The Spurs fans have spoken in our thumb vote!

We asked you who you would rather have as your manager right now and Thomas Frank wins by a huge margin.

At the time of writing, almost 1,700 of you voted in favour of a trophyless Frank while only less than 350 would love to see Europa League winner Ange Postecoglou back at the helm.

    Surprising!

Forest have been struggling for several months, but it seems to have been forgotten. They have won three of their last 28 matches, including friendlies. They beat Manchester United, Tottenham (under Ange!) and Brentford. Hopefully they turn it around soon!

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche on the challenge posed by the Primeira Liga leaders Porto: "Porto have had a great start, are unbeaten so far in Europe and the league. It has been difficult to cram a lot of work into the players but they have been receptive and open-minded so far."

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche on owner Evangelos Marinakis being open about the challenges Forest face: "He is aware of it. He keeps up with the stats and facts. He is aware it was a challenging run at the end of last season. That's why they tried to add to it to try to keep moving forward. It was a good conversation. I wouldn't certainly be here if it had been a bad conversation."

  7. What Dyche has to fix at Forestpublished at 15:50 BST

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

Decide on his best line-up. Forest used fewer players in the top flight than any other side last season before spending £193m on 13 new recruits in the transfer window, leaving them with a bloated squad. Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo and James McAtee – signed for a combined cost of £85m – were left out of the matchday squad for Postecoglou’s final game.

Europe offers the chance for Dyche to get some of those players involved and assess what they can offer – though not record signing Hutchinon or the on-loan Oleksandr Zinchenko, both whom were left out of Forest’s Europa League squad.

Dyche has historically been reluctant to rotate, averaging just 1.2 line-up changes per top-flight game at Burnley and 1.6 at Everton. In fact, since making his managerial debut in the Premier League he has named an unchanged side 89 times, comfortably more than anyone else.

If it comes down to a choice between prioritising results and sharing out minutes to keep players happy, he is unlikely to let sentiment affect his selection.

  8. What Dyche has to fix at Forestpublished at 15:47 BST

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche, whose tenure begins against Porto tonight, has already laid down a marker by banning snoods and hats from training – but there’s plenty more that needs fixing at the City Ground.

Establish a clear playing style. Forest thrived last season by defending deep and breaking rapidly on the counter-attack but their summer recruitment and the ill-fated appointment of Postecoglou demonstrated the club hierarchy wanted a more possession-focussed style. That clearly hasn’t paid off and hiring Dyche is an admission they need to go back to basics.

Organise the defence. Forest were a tough nut to crack in 2024-25 but have yet to keep a clean sheet this term and conceded 11 times from set-pieces in their eight games under Postecoglou. Given the aerial ability of centre-backs Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo, Dyche will be confident of improving that dismal record.

Get Chris Wood scoring. The New Zealander netted 20 Premier League goals last year, a total bettered by only three players, but has just two in the current campaign, both coming on the opening weekend. While he turns 34 in December, Wood enjoyed plenty of success playing under Dyche at Burnley so could prove a key figure, though he is doubtful for tonight’s game because of a knee issue.

Well Porto are flying and I'm pretty sure the wheel still hadn't been invented the last time we beat Bournemouth, so I'm not expecting much from these first two games.

Dyche - I take great pride in being Forest manager

New Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche speaking in his first news conference on his style of play: "The players are aware of it. I took a lot of feedback from the players and not just me. They are very proud of what they did last season.

"Now can we mould it slightly differently but keep that winning mentality? Long ball, short ball? You have just got to play effective football. That will never go out of fashion."

Frank's start not the issue imho. Spurs management have long fostered an also-ran mentality. Investing in good but not top-class players one expression. Same is true of women's team and why we don't seriously compete with likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, men's or women's.

  12. How long has it been since Forest won a game?published at 15:40 BST

Nottingham Forest v Porto (20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have not won since the opening game of the season on 17 August against Brentford.

They are third from bottom in the Premier League with only five points from eight games.

    Up next for them are:

    • Porto (h) (20:00 BST)
    • Bournemouth (a) (Sunday, 14:00 BST)
    • Manchester United (h) (Sat, 1 Nov 15:00 BST)

A chance for a winning run?

Sean Dyche, who was appointed Nottingham Forest boss on Tuesday, will take charge of his first game later tonight against Porto in the Europa League.

The former Everton boss succeeds former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, who lasted just 39 days at the City Ground and was sacked 17 minutes after Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Chelsea in the Premier League.

Postecoglou did not win any of his eight games in charge - drawing two and losing six.

Dyche will need to start fast!

I'm not exactly sure how some Spurs fans think they *should* be doing? They are sixth in the league (not 17th) and playing against strong European teams in the Champions League (not the Europa League). On what basis do they feel they should be punching higher? Spurs fans are weird.

A! Look, I know our attack is lacking cohesion at the moment but that will come. However, our defence has improved massively, compared to the last two seasons anyway - clean sheets galore! He's also done it in a little space of time. The future is looking good under Frank.

    Charlie, Lambeth

Frank's start has been incredible. He has taken a team from 17th place and struggling to win a game in the Premier League, to a team that haven't yet lost a single Champions League game and are sixth place in a super unpredictable Premier League table.

D- We have got one point from home games against Bournemouth, Wolves and Villa. The performances in two of those games were shocking. The Bodo/Glimt and Monaco performances were very poor, so it is worrying. Tel and Odobert have been far from good enough.

  19. 'Tottenham really lacklustre in the forward areas'published at 15:18 BST

    Monaco 0-0 Tottenham

    Stephen Kelly
Former Tottenham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tottenham were really lacklustre in the forward areas and it is becoming very evident they are lacking a central striker.

I know they have [Dominic] Solanke and Richarlison, who just haven't really been firing due to injuries, but in Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons they have two players who are very good at link-up play. Dejan Kulusevski has also been missed.

But that central striker has just not been there - and it's very evident that they just don't have that in their squad at the moment.

If Tottenham are going to back Thomas Frank, I suspect that will be the position he will want to strengthen in January.

Watching Spurs this season has not been the rollercoaster ride we had under Ange. Are we the finished article? No, however what Thomas Frank is doing is building a solid foundation to build on, plus a good team spirit with strong leaders.

    Neil, Horsham

Criticising Frank is nuts, he has been there three months. Tottenham look solid, if a little bereft of ideas going forward. They are without Solanke, Maddison and Kulusevski. He needs time, and every Spurs fan should get off his back and support him. I went on Sunday, it is early days.

Lack of creativity? It's almost as if two of the most creative players in the Premier League are injured at the moment.
