Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall has returned to training

Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall is close to returning and has an outside chance of playing against Brighton in Tuesday's home league game.

The Scotland international has not played in 2015 since injuring his ankle at the end of December.

"He'll be closer again on Tuesday, there's a chance," Cardiff manager Russell Slade said.

"He's definitely making good progress and the operation seems to have gone really well."

Slade added: "He's started to do some handling, so that's pleasing as well to have him back."

Cardiff ended a run of four successive defeats with a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship on Saturday.

"The attitude was first class from the start, and arguably we were the better side first half and created a couple of good openings," Slade said.

"We tried to rush the ball up a little bit in the final 15 minutes, when sometimes if there was one more pass we might have been a bit more convincing.

"We were under a lot of pressure... the home team was coming at us but we stood firm, so I was pleased with that."

Lee Peltier and Scott Malone both picked up knocks in that game and will face fitness tests before the Brighton game.

Cardiff's squad saw a major overhaul during the January transfer window and Slade said it will take time for the team to blend.

"We've lost 11 players in the window and we've brought six in, so you're still trying to get that modicum of success on the pitch while we're going through a period of transition," Slade added.

"I know people don't want to hear about transition but it is the way it is, it's a fact.

"There's still a lot of work to do... but the attitude of the players was of wanting to achieve something and turn it round.

"It has been difficult not picking up points but it can't rain forever... we got something to build on [against Sheffield Wednesday]."
