for leaders Leicestershire, who have tried four bowlers so far against Lancashire, who are 46-0 after 17 overs

  3. 50 runs

50 on the board for Durhampublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 53-1 v Somerset

Decent fightback this from Durham after losing skipper Alex Lees for a diamond duck.

Ben McKinney and Emilio Gay have crafted their half-century stand with patience and enthusiastic running between the wickets with boundaries at a premium (only four so far).

Gay flashes hard at one from Migael Pretorius and is not very far away from nicking that but a couple of balls later is dropped at mid-wicket by a diving Jack Leach as he flicks one off his pads.

He then turns the next one past Leach (on the ground this time) and then run a couple to bring up the 50.

  4. Postpublished at 15.5 overs

    Surrey v Essex 81-1

Essex have certainly made the most of anything loose that has come their way - a sound tactic on such a green pitch.

Jordan Clark is too full and Tom Westley off-drives elegantly with a high flourish for four runs.

An equally good cover drive follows - the 14th boundary of the morning.

  5. 'Paul Walter has continued to look very good'published at 12:03 British Summer Time 23 May

    Surrey v Essex 68-1

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC London

These last few overs have been a bit tamer after the first eight overs where the ball was flying off the bat.

Surrey have pulled it back quite nicely, but Paul Walter has continued to look very good.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 23 May

    Middleton lbw b Hudson-Prentice 34 (Hants 43-2 v Sussex)

Fletcha Middleton is looking to turn that into the leg side but misses and it is angled initially just enough on middle to get the decision.

A good breakthrough for Sussex given Middleton and Nick Gubbins were going quite nicely after the early loss of Mark Stoneman.

  7. Postpublished at 13.1 overs

    Surrey v Essex 68-1

Jordan Clark is short and wide with the first ball of a new over and Paul Walter flashes it through the vacant gully area for four. He is 31 not out.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 23 May

    Tribe c du Plooy b Roland-Jones 12 (Glamorgan 27.2 v Middlesex)

    Toby Roland-JonesImage source, Rex Features

Similar to the first wicket of the morning, except that Asa Tribe is right-handed and Zain ul-Hassan is a leftie.

Another excellent delivery from TRJ takes the edge and Leus du Plooy swoops low at second slip to take the catch.

Roland-Jones has 2-22 from six overs so far.

  9. dropped catch

Wells dropped on 10published at 11:52 British Summer Time 23 May

    Leics v Lancs 40-0

That has taken a big edge off Luke Wells' bat from the bowling of Josh Hull but has been put down at third slip by Rishi Patel.

The fielder receives some consolation pats on the back but will feel he should have held on to that.

Wells was on 10 at the time but are ticking along nicely here at Grace Road.

  10. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 23 May

    Derbys 58-0 v Kent

Nathan Gilchrist strays outside leg stump and David Lloyd just lifts it for the first maximum of the game at Derby. Timing is perfect. Effortless. The right-hander advances to 32 not out.

  11. Postpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 23 May

    Warwickshire 26-1 v Worcestershire

They all go up at New Road as Ben Allison hits Tom Latham on the front pad.

It looks VERY close. But it looks like Latham as shuffled JUST enough outside the line of off stump.

Later in the over he's at it again and the Pears are convinced Latham has edged one via his pad through to Gareth Roderick.

    Again nothing given.

  12. Postpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 23 May

    Yorks v Notts 12-1

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Runs very tough to come by, wickets look like they could come at any time.

We all know in four-day cricket it is all well and good having pretty deliveries that beat the bat, but if you can stick around through these good deliveries then you can prosper later.

  13. 'Early signs suggest low scoring game'published at 11:46 British Summer Time 23 May

    Worcestershire v Warwickshire 26-1

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

There’s a decent crowd at New Road for what in recent years has been dubbed the Pears v Bears derby.

Early signs suggest, like the last game here, this one could be low scoring.

Certainly Alex Davies appears to be expecting run scoring to require circumspect batting. He’s been more restrained than usual after opting to bat first and seeing his opening partner, Rob Yates, dismissed in the second over.

The good news for Warwickshire is they have Chris Rushworth and Chris Woakes for the first time this season. The home side will hope the experienced pair will take time to get into their stride having not played for some time.

  14. Postpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 23 May

    Hants 32-1 v Sussex

Fletcha Middleton takes a liking to Ari Karvelas, cracking the Sussex seamer for 10 in that over.

The first was not a great ball but still clipped nicely off his legs behind square but the second was altogether more pleasing on the eye, punched through point high on the backfoot.

  15. Postpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 34-1 v Somerset

Big appeal for lbw against Emilio Gay.

Josh Davey gets one to nip back from round the wicket and hits the left hander as he goes back to try to flick it away.

The appeal is a biggie. But maybe going down. Maybe a tad high.

    Not out anyway.

  16. Postpublished at 10 overs

    Surrey v Essex 51-1

Jordan Clark into the attack as Surrey's second change.

Will he have the same instant impact as Sam Curran?

No, but it's a tidy enough start with just a leg bye conceded.

  17. Postpublished at Ouch!

    Yorks v Notts 12-1

And Jack White has got Ben Slater again.

The Notts opener is playing the ball more with his box than his bat at the moment and it is making painful viewing.

For a second consecutive over White has doubled up Slater on the crease.

  18. 50 up for Derbyshirepublished at 9.5 overs

    Derbys 50-0 v Kent

Grant Stewart fires down a no-ball and Caleb Jewell punches it through backward point for four as he and David Lloyd post a 50 partnership for Derbyshire's first wicket from 58 balls.

The Australian is 17 not out and Lloyd has 22.

  19. Postpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 23 May

    Warwickshire 22-1 v Nottinghamshire

A heart-in-the-throat moment for Tom Latham.

He comes forward hard to one from Ben Allison from round the wicket and gets a thick, uncontrolled edge which flies just wide of a diving third slip.

The balls screams away to the deep third fence for four.

Latham's first boundary. A touch fortuitous.

  20. Postpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 23 May

    Yorks v Notts 12-1

Yorkshire coach Anthony McGrath had made no secret that he had requested a bit more green on this pitch with the mower set at 12mm and it certainly looks that way.

You can barely tell the difference between the cut strip and the adjacent wickets which given the dry weather must have taken a bit of watering.

“All the grass at Headingley is doing is making the ball carry,” said McGrath. “I don’t see balls rolling along the floor, flying off a length or nipping a mile.

“We haven’t been able to get wickets in previous years at Headingley, and it’s just giving the bowlers a chance to be in the game and make it a fair contest."

With that in mind and having won the toss and put Notts in this is a decent but not spectacular first nine overs with the danger man Haseeb Hameed gone but no further breakthroughs.

It is looking uncomfortable batting for Freddie McCann and Ben Slater who has been clocked in the box by Jack White with one which darted back at him.
