BBC Final Score at Vale Park

The sun’s gone down, I’ve switched from shades to glasses and put my gloves on.

Maldon & Tiptree have finally managed a couple of efforts on goal in this second half but the contest is done and we’re in the dying light of their FA Cup run now.

Waltham Abbey are next up for The Jammers, the fresh legs from Kevin Horlock may be with next Saturday in mind.

They can be proud of where they’ve got to but attention will soon turn to displacing Felixstowe & Walton at the top of the Isthmian League North.

  2. CLOSE!published at 16:53 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Ruari Paton is still determined to claim a hat-trick and, from a tight angle, he hits a shot which hits the side netting.

The goal collapses and literally breaks the goal which means a couple of groundsmen have come on to fix it.

Inevitably, that has led the Vale fans behind the goal to sing "you don't know what you're doing" and "you're getting sacked in the morning" towards them.

  3. ADDITIONAL TIMEpublished at 16:50 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Freddie Sears flashes a ball across the face of the area but it's too quick for anyone to react.

Meanwhile, following a lot of substitutions in the second-half, the fourth official says we will have seven minutes of additional time to complete this match.

.... Which comes to nothing in the end.

  5. Postpublished at 16:48 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Maldon and Tiptree have worked their socks off but it is Ruari Patton who is down with cramp at the moment.

Vale have themselves a late corner in the 90th minute.

  6. Faal has to head itpublished at 16:47 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon & Tiptree

    Adam Yates
Former Vale defender on BBC Radio Stoke

He's got to head it. He's in the six-yard box, it's a cross by George Hall but brilliant play from Rhys Walters.

He just drives through and goes through the gears up the field and slides it to George Hall but Faal has to just head that. I think he's tried to hit it with his laces right underneath it.

That's the type of ball he would've been desperate to have heading into the afternoon.

  7. CHANCEpublished at 16:44 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Great opportunity for Port Vale's sixth goal.

A lovely centre finds Mo Faal but he is caught underneath the cross and is unable to volley home from four yards out.

He can't quite believe he's missed that.

  8. Postpublished at 16:40 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Oh good opportunity for the visitors to get a second!

The ball is worked well inside to Courtney Senior but the winger, on his weaker left foot, shoots well over from just outside the box.

That was a presentable opportunity for Maldon and Tiptree.

  9. Pace and power troubling Maltonpublished at 16:39 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon & Tiptree

    Adam Yates
Former Vale defender on BBC Radio Stoke

You have to be mobile when you're coming up against EFL footballers and I think that's where they've [Malton & Tiptree} struggled.

Obviously, they got that goal early on but they've struggled to cope with the pace and power and movement of these Vale players. You couple that with the ruthless finishing we've seen this afternoon and Vale could've had at least another three or four goals.

  10. Postpublished at 16:38 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Maldon and Tiptree striker Freddie Sears has an opportunity and looks to work it on to his left foot but his strike is well blocked and the ball goes out for a throw in to the visitors.

  11. Postpublished at 16:36 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

The game is gone for the visitors but they are still giving their all for the 283 travelling fans that have made the trip from Essex today.

Kevin Horlock will be proud of his side's effort no matter what the scoreline will end up as.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:34 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Vale sub Dajaune Brown is slipped through in on goal but goes down in the box following a challenge from behind.

Brown is booked for simulation when he thinks the referee is going to point to the spot - replays suggest he might have been hard done by there.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:29 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

The seven substitutions over the past few minutes have disrupted Vale's flow somewhat and that has helped Maldon and Tiptree.

Meanwhile, Dylan Williams has received a yellow card for a foul in midfield and he is instantly withdrawn by head coach Kevin Horlock. Mohammed Amir is on for him.

  14. Yates 'big fan' of Ojopublished at 16:28 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon & Tiptree

    Adam Yates
Former Vale defender on BBC Radio Stoke

I'm a big fan of him [Funso Ojo]. I'm not particularly sure what happened in terms of him going out on loan to Shrewsbury and the reasons for that but he has undoubted quality.

Really comfortable on the ball, makes it tick, rarely gives it away, applies himself properly.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:26 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Another change for Vale as skipper George Byers is replaced by the popular Funso Ojo.

Dajaune Brown, who has just come off the bench for the home side, spoke to BBC Radio Stoke midweek about his time so far on loan at Port Vale.

He said: "When I was back at Derby I was struggling to get minutes so I just wanted to come out and get minutes."

"The gaffer said, 'Come here, prove yourself, get minutes, get experience,' and they'd been looking at me for a few windows now, so he was happy to get me and I was happy to come here.

"Him [Darren Moore] along with the other staff members when we're outside, we'll finish training and get ourselves on to individual finishing, drills, whatever I think I need to improve on."

  17. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 16:22 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptree

    Triple substitution for both sides.

First, the home side, Marvin Johnson is withdrawn for Jaheim Headley, Cameron Humphreys comes off for Ben Heneghan and Devante Cole will not get the opportunity to get a match ball as he is replaced by Dajaune Brown.

For the visitors, Maldon and Tiptree goal scorer Anisius Lewis, Terrell Egbri and Tom Eastman come off for Louie Arrowsmith, Amine Sassi and Macauley Bonne.

  18. Brilliant ball from Patonpublished at 16:20 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 5-1 Maldon & Tiptree

    Adam Yates
Former Vale defender on BBC Radio Stoke

It was George Byers' header but I think it's Devante Cole on the line who backheels it in. It's a brilliant ball from Ruari Paton, coming in with pace. George Byers gets across it with good contact and I'm 99% sure it's Devante Cole who backheels it in.

GOAL: Port Vale 5-1 Maldon and Tiptreepublished at 16:14 GMT 2 November

    Devante Cole (56 mins)

    Vale have a fifth!

The home side earn a corner which they send in from the left and, after George Byers heads towards goal, Devante Cole instinctively flicks his heel and diverts the ball into the net while virtually stood on the goal line.

Cole gets his second of the day and he will be hungry for a hat-trick now.

  20. Postpublished at 16:13 GMT 2 November

Port Vale 4-1 Maldon and Tiptree

Perhaps unsurprisingly the second-half hasn't quite lived up to the first.

A bit of a mishap at the back from Maldon and Tiptree sees Devante Cole presented an opportunity, but his effort is well kept out by Elliot Justham, stretching low to his left.
