    Surrey v Essex 50-1

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Everybody expects wickets to tumble in the first half an hour having won the toss and chosen to bowl on a green pitch, but it does not always work like that anymore.

  2. wicket

    Elgar c Sibley b S Curran 31 (Surrey v Essex 50-1)

    Sam CurranImage source, Getty Images

Bowling change by Surrey and it pays off immediately.

Sam Curran, back from the IPL for his first Championship appearance of the summer, strikes with his third delivery.

There's just a little bit of away swing and Dean Elgar edges to second slip, where Dom Sibley takes a good catch.

Essex skipper Tom Westley is the new batter.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.3 overs

    ul-Hassan c Davies b Roland-Jones 11 (Glamorgan 16-1 v Middx)

    Classic Toby Roland-Jones dismissal.

Good length, litile bit of movement away from the bat and Zain ul-Hassan feathers it through to the keeper.

  4. Postpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 23 May

    Warwickshire 18-1 v Worcestershire

After the early loss of Rob Yates, it's been understandably cautious stuff from the Bears as skipper Alex Davies and New Zealand's Tom Latham steady things.

Davies has just creamed Jacob Duffy through the covers for the game's first boundary.

He has six, Latham has five. Both have faced 22 balls.

  5. Postpublished at 8 overs

    Surrey v Essex 49-0

Rory Burns won't be happy about the number of fours Surrey are conceding - 10 so far after a couple more for Dean Elgar.

He rides the extra bounce well to square cut Nathan Smith and the next is too full and steered through the same area by the South African, who is 31 not out.

The important thing, if it is going to be another low scoring one here, is that you capitalise on the bad balls when they come.

Leave, leave, leave, then when you get a half volley, do not let the eyes light up too much and go at it too hard, just time it into a gap.

  7. Henry second to Murali as the fastest to 150 CC wickets!published at 11:27 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 14-1 v Somerset

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

In the Sussex match, Matt Henry reached 150 wickets after just 26 matches, which since 1990 is the second fastest to 150 Championship wickets after Muttiah Muralitharan.

    Henry's were at a cost of 18.35, Murali's were after 20 matches, 157 at 14.63!

Andy Roberts took 30 matches to reach 150 wickets.

  8. Postpublished at 6.1 overs

    Surrey v Essex 34-0

Superb timing by Dean Elgar as he just leans on an overpitched delivery from Dan Worrall and it rolls away back past the stumps for four.

This is Worrall's first game of the month because of injury - is a bit of rush showing?

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 23 May

    Hameed c Wharton b White 6 (Yorks v Notts 9-1)

Yorkshire celebrate a wicketImage source, Getty Images

Great catch and a great start for Yorkshire as the in-form Notts skipper is sent on his way, James Wharton taking a brilliant grab to his right at point.

Hameed has posted scores of 92, 138*, 85, 62* and 206* against Durham last time out so it was understandable Yorkshire celebrated that wildly.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 23 May

    Vasconcelos lbw b Price 4 (Northamptonshire 7-1 v Gloucestershire)

    Pinned.

Ricardo Vasconcelos plays forward to one from Tom Price, it hits him in front and up goes the finger.

There's a drop of the shoulders from Vasconcelos but that's hit him on the back leg. Had it hit his front pad, he might have got away with it with the natural angle going across the left hander.

But a hit of movement back in off the seam has done him.

  11. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 14-1 v Somerset

It's taken 28 balls but we have the first boundary at CLS as Emilio Gay pushes Matt Henry through backward point for four.

He pushes at it a bit, but opens the face at the last second and steers it away nicely.

Gay then follows that up with a couple of twos.

  12. Postpublished at 5.2 overs

    Surrey v Essex 25-0

Surrey are asking a lot of questions of the Essex openers but they are answering them satisfactorily at the moment.

Paul Walter dabs Dan Worrall to third man for four and when Nathan Smith strays onto Dean Elgar's pads in the next over, he bears the cost of another boundary.

  13. Division Two updatepublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 23 May

Derbyshire have made a flying start after opting to bat first against Kent and are 25-0 in the fourth over.

Glamorgan were put in by Middlesex at Sophia Gardens and they are 8-0 after three overs with Zain ul-Hassan and Asa Tribe together.

Slow going for Northants, who have only managed one run off the bat and are 2-0 in the fifth over of their game against Gloucestershire at Wantage Road.

  14. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 23 May

    Durham 6-1 v Somerset

Somerset are pretty close to a second wicket as Ben McKinney is VERY close to snicking one to James Rew behing the stumps.

Josh Davey puts one on a tempting length and McKinney bites with a big drive that doesn't miss his edge by much.

Hands on head moment for Somerset.

Jimmy Anderson misses out against Leicestershire

Jimmy Anderson travelled to Grace Road with the squad and was, so it seems, set to play but will give the four days a swerve as Lancashire and the England legend continue to manage his return to cricket.

Anderson played against Derbyshire at Old Trafford in the last round Lancs said "we [continue to] manage his return to competitive cricket and the busy schedule ahead.

"It was felt back-to-back matches in the County Championship would be too much of a risk."

  16. Trivia question for the daypublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 23 May

    Warwickshire 5-1 v Worcestershire

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Which Warwickshire player was the last to captain England?

Clue one - not Bob Willis!

  17. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Surrey v Essex 12-0

Dan Worrall fires a bouncer past Dean Elgar's nose.

The left-hander is unworried and tucks the Australian paceman off his legs for four.

The next ball is outside off stump and Elgar deflects it past the slips and down to the rope at third man.

  18. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 23 May

How much grass is cut off a cricket outfield before play on the opening morning? This much.

  19. Postpublished at 2 overs

    Surrey v Essex 4-0

Following a leg bye, Essex score their first runs off the bat as Dean Elgar pushes Nathan Smith through mid-on and they take three. Jordan Clark does the chasing to prevent a boundary.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 23 May

    Yates c Roderick b Taylor 3 (Warwickshire 5-1 v Worcestershire)

    Rob Yates nicks one behind!

Tom Taylor picks him up with his first ball of the match. Slightly short of a length from round the wicket, Yates plays a forcing shot of the back foot but can only edge behind to Gareth Roderick.

    Pears strike (very) early.
