Speaking to Channel 4 about her medal and coach: "I've never cried over one medal in my whole life and it was the first one after my amputation, oh and a little bit of the one at Commonwealths.

"It's my first individual gold at the Paralympics and I just can't believe it, the crowd's amazing and I'm so happy with my time and I told my coach, he said he's going to retire and I said 'nope, I'm going to go faster next season and you're not allowed to retire because you're going to get me there' so a lot of emotions."

On how her family will be feeling: "Super proud. I don't know where my actual family are, like my mum and stuff, I've not seen them in the crowd, it's my boyfriend and his family, they know nothing about swimming, so anything I'd have done they'd have been like 'you're the best, you're amazing', so you know I feel like a gold's a pretty good standard to go by but yeah, it's so nice to have them here.

"I'm definitely going to cry when I go give them a hug. I hope I'm allowed to give them a hug, I don't know if someone will stop me but I'll try, but I can't get over it, I'm having such a great time and I excited to come back tomorrow!"

It means Tokyo champion Paterson Pine will not defend her title, but she does still have a chance of a medal.

Since retaining her T38 100m title in Tokyo, equalling her own world record in the process, things have not been plain sailing for Sophie Hahn.

The 27-year-old from Nottingham suffered a setback at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, losing out to GB team-mate Olivia Breen for her first major competition 100m final defeat since 2014.

The 2023 Worlds in Paris were another tough experience for Hahn with bronze in both the 100m and 200m, while she finished with a silver as part of the universal relay team.

Tonight Hahn faces a formidable challenge in Paris against world champion Luca Ekler of Hungary and Colombian pair Darian Jiminez - the 2023 world champion and Tokyo silver medallist - and Karen Palomeque, winner of silver behind Ekler in Kobe, plus Greek newcomer Lida Manthopolou.

But Hahn produced an impressive run at the London Diamond League meeting last month, clocking the fastest time in the world this year in 12.55 seconds to show she is in good form as she seeks to once again retain her title.

Here's what Great Britain's Thomas Young had to say after the Tokyo champion narrowly missed out on the medals in the men's 100m T38 final in Paris.

On finishing fourth on Channel 4: "I'm gutted, just gutted. I don't want to look for excuses right now, you know, I'm going to go away, work hard in the winter. Things did happen in the warm-up which I wasn't too happy with. My legs sort of cramped in the warm up but no excuses and we'll come back stronger next year."

On learnings from this year: "[I've learnt] so much, so much, so much I've learnt, just wasn't to be on the night and I know I've been moving quicker than that all season so I'm absolutely gutted but we'll come back stronger. I'm so grateful for everyone coming out of here and supporting me, but no I am absolutely gutted today and I do feel like I've let people down."

Advice for young people: "Just never give up. I came to Paris last year and came seventh. That was the lowest point in my career, I think tonight is even lower to be fair but I will just have to come back stronger and yeah, just come back stronger next year."

On Paris 2024: "It's been such a good experience coming out here. I've had so much fun and I've learnt a lot, we've got some really good things coming up too. I've got a sock competition on my Instagram, so people can still go there and have fun. Tonight really wasn't my night."

    S8 Women's 100m Backstroke final

Here's some more from Alice Tai who was one of three gold medals in 40 minutes for ParalympicsGB.

On being in a Paralympic final: “I feel like my face isn’t normally a dead giveaway of how I’m feeling but I’ve had a couple of other people tell me that I just look like I’m in complete shock and I was just taking it all in. In the heats, the vibe was so different to the finals and the crowd is incredible. I don’t think I’m going to get used to it this week. I have four other events and I don’t think there is going to be one where I’m walking out where I’m expecting such an incredible welcome to poolside.”

On winning gold in her first event: “The 100m back is one of my main events. We’ve been focusing on the 100m butterfly which is on the last day which kind of sucks because I’m going to be tired. To come away with a gold in something we’ve been training for is super cool. The other three events which are sandwiched between my main two: the 200 medley, the 400 free, 50 free. I should end up on the podium if everything goes to plan, but definitely not ones we’ve been training for. It’s nice to just race. Any opportunity to race at a Paralympic Games I’m going to take. I swam about a second faster, just under a second faster than my best time this year in my 100 back so I have good faith in my own abilities in the races to come that I’ll drop some more.”

On laughing to herself before getting into the water and whether it was disbelief about being here: “A little bit, but also I tried to take my jumper off without unzipping it and I realised it wouldn’t go over my goggles and I thought that’s so stupid, I’ve been swimming for so long, how can I forget such a silly thing. I feel like I do that all the time, I feel like I was quite unphased by it. It did break the ice a little bit. Although my coach asked me to dance and I did forget, so maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.”

Young, who aged 12 was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis which affects coordination and balance, was inspired by the London 2012 Games and burst on to the scene by winning double European gold over 100m and 200m in 2018.
