    S14 Men's 200m Freestyle final

William Ellard talking to Channel 4 after winning gold:

"[It's] probably [the] most nervous I've ever been going into a race.

"I went out quite quick but it didn't feel quick at all. It just hits you that second 100 [metres], definitely hits you like a brick wall, that's the adrenaline going and I learnt that from the 100 [metre] fly the other day.

"Everyone says my stroke rate is easy, but I've been working on with that Nick [Bennett] and you can never make it look hard, it just always looks easy and yeah I'll just try and do more sessions next year and hopefully get under one [minute] 50 [seconds]."

"When I got to the last 25 metres left, that's when I knew that I won, I was just spinning my arms the last 10 metres."

    Alice Tai, that was superb!

The fact she was more than three seconds clear in the heats should have been a signal that Tai was the one to watch and at halfway in the final, she held a three and a half second advantage.

That almost doubled and when she reached the finished, she had taken four seconds off the previous Paralympic record, winning by almost six seconds. Total domination.

Viktoriia Ischulova of the Neutral Paralympic Athletes takes the silver, bronze goes to Germany's Mira Jeanne Maack.

Women's S8 100m backstroke world record holder Alice Tai is in action in the final, where she will look to add to the four medals picked up by ParalympicsGB in the pool during the last 30 minutes or so.

Tai, who set the world record in 2019, finished more than three seconds faster than any of her other finalists in the heats.

The 25-year-old won two medals at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, but both were under S10 classification.

We are running a bit late here but I don’t think that will bother Jodie Grinham too much as she gets set to face Brazil’s Jane Karla Gogel for a semi-final place.

She seemed very relaxed after her win in the last 16, despite being 28 weeks pregnant.

  9. "Speechless" - Stephen Clegg on world recordpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 31 August

    S12 Men's 100m Backstroke final

Stephen Clegg spoke to Channel 4 after winning his first Paralympic gold:

"Speechless to be honest. Tokyo I fell so short and yeah I just wanted to bury my head in the sand after that point. I don't really know what to say to be honest, just thank you to everyone who got me here, my coaches, my team, in particular. I'm very fortunate to be part of such an incredible team in Edinburgh, they support me and we support each other and we've had a really hard few months in particular. As I described, a few things going on behind the scenes and I'm glad I could do this for them.

"Like this is for them, I wouldn't have got here without them, from my coaches, my training partner Scott, who's a backstroker at home who has helped me so much over the years and yeah, not long ago this was one of my weaker events and now I'm a world record holder so I don't really know what to say to be honest.

"I think coming into this I wanted to have a good go at this race to get the monkey off the back. That gold had been a long time coming and I think now the pressure's off a little bit in terms of that sort of barrier that I had and what a way to start for me and I'm over the moon with it.

"This morning I was wrecked with nerves and I actually think with a bit of maturity like that's good for me now, in Tokyo and Rio nerves crippled me and I was done whereas now they kind of fuel me. I know when I'm ready to go when I got tingles in my fingers and I had them in both heat and finals today so that I knew there was something good coming. That swim this morning felt pretty comfortable and over the moon."

"I think I have exceeded my expectations of myself going into this. It's very easy to think 'I'm Paralympic champion' and put pressure on myself but I'm into the quarter-finals and I will be top eight at a Paralympics again and I can't ask for more.

"I'm super-happy with how I shot and with my process."

"I will sit in the athletes lounge and chill out now but keep warmed up and ready for the next round."
