  1. 'Eastleigh will be kicking themselves'published at 14:38 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-1 Walsall

    Mark Scott
    Commentator on BBC Two

Eastleigh will be kicking themselves with the manner of the goal they conceded because it's been pretty even-stevens aside from that set-piece that was converted by Evan Weir.

  2. CLOSE!published at 14:36 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-1 Walsall

A huge chance for the home side!

Harvey Saunders is played through on goal and finesses his effort towards goal with his left foot but it rolls just wide of the far post.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 14:35 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-1 Walsall

Walsall's Aaron Pressley is shown the first yellow card of the game after jumping for a header and extending his elbow into the head of an Eastleigh player.

  4. 'Exactly the kind of pressure that Eastleigh need'published at 14:32 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-1 Walsall

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Two

That's exactly the kind of pressure that Eastleigh need to apply. They're the home team, they've got to start to set about them and force mistakes.

  5. Postpublished at 14:32 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-1 Walsall

Eastleigh come close to getting themselves back on level terms!

It's a real mix-up at the back between two Walsall defenders and Eastleigh forward Ciaran McGuckin nearly finds himself in on goal.

They then hit the crossbar moments later through Lloyd Humphries, and follow up with a set-piece that is poked narrowly wide of the goal by Temi Eweka.

    The Spitfires are responding well.

  6. 'Losing skipper early is a blow'published at 14:27 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-1 Walsall

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Two

It was a massive blow for Eastleigh, to lose your skipper [Jordan Cousins]. He's the voice on the pitch, orchestrating everything, trying to run the centre of the park.

  7. 'A real mix-up at the back'published at 14:24 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-1 Walsall

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Two

It's a real mix-up at the back, nobody really deals with it. These set-plays are what Walsall are going to feed off all afternoon.

A horrible goal to concede early on.

GOAL: Eastleigh 0-1 Walsallpublished at 14:22 GMT 2 November

    Evan Weir (5 mins)

Things go from bad to worse for Eastleigh, the Saddlers are ahead!

A corner comes in from the left and flies over everyone's heads to Evan Weir at the back post and he chests the ball over the line.

It's poor defending by Eastleigh who left the Walsall player in plenty of space to push that one in.

The perfect start for the League Two leaders!

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:21 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-0 Walsall

This is not the start Eastleigh will have wanted.

They have been forced into a change after just four minutes, Jordan Cousins comes off for Kieron Evans

  10. Postpublished at 14:19 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-0 Walsall

Walsall have started well here and are enjoying most of the ball - as is probably expected.

The Saddlers whip a ball into the box from a deep set-piece and Aden Flint rises highest to head it across the box but no one is there to knock it towards goal.

  11. 'Experience should help Walsall'published at 14:17 GMT 2 November

    Eastleigh 0-0 Walsall

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Two

This is a lovely place to play, I must say. The sun's out, the pitch is looking great, but that experience will help Walsall today, you'd feel.

Eastleigh beat Reading in the FA Cup back in 2023

Eastleigh host League Two leaders Walsall at the Silverlake Stadium for this intriguing first-round tie.

This is the first-ever meeting between the two sides in the FA Cup proper and Walsall have progressed from their past four FA Cup ties against non-league opponents.

After 14 games the Saddlers have the joint-most points in League Two, and have won eight times in the league this campaign.

The Spitfires are 12th in the National League and are no strangers to upsets in the FA Cup, beating Reading here in a shock win during the 2023-24 season.

They recently parted company with ex-Southampton goalkeeping legend Kelvin Davis as boss and appointed Scott Bartlett from Weston-super-Mare.

  16. 'Shields played wonderful football but you've got to score'published at 14:07 GMT 2 November

    FT: South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury

    Paul Dixon
    BBC Radio Newcastle summariser

If we came back next week, South Shields would play exactly the same way.

The played wonderful football but it's about scoring the goals and you've got to give Shrewsbury credit.

You only get one chance in the cup and you've got to take it.

  17. 'Shrewsbury showed why they're the league team'published at 14:05 GMT 2 November

    FT: South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury

    Jamie Tolley
Former Shrewsbury player on BBC Radio Shropshire

Well done to the Shrewsbury boys this afternoon. It was a tough tie on paper and everyone predicted and anticipated a potential banana skin, but I was confident in a 3-1 victory and that's exactly what we've got.

I thought they would come in and put in a good performance and that is exactly what they did.

Hats off to South Shields. They played some really attractive football and it's really good to see that, but all in all, Shrewsbury showed why they're the league team and stamped their authority on it, and they could have had a couple more in the second half.

A good game of football which was pleasing to watch.

  18. FULL-TIMEpublished at 13:57 GMT 2 November

    South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury

Full-time on Tyneside and the League Two club progress to the second round of the FA Cup!

In truth, all Shrewsbury's hard work was done in the first-half with all of their goals coming before the break.

Anthony Scully's double and Tom Sang's goal just before the interval helped them to race three clear before Luke Woolston - on loan from Middlesbrough - grabbed a late consolation goal with a deflected effort for South Shields.

A professional performance by the Salopians.

  19. Postpublished at 13:55 GMT 2 November

    South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury

A low cross in from the right is tidily gathered by Shrewsbury keeper Will Brook.

At the other end, Mal Benning looks to get his name on the scoresheet but the ball is cleared off the line by Oliver Bainbridge - I think Benning's shot was going wide though.

Shrewsbury look to be seeing this one out comfortably.

  20. ADDITIONAL TIMEpublished at 13:52 GMT 2 November

    South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury

We will have five minutes of additional time at the end of this one.
