All the numbers are in Rob Cross' favour but the one that counts tells you it is Michael van Gerwen through to the semi-finals.

Voltage averaged 97.97 to MVG's 95.79, had more 100-plus visits, more 140-plus visits and more 180s - three to two.

His percentage on the outer ring was also superior 66.7% to 54.5%.

But despite all that, MVG wins 6-4 and gets the crucial two points in the play-off race.

    Michael van Gerwen advances!

We were not far off another last leg shootout as Rob Cross hit 25 going for the bull for a 126 out.

But when that doesn't go, MVG is left with 40 and gets it at the second time of asking.

The seven-time Premier League winner will face Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals.

    Cross 4-5 Van Gerwen

Rob Cross stays alive with a vital hold of throw.

Despite missing the big number - hitting 11 when he wanted 14 - to start his 54 out, he adjusts, hits another 11 before finishing on double 16.

Can MVG see this one out on his own throw?

    Cross 3-5 Van Gerwen

Much more like it from Michael van Gerwen.

A pair of 130-plus visits got him ahead in the leg and a 120 set him up nicely.

It's another yet that probably lasts longer than either player would want and this time Michael van Gerwen takes it.

Having missed one at double 19, he misses the big number trying to split it on his next visit but quickly adjusts.

Double seven is hit to make it all square again.

    Brilliant from MVG!

The first miss gives Rob Cross a shot at 134 - he gets 132 to leave double one, intentionally or not we may never know.

He doesn't get a shot at it anyway as Mighty Mike finds the bed of double top.

Michael van Gerwen talking to Sky Sports about whether his batteries feel recharged after a holiday: "A little bit, I can't complain too much. It was a nice few days away with the family and that was the most important thing to take my mind off darts for a little bit.

"I feel good and that is most important thing. I know exactly what is at stake and I know i need to get results at this stage. You need to keep on top of things and make it a little bit easier and I can only do that by making sure I win tonight."

The last quarter-final of the night is another big one in the race for the top four as Rob Cross faces Michael van Gerwen.

Both players made it to the semi-finals last week so will be looking to improve on that tonight.

For Cross, who has yet to make a final, it was a seventh semi-final loss of the campaign but the 2018 world champion will be aware that will have to change if he is to overhaul those above him to reach finals night.

The Englishman started the evening three points behind both Van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall and back from Gerwyn Price in third.

For seven-time Premier League winner van Gerwen, this is another opportunity to claim his first nightly win of the year.

After an epic comeback win over Luke Littler in the quarters last week, he briefly threatened the same against Luke Humphries before falling 6-4 in the semis. Is tonight the night for the Dutchman?

"When I'm on my game I am the best in the world. I'm just a little inconsistent," Gerwyn Price said after winning in Liverpool last week.

"If I keep pushing forward, there's no reason why I can't win the Premier League this season."

Well, having beaten the world number one in back-to-back matches, the Welshman has significantly boosted his chances of making finals night and giving himself a shot at that Premier League trophy...

Luke Humphries will wonder quite how he didn't win that match.

He was 5-3 up, averaged 107.46 and hit four 180s but those missed match darts have cost him.

The world number one was just 33.3% on the doubles.

Meanwhile, Gerwyn Price averaged 99.43, also hit four 180s and was 42.9% on the outer ring - the last stat the most crucial perhaps.

That is so good. It is brilliant from Gerwyn Price. He knows the importance of that.

It is not even just winning the quarter-final, it is the way he did it. He was in trouble and he got out of it and those two points could prove absolutely priceless.

Gerwyn Price wins it when Luke Humphries looked to have the leg wrapped up!

The world number one fails to give himself a dart at double when needing 96 and Price punishes him.

It's 102 for the Ice Man and he is nerveless in getting it. Treble 20, two, tops.

A massive win for Price in the race for the top four.
