  1. Hardest Geezer runs to England's first Euro gamepublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 17 June

One England fan who has already chosen to sidestep the public transport in Germany is Russell Cook, the man nicknamed "Hardest Geezer".

He made it to the first England match of Euro 2024 after running from Wembley to the stadium in Germany.

The 27-year-old, from Worthing, West Sussex, began his latest endurance test two months after running the entire length of Africa.

Cook left Wembley Stadium on 11 June in a bid to reach the city of Gelsenkirchen in western Germany in time to see England in their opening fixture against Serbia.

He posted on social media on Sunday that he had celebrated England's 1-0 win inside the Arena AufSchalke.

He filmed the crowd singing Sweet Caroline in the stadium as they celebrated England's victory, before saying: "One-nil win secured, back on road in the morning. Up the boys, come on."

  2. 'It was chaos back at Gelsenkirchen'published at 13:37 British Summer Time 17 June

    Serbia 0-1 England

    BBC Sport

BBC Sport's Holly Bacon, who was in Gelsenkirchen as a fan for Sunday's England match, said the transport system failure post-match resulted in "chaos".

"Coming out of the ground there was no signage or directions and really poor lighting," she said.

"We were still in the queue for a tram an hour-and-a-half after full-time.

"It was chaos back at Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof [main train station] too, with loads of trains delayed and confusion over platforms."

She also reported that it took her two-and-a-half hours to travel back-to-back to Mulheim, which is normally a short journey.

"I know people who got home at 4-5am after missing connections," she added. "Quite a few people staying in Wuppertal were unable to get back and had to fork out for taxis.

"It was really, really poor organisation."

Cole Palmer in trainingImage source, PA Media

Cole Palmer put in a big effort, from what we saw in that live stream of England training.

Maybe the Chelsea forward was attempting to show Gareth Southgate what the side was missing in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Serbia after he failed to make it onto the pitch.

Palmer scored 22 goals in 33 games in his debut Premier League campaign for the Blues.

Lewis Dunk in trainingImage source, PA Media

Sadly, that is all from our training stream, so we will have to presume that Cole Palmer does eventually get his way out of being in the middle!

The mood in camp is definitely positive and Lewis Dunk, in particular, had a very cheesy grin on his face throughout that session.

I am sure those who played last night are enjoying their recovery session just as much.

  10. 'A really close-knit group'published at 13:09 British Summer Time 17 June

Scotland v Switzerland (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Scotland

Scotland centre-back Grant Hanley on if nerves played a factor in their opening defeat by Germany: "These games are huge, a big occasion and everyone wants to play on those types of nights.

"So obviously there is a bit of added nerves in the atmosphere around the game.

"But no I don’t think that's something we can use as an excuse as to why we didn't perform like we wanted to on Friday.

"We have got a really close-knit group in camp and those are only the opinions that we have got to take going forward."

  11. 'I think supporters see it is a genuine side'published at 13:03 British Summer Time 17 June

Scotland v Switzerland (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Scotland

Scotland centre-back Grant Hanley on responding to critics: "I don't think we need to send a message to critics. Certainly for Scotland supporters, we feel that disappointment as well.

"I think supporters see it is a genuine side who want to give their all for the country.

"We have got a massive opportunity to be successful again."

On Switzerland's qualities: "Most if not all the lads watched the [Switzerland v Hungary] game.

"Switzerland have got some good players, some real quality in the side. I'm hoping we turn up and put on a performance like we have shown for a few years now."

On Switzerland: "We've put the result [against Germany] behind us, we're looking forward, it will be a difficult match on Wednesday.

"Switzerland are a good side with good players. The focus is mainly on ourselves and what we can do to improve and be more like a Scotland performance."

There are 12 players out on the pitch for training today which is the majority of last night’s non-playing subs plus Kobbie Mainoo.

All others - including Luke Shaw - are doing a recovery session elsewhere.

It’s a positive start for Gareth Southgate’s side who are now two points clear at the top of their group. After Denmark and Slovenia drew in their match.

There were also first tournament appearances for Jarrod Bowen, Kobbie Mainoo, Conor Gallagher and Marc Guehi in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Serbia.

  17. 'I think you'll see a much improved team'published at 12:48 British Summer Time 17 June

Scotland v Switzerland (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Darren Jackson
Former Scotland striker on Scottish Football Podcast

There's no getting away from it - that was a poor performance [from Scotland in Friday's 5-1 defeat to Germany]. The players will be hurting. They're better than that.

I think they're [Germany] a good side. The front three are just fantastic. Musiala - Musiala, Bellingham and Foden easily could be best three players in the world in a few years.

For Scotland to play well in any tournament, every player has to play well.

5-1 is indefensible. But they'll go back, they'll have worked on things. I think you'll see a much improved team. Being a lot more confident, being more aggressive.

Scotland v Switzerland (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Scotland

Scotland centre-back Grant Hanley on their opening 5-1 defeat by Germany: "Obviously we've had a couple of days. We've put [the Germany defeat] to bed.

"The manager had a couple of meetings last night to go over it and draw a line under it and look forward to the next game.

"As players we have got to look at ourselves first and look how we approach the game and perform.

"This is a group [of players] that's been together for quite a while now.

"We've had our ups and downs together, we've shown before we can bounce back from negative results."

  20. 'We hope, we believe always'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 17 June

Scotland v Switzerland (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Scotland fan Stuart told BBC Radio 5 Live this morning that he enjoyed the "meeting of cultures" when his country took on Germany on Friday, if not the result, after Steve Clarke's side suffered a 5-1 hammering:

“We turned up, we threw a fantastic party, gave the hosts the perfect opening match to show how good they are.

"We all had a good time whilst we were there. A taxi driver said that the Scotland fans were the best they’ve ever had.

"What I was looking forward to in this match was the meeting of cultures and two fan bases which I thought would get on very well and that certainly ended up being the case

"The performance was absolutely awful. Scotland didn’t turn up at all. They need to change a lot for the next game. Obviously the quality of opposition will be less and that will be very, very important for us

"We're Scotland fans, we hope, we believe always.”
