Florian Wirtz's touch map from the game against Eintracht Frankfurt is below.

The 22-year-old made 56 accurate passes and kept the game ticking.

He may have been on the team sheet as a right midfielder but he was everywhere.

  3. Wirtz shows classpublished at 10:35 BST

Liverpool's Florian Wirtz registered two assists in four minutes on his return to Germany to continue his form after a sharp performance off the bench against Manchester United.

A lovely measured pass gave Cody Gakpo a tap in before he put the ball into space for Dominik Szoboszlai to fire in from long range.

A tidy performance from the German who knows Eintracht Frankfurt well from his Bayern Leverkusen days.

There has been plenty of chat about Wirtz's slow start since his £116m.

He is yet to score but that was his first goal contributions since the Reds' Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace.

People always forget that Robertson was behind (respectfully) Alberto Moreno for 6 months when he joined. He took 6 months to adjust and earn his place. I don't expect this team to fully click until January, so it's just about hanging around the top 3 in the league until then.

BBC Sport pundit Stephen Warnock explains how Liverpool adopting a 4-4-2 formation against Eintracht Frankfurt enabled Arne Slot to get his high profile attacking players into the squad, but warns it could lead to the Premier League champions being vulnerable in midfield without the right personnel.

I don't think the Liverpool XI last night was the final article, even putting injuries aside. They are open in the midfield and need Gravenberch and an in form Mac Allister. Then we could really start firing again. And stick with Bradley!

  7. Robertson still has itpublished at 10:16 BST

    Eintracht Frankfurt 1-5 Liverpool

Andy Robertson has only started twice for Liverpool this season - both coming in the Champions League.

The 31-year-old impressed against Atletico Madrid in a 3-2 win and again was on top form against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Robertson, who made 84 accurate passes, delivered a perfect through ball to send Hugo Ekitike in to level the game in the first half.

Milos Kerkez has had a mixed start to his Reds career and is learning off Robertson, who is showing he has still got it.

It was a big call to leave Mohamed Salah on the bench.

I'm someone who is all for honesty, so if you're the best player for that moment then you play and it doesn't matter what your name is - and for a little while that hasn't been Salah in this team.

We all know how fabulous he is, how much we love him, and his capabilities of suddenly scoring a phenomenal amount of goals. But if you're one of the players sat behind him, you're thinking 'give me a chance'.

If you've lost those four games in a row previously and then won against Frankfurt - is it so much of a shock if he doesn't start the next game? I'm afraid not.

  10. Slot's tweaked tactical approachpublished at 10:00 BST

Arne Slot's altered his approach against Frankfurt and in the end it paid off.

Liverpool played in a 4-4-2 shape out of possession throughout the game which isn't uncommon for his teams, with Florian Wirtz defending as a right midfielder.

In possession they played with a slightly fluid 3-2-5 shape. Cody Gakpo and first Jeremie Frimpong, then Conor Bradley held width on the left and right flank respectively.

Isak played inside, slightly towards the left, Wirtz playing inside towards the right side and Ekitike down the middle, however these three rotated between themselves.

Defensively, Liverpool still looked open at times and the more attacking midfield trio, paired with Slot's rotation-heavy approach, left gaps down the middle.

In possession, however, this was a performance full of bright performances and budding relationships that may inform how Slot looks to get this Liverpool side in good form, perhaps at the expense of some of their more established names.

Has Liverpool's win over Eintracht Frankfurt given Arne Slot his best XI?

After weeks of indifferent performances and four straight defeats, Liverpool finally looked like a complete team in their victory in Germany.

Hugo Ekitike continued his impressive start to life at Liverpool, Florian Wirtz put in a classy display and Andy Robertson brought an air of calm to the defensive line.

And they did it all without Mohamed Salah on the pitch.

Is it really time to accept the Reds are a better team without the Egyptian king? Or is the winger bound to reclaim his throne?

    There's lots to go at.

Arne Slot was obviously trying to warn Mohamed Salah by putting him on the bench, but it was a wonderful win for Liverpool in the end.

They had to garner the confidence to come from a goal behind, which is the first time they've had to do that since Tottenham last season.

The performance definitely put them in the right position and everything is pointing towards Liverpool's having a bright spell again.

  13. 'It was special to come back home'published at 09:46 BST

Liverpool's Hugo Ekitike, speaking to TNT Sports: "It was a great feeling [to come back to Frankfurt]. It was something special to come back home. To win and score my first Champions League goal here was important. I just keep it calm and cool. I knew he would come and open his legs so I put it between the legs and that worked."

On his first start with Alexander Isak: "I think it was good. We can improve together and he is a very good player, we need to work together and find a good association."

On why he has settled in so quickly: "I have very good team mates, staff and I love my life here. I hope I can keep going because it's about consistency in football. I feel really good and they have helped me a lot, that is why I am calm and doing my thing."

Arne Slot is surely aware of Salah's performances, goals, age etc. Easing new players in, irrespective of their quality, is a time consuming process most of the time. As Pat Nevin said, you can never discount world-class players, yet this Liverpool team looked better without him.

    Champions League

Reigning champions Paris St-Germain and German giants Bayern Munich have lit up the early weeks of the Champions League this season with some brilliant offensive football.

PSG have netted 13 goals in just three games while Bayern are only one goal short of the Parisians as the two sides occupy the top spots in the league phase table with nine points.

Luis Enrique's PSG, who lifted the Champions League for the first time last season by demolishing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final, began with a 4-0 win over Atalanta and also thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 7-2.

They also showed their grit in a late 2-1 win in Barcelona, proving they are worthy contenders this time around too.

Meanwhile, Bayern's heroics in Europe have been powered by their five-goal striker Harry Kane, who top the scoring charts alongside Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe.

The Bundesliga side began with a 3-1 win against Chelsea before beating Pafos 5-1 and Club Brugge 4-0.

If early-season form is anything to go by, it will be a huge surprise if either of these sides do not make a deep run in the competition this term.

And no doubt that all eyes will be glued on the two sides when they meet in the league phase at Parc des Princes on 4 November.

Putting Salah back in the first eleven may cause disruptions based on his desire to get back on the scoresheet. Last night was a prime example where he should have squared to Wirtz but he chose glory for himself. In tight games, this selfishness may cost Liverpool.

Interesting to see how far Arsenal go. City have the experience, but Arsenal have the better team balance. They also have the advantage of no pressure. If Haaland’s injured, City tend to struggle. If Arsenal lose a player, they have another that can come straight in. They have a Plan B, and the other English teams don’t seem to.
