Truro City enjoy financial boost from FA Trophy run

Truro will take on Hemel Hempstead Town in the next round

Truro City boss Steve Tully has said his side's success in the FA Trophy is a welcome financial boost for the club.

A late Craig Duff goal helped the White Tigers beat Witham Town on Saturday to reach the third qualifying round, where they will face Hemel Hempstead.

"It's going well and making money for the club which is great," Tully told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"That's what it's all about. The chairman will be happy and everybody loves a cup run."

Witham Town had their goalkeeper Martyn Guest sent off in the second half for a foul on Duff, but Truro's prolific striker - who now has 14 goals this season - spurned the opportunity from the penalty spot.

Duff made amends in the closing stages though, slotting home after great build-up work from Isaac Vassell.

Truro City are enjoying a decent campaign in the Southern Premier League, with the team in sixth place in the table.

"The main focus is on the league but it would be nice to have a cup run alongside it," added Tully.

"We seem to be grinding out results and didn't play the best but always looked like scoring and that's five clean sheets in six which is a big plus for us.

"We've found a system which suits us. The team are gelling and we're going along nicely."
