  4. England's defensive questionspublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time

BBC football news reporter at St George's Park

Coming into this England camp, as always there is a lot of talk about how England could play.

When naming his first squad, Thomas Tuchel said that he did not want to give away whether England were going to play with a back four or a back three.

The biggest clue that England could play with a back three is that Tuchel named nine defenders in his first 26 man squad.

Marc Guehi has cemented himself as a key part of England's team after Euro 2024 and will be a near certain starter, but with regular centre backs Harry Maguire and John Stones out, there are spaces up for grabs.

Newcastle defender Dan Burn has been called up and Tuchel says he has been 'overlooked'.

Ezri Konsa and Levi Colwill have shone in moments for England but both have also played at full back for the national team.

Kyle Walker and Reece James have played as right centre backs before too so in naming so many players that can play in different positions it keeps the opposition, and us, guessing.

  5. What's coming up?published at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time

We have plenty more Dan Burn insights to come, as we look at how the Newcastle defender could fit into Thomas Tuchel's England side.

Phil McNulty's Q&A also continues, and we will recap the key topics discussed in this week's Monday Night Club.

Later on, we will have a look at some quotes from United States manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has been speaking about his time at Tottenham and how he would one day like to return to the club.

And we will assess the dramatic turnaround in fortunes at Nottingham Forest, one year on from their Premier League points deduction.

  6. 'Tuchel called me unprofessional'published at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time

It was quite a relaxed, light-hearted news conference, as you might imagine, as Dan Burn recounted tales of the Carabao Cup final celebrations and an amusing exchange with Thomas Tuchel.

The Newcastle defender said Tuchel jokingly called him "unprofessional" for answering the phone at 10pm, when the German called to let him know he was in the England squad.

Lewis-Skelly is 'an outstanding young talent'published at 13:12 Greenwich Mean Time

    Phil McNulty Q&A

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Tom in London: Hi Phil. Myles Lewis-Skelly is a raw talent but on field discipline is clearly an issue. I’m sure Arteta is working hard with him on that, but as a very youthful member of this England squad, how much should Tuchel intervene regarding this side of his game?

Morning, Tom. Tuchel said it himself when he suggested it would be a “paternal vibe” with Lewis-Skelly. Left-back is a position where England are short of options. He and Mikel Arteta will be aware that the teenager can be impetuous. They will work on that and take it into consideration. He is an outstanding young talent who has the chance to play for England for years to come.

While young players like Jarrad Branthwaite and Adam Wharton have been left with a point to prove, Thomas Tuchel has shown he is willing to trust in young players.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is one of 14 current Premier League players named by Lee Carsley in his England Under-21s squad.

The 22-year-old has featured in 22 of Everton's 29 league games this season.

He heads into the heads into the U21s camp with a massive point to prove.

Prior to Thomas Tuchel's squad announcement he told BBC Sport about the "motivation" he took from not making the Euros squad last summer.

"I missed out recently with a big squad and I don't want that feeling again," said Brathwaite.

  12. Wharton trains with England's senior teampublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time

Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton may have been named in England's Under-21s squad, but the 21-year-old trained with England's senior team on Monday.

Wharton won his first senior call-up before the 2024 Euros, when he featured from the bench in England's 3-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Palace midfielder was part of Gareth Southgate's Euros squad, but did not feature during the tournament.

I can understand the surprise and concern about Henderson's inclusion given his age and recent career. But I do think people often overlook how integral he was in his prime. Yes, he might not have been the most dynamic on the ball or with his passing choices, but he brought so much stability to any team he played in, especially in his off-the-ball leadership, which often dictated the shape, structure and movement of everyone around him. I don't think he should be in the current squad, but I do think he was a much more important player than a lot of England fans give him credit for. Football is about much more than technical ability and attacking prowess on the ball.

'Still feels like a retrograde step to me'published at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time

    Phil McNulty Q&A

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

James in Epsom: Hi Phil. Is Conor Gallagher unlucky to miss out after his latest performances for Atletico Madrid?

Hi James. Conor Gallagher has been in and out of the Atletico side, but for a coach of the calibre of Diego Simeone to show such trust in him for that Champions League second leg tie against Real Madrid shows how much he rates him.

I think he was a little unlucky, but of course the big surprise in that area was the recall of Jordan Henderson, who is 35 in June, who last played for England in November 2023. I was amazed by that, but Tuchel made it clear he wants him for his leadership and influence. Still feels like a retrograde step to me.

@win_n10 on X: Is it important for Thomas Tuchel to sing the national anthem?

This subject was raised about Lee Carsley not singing the anthem when he was in interim charge, so I will give the same answer as I did then.

My view - and I should stress right away other views are available - is that it should be a matter of personal choice for Tuchel or anyone else. He should not feel as if he is being forced to sing it, and he has already said he feels he has to earn the right to sing it.

And he is, of course, German.

In my opinion, England's football manager/coach should be judged on results and performances alone.

    Dan BurnImage source, Getty Images

If you're just joining us and you missed Dan Burn's first news conference as an England player, here's the key points you missed:

    • On his leadership qualities and changing focus to England: "I feel like I’m a leader on and off the pitch. I fit into that role. It was strange, as soon as I left the stadium [Wembley], it switched to this. I’ve got the ability to play international level."
    • On finally being called-up, aged 32:"I've waited a long time for this opportunity and I didn't want to spoil it. He [Thomas Tuchel] said I've been playing well for a long time. I'm not just coming in to be a cheerleader - I want to play."
    • On his World Cup dream: "I'm trying to take it camp by camp and make a big impression as I can and try make the next camp. Every little kid's dream is to play in a World Cup."
    • On being overlooked by Gareth Southgate: "In my opinion, he treated it more like a club, which worked well for them. It wasn't like it was back in the day. It was about the togetherness, but that worked against me a little bit. So, when the new manager came in, it was kind of a new slate."
    • On being doubted during his career:"I feel like I have been doubted a lot over my career. Not many people at Darlington would have said I'd be sitting here doing a press conference for England, but as I said it has made me more resilient. I feel I deserve to be here."
    • On feeling his England chances had gone: "I had never played any international football, which worked against us. I did think it had passed us by at 32. When the new manager came in it was that feeling of 'you never know'."
