Jofra Archer - fastest average speed in overs 1-10 in an ODI:

    1. 90.6 mph vs Bangladesh, Cardiff 2019

    2. 89.7 mph vs South Africa, The Oval 2019

  3. SA 24-6published at 10 overs

    End of the powerplay

Keshav Maharaj walks out wearing chest and arm guards so Brydon Carse smacks him on the gloves.

You can't wear two of them on one hand...

'There's another one' - Overton takes catch at third slip to dismiss Brevis

    A momentary break indeed!

Dewald Brevis goes two balls after hitting that six, edging to Jamie Overton at third slip - England had only put him in there recently.

It's a bit of juggle, spilling out his hands initially before he clamps the ball to his chest with his forearms.

You can feel the frustration in that shot.

    Almost saying 'finally'.

He threw the kitchen sink at it, both feet off the floor.

  6. 6 runs

    SA 24-5published at 9.3 overs

    Pow!

Dewald Brevis breaks the stranglehold - momentarily at least - upper-cutting Brydon Carse over the ropes at backward point for six.

That gets him off the mark from his 10th delivery.

  9. SA 18-5published at 9 overs

Jofra Archer closes the over by landing one on the arm of new batter Corbin Bosch.

He's taken 4-5 from his five overs with three wicket maidens.

Cricket can be a fickle game and this shows you how good England can be when they get the formula right.

Will Jacks doesn't drop this one!

Yet another flying edge off the shoulder of Tristan Stubbs' bat from a Jofra Archer delivery and Jacks takes a couple of steps to his right and takes the catch fingers up with a little backwards stagger.

    What a bowler.

Kevin Ticehurst: Jofra Archer is our ace in the pack when we go down to Australia this winter. What a spell of fast bowling this is!

Charlie: Turns out the key to winning is to always score 400+ and frazzle the opposition out. Why haven't we just been doing that the last two years?

It was a slightly scrambled seam from Brydon Carse and it hit the surface and jagged away a bit.

It went through at a very catchable height.

That should have been five there - but South Africa could do with the luck.

  15. dropped catch

Stubbs dropped on ninepublished at 8 overs

    SA 18-4

    Should be five down!

Tristan Stubbs had just timed a four through long-on off Brydon Carse, but edged the next delivery into the cordon.

Will Jacks tried to gather at second slip taking a step to his left but spilled a simple chance at roughly waist height.

Stubbs runs a single to move to 10.

What is the largest margin of runs in ODI history? I feel it might be 7th September, 2025.

    David in Maidenhead

The biggest winning margin is 317 runs, David - when India trounced Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram in 2023. England's biggest margin is the 242-run margin they achieved against Australia at Trent Bridge in 2018. That certainly looks in danger at the moment.

  17. SA 12-4published at 7 overs

Another edge - over slip this time!

Tristan Stubbs sends the ball flying just out of the reach of Will Jacks and it runs away for a single.

  18. SA 10-4published at 2.4 overs

    Just short of slip!

Jofra Archer hits the shoulder of Tristan Stubbs' bat and the ball lands in front of Will Jacks at second slip.

Stubbs takes two into the covers and Archer gets his revenge by scudding a delivery off the batter's chest.

Just look at where the batters are having to meet Jofra Archer today. Not one delivery is below the pads with six in the awkward upper region of the body.

Tell you what, Jofra Archer's getting the plaudits but Brydon Carse is bowling superbly as well.

He twice sends the ball flying past the edge of Dewald Brevis and then lands one in a delicate area.

Brevis gets up surprisingly quickly, that must have hurt...
