  1. Kohler-Cadmore hopes Somerset can 'push on'published at 10:11 British Summer Time 9 September

Somerset opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore was cross with himself for surrendering his wicket with a loose shot just a few overs before rain cut short the opening day's play against former club Yorkshire.

He hit two sixes and 11 fours in his 76, but was then caught at slip off Jordan Thompson before the weather forced the players off.

It is a game Somerset need to win to have any realistic chance of forcing their way into the title race and he said: "I was just frustrated by the big shot I played to get out just before the rain came. If we were two wickets down now it would represent a really strong position.

“But James Rew played really well and hopefully he and Tom Abell can push on in the morning. Dom Bess turned a couple of deliveries, which is a good sign for Jack Leach when he bowls for us. It could turn out to be a good toss to have lost.”

  2. 'Building pressure' pays off for Middlesexpublished at 10:08 British Summer Time 9 September

Toby Roland-Jones was delighted by the way Middlesex shrugged off "red-ball rust" to bowl out Derbyshire on the opening day at Lord's.

The former England seamer took four wickets during the afternoon and later added two more to finish with 6-77.

"In that first session I think there was some good stuff, we probably showed some little signs of red-ball rust in terms of stringing overs together and bowling in partnerships, but it looked like guys still had good rhythm and maybe just the odd loose ball," he said.

“Coming together at lunch, we looked to correct that and I think to a man we did that really nicely. Once we found ways of building that pressure up more, things seemed to happen. You wanted to feel like you were threatening the stumps as much as possible without being too predictable and linear. I think we found a good balance."

  3. Weather outlookpublished at 10:06 British Summer Time 9 September

"For many parts of the UK a lot of sunshine is on the cards for much of the day. Just one or two showers for Scotland and the bulk of England but we've got this band of cloudier weather further west already giving showers in Northern Ireland and parts of Wales and it turns more persistent potentially for south west England through the afternoon, heavy and thundery as well" - BBC Weather's Helen Willetts.

Pretty similar to yesterday then, with Taunton again, perhaps, the most likely ground to see an interruption in play.

  4. Muyeye to miss rest of Kent gamepublished at 10:04 British Summer Time 9 September

    Kent 293 v Lancashire 19-0 (play starts 10:30)

Kent have been forced to make a change to their team ahead of day two at Canterbury following a running-between-the wickets collision involving Tawanda Muyeye.

The club say he has "developed symptoms of concussion" and will therefore take no further part in the match.

They have drafted in Joe Denly as a replacement in line with ECB concussion regulations.

Muyeye scored 48 in Kent's first innings before being bowled by Lancashire spinner Tom Hartley.

Keaton Jennings (10*) and Luke Wells (3*) will resume 274 behind after Mitch Stanley's maiden five-fer helped the Red Rose claw their way back from 150-1 and 217-2 to dismiss the basement boys for 293, thanks largely to Ben Compton (77) and Ben Dawkins (60).

Considering the time of year, we did pretty well yesterday with only two of the nine County Championship games being affected by rain.

One of them was at New Road, but title hopefuls Nottinghamshire had enough time to bowl Worcestershire out for under 200, thereby earning three bonus points to reduce Surrey's lead at the top.

Surrey themselves failed to register a batting point at The Oval before hitting back with the ball against Warwickshire.

More twists and turns in store today, and at the other seven grounds. Welcome to our coverage, play starts at 10:30.
