    Thanks Sam.

I didn't have Shafali Verma bowling on my bingo card, let alone 2-8 from three overs for the India opener.

The required rate is climbing for South Africa.

  2. SA 127-4published at 25 overs

    Target 299

Sinalo Jafta manages to get a single slightly earlier in this over, fourth ball, before Laura Wolvaardt misses out on a leg-side delivery as she attempts a sweep shot.

The Proteas skipper does manage to keep strike with a single last ball but she is having to do this single-handedly at the moment with Jafta on three from 15 balls.

Time for me to hand over to Elizabeth Botcherby, who will see this World Cup final through to its conclusion.

India have had 11 unsuccessful reviews so far in the competition - more than double the number of the next poorest performing team.

India are turning the screw now...

    Target 299

I remain baffled by South Africa's insistence on batting Sinalo Jafta, who averages 12.13 and has a highest score of 29, at six.

Still, no better time to proves the likes of me wrong than in a World Cup final.

Playing out five dot balls then taking a single to keep Laura Wolvaardt off strike probably isn't the way to go about it, though...

  6. SA 124-4published at 23 overs

    Target 299

Big turn for Shafali Verma but that probably costs her a wicket maiden as the ball rips onto the inside half of Sinalo Jafta's bat and away for a single.

What an impact the part-time spinner has had.

I don't think anyone can believe what is happening, and that is two poor wickets to give away from South Africa. They are soft dismissals.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 22.1 overs

    Kapp c Ghosh b Verma 4 (SA 123-4)

    Shafali Verma has another one!

This time there is plenty of bat involved as Richa Ghosh takes the ball down the leg side - and Harmanpreet Kaur is leaping into Verma's arms again.

A bit of a nothing shot from Marizanne Kapp with the ball turning down leg but a very good take from Ghosh.

    India well on top now.

Five from the over and this final remains delicately poised.

  10. Not outpublished at 21.4 overs

    SA 121-3

    Nope. Absolutely nothing doing.

Nowhere near the glove and no bat involved. Laura Wolvaardt survives and India are out of reviews.

    SA 121-3

India have gone upstairs for a caught behind appeal against Laura Wolvaardt.

Given wide but this is a big moment.

Shafali Verma has been bowling regularly domestically in India, taking 8 wickets from 107 balls in the recent Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

Before the wicket of Luus, she had just one ODI wicket for India.

  13. SA 118-3published at 21 overs

    Target 299

Harmanpreet Kaur jumped into the arms of Shafali Verma after she took that wicket - and why not? That could prove to be the turning point in this chase.

Marizanne Kapp is the new batter and the over ends with five singles and, crucially, a wicket from it.

I don't know what Laura Wolvaardt went down the pitch to say to Sune Luus, but I am assuming she said not to do anything silly.

  15. wicket

    Luus c&b Verma 25 (SA 114-3)

Make that two ODI wickets for Shafali Verma!

Such a tame dismissal for Sune Luus but it could be massive in the context of this World Cup final.

All very tentative from Luus, who seemed determined not to do anything silly against the part-time, and ends up just chipping the ball back to her.

'Could that be the moment that changes this final?' - Luus is caught and bowled by Verma

  16. SA 113-2published at 20.1 overs

    Target 299

Ooh interesting, Shafali Verma is being brought into the attack to bowl some part-time spin.

She has one ODI wicket to her name...

  17. SA 113-2published at 20 overs

    Target 299

Another superb sweep shot from Sune Luus, this one is crunched through square leg again and just beats the fielder coming round from deep backward square.

Those are the only runs from Deepti Sharma's over and brings up the fifty partnership.

Beautiful shot from Sune Luus - she needs to keep her strike-rate up as well to support Laura Wolvaardt and make sure not too much pressure builds on the South African captain, especially with Sree Charani bowling so well from the other end.

  20. SA 109-2published at 19 overs

    Target 299

Laura Wolvaardt can't do it all herself but Sune Luus is doing trying to make sure she doesn't have to.

Luus hits back-to-back boundaries with two very different sweeps.

The first is hit hard just in front of square in the gap, the next lapped fine and it dribbles into the sponge.

South Africa look to be back on track after those two wickets.
