  5. Mikey Johnston makes permanent switch from Celtic to West Brompublished at 21:05 British Summer Time 30 August

West Bromwich Albion have re-signed Celtic's Republic of Ireland international Mikey Johnston for an undisclosed seven-figure fee.

The 25-year-old winger, who spent a successful loan at The Hawthorns over the second half of last season, has now signed a four-year contract with the Baggies, reportedly on a £3m price tag.

Albion boss Carlos Corberan told BBC Radio WM that his mission to sign Johnston began after their play-off semi-final, second-leg loss at Southampton - but the club were in no financial position then to put in a realistic bid.

‘’I remember the words of Johnston telling me that, if for any reason Celtic decided they not to keep him, that he loved Albion and that he was going to try his best to make his career in this amazing club and in life," he said.

"Sometimes these things happen. At the same time he told me this, I was clear with him because I knew the reality. I said to him we all like him as a player but our financial situation didn’t allow us to invest at that time."

  11. Gilmour to Napoli back onpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 30 August

    BBC Sport

Billy Gilmour’s on-off move to Napoli is back on.

The Brighton midfielder has been a long-term target for the Italian club.

However, Brighton were resistant to letting Gilmour leave and that attitude hardened after new signing Matt O’Riley suffered a serious ankle injury during the midweek EFL Cup win over Crawley that requires surgery.

Napoli were insistent they still wanted the Scotland international though and Brighton have eventually relented.

Although the deal is not completed yet, sources on both sides believe it is more likely to happen than not.

Gilmour remains a popular figure at the Amex and Brighton believe it would be difficult to keep the 23-year-old happy given he was probably not going to be a regular starter under new boss Fabian Hurzeler.
