  3. 'Arteta has transformed Arsenal back into what they were'published at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November

    Rory Smith
Senior Writer for The Athletic, on Monday Night Club

Since 2019 when Mikel Arteta took charge, it has been a pretty steep trajectory [for Arsenal]. They have come back to the position that Arsenal have occupied since 2004 which was regularly qualifying for the Champions League, mounting title challenges - one of England's undoubted elite.

He has, in five years, transformed a club that had dipped really, really far and turned them back into what they were.

The transition for Arsenal from [Arsene] Wenger to post Wenger has not nearly been as long as the one for [Manchester] United.

Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has gone almost 12 months since scoring his last club goal for the defending Premier League champions.

December 16, 2023, was Grealish's last goal in City colours, coming against Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium.

In 2024, Grealish has played 25 matches for City in all competitions and according to Transfermarkt, has provided just three assists in that time.

Injuries have affected Grealish throughout this year, but he has played more than 1,200 minutes of club football.

Man City v Feyenoord (20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Erling Haaland has been directly involved in 49 goals in 43 appearances in the Champions League, with 44 goals and five assists. If he scores or assists against Feyenoord, he would reach 50 goal involvements in fewer appearances than any other player in the competition's history (current record is 45 games, by Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2004).

Manchester City are unbeaten in their past 33 home matches in the Champions League (W29 D4). This is the second-longest run of home matches without defeat by a team in the competition, after Barcelona's 38-match streak between September 2013 and November 2020.

  8. Guardiola not for changing despite Man City crisispublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November

Man City v Feyenoord (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says it is tough for his players to "defend a legacy" and questioned why he should change his tactics despite a run of five successive defeats.

Not since his first season at City in 2016-17, when for a long time it looked possible they would fail to qualify for the Champions League, has Guardiola's team been questioned in the way it is being now.

Scrutiny is intense on City right now, from the age of Guardiola's players and the injuries some of them have suffered, to their transfer business and the form of Erling Haaland.

Yet Guardiola is refusing to contemplate changes to his philosophy and is keen to avoid negative knee-jerk reactions over players who have won four Premier League titles in a row and an historic Treble as recently as 2023.

"What should I change?" he said. "We are big believers in the process and the fundamentals we have to do.

"I think we deserve some patience when we lose games. You are defending a legacy, tradition and success and that is so difficult to handle."

Chris Sutton says something is amiss. Is he naive? Nothing is amiss - it's just a player supported by his agent trying to get a better deal. Who knows how this will play out but nothing is amiss as Sutton says it is. It's just classic bargaining and lobbying for support.

  19. How long will Vicario be out for?published at 11:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November

A broken ankle isn't something you shake off quickly.

Tottenham haven't said how long they expect their first-choice goalkeeper to be out for, but it's likely to be more than a month.

According to @physioscout, external on 'X', a typical ankle fracture can take 6-10 weeks to recover from, but they say there's "no indication that it'd take longer than 10 weeks."

Last season, Motherwell defender Pape Souare was ruled out for four months with an ankle fracture, while Hartlepool defender Rollin Menayese missed the rest of last season after suffering an ankle fracture in January.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will be speaking to the media on Wednesday and will hopefully provide a more accurate update of Vicario's rehabilitation timeframe.

  20. Who do Tottenham have to replace Vicario?published at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November

Tottenham have three goalkeepers in their squad ready to replace Vicario.

    • Fraser Forster - At 36, the former Southampton man is the veteran of the Spurs squad and the most likely to step in to replace Vicario. He's frequently been used in the cups this season, playing twice in the Europa League and once in the EFL Cup. He's conceded four goals in those three matches.
    • Brandon Austin - If Ange Postecoglou uses Forster in the Premier League, he may well use Austin in the cups for the next few months. Austin is now 25 and came through the youth setup at Spurs. His last competitive game was for Orlando City more than three years ago.
    • Alfie Whiteman - Like Austin, Whiteman has come through Tottenham's youth system. He's 26 and spent the previous two seasons on loan at Swedish side Degarfors. Whiteman's last Tottenham appearance was four years ago to the day - in a 4-0 Europa League win over Ludogorets.

So, it's likely that Forster will get the nod initially, but Austin or Whiteman can finally have their chance to make a claim for a starting berth. But just how much will Vicario will be missed?
