  4. 'Impressed with Villa'published at 13:10 British Summer Time

HT: Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Steph Houghton
Former Manchester City defender on BBC Two

I've been really impressed with Aston Villa.

City have been dominant with the ball but I think the way Villa have set up in terms of organisation, knowing when to play the ball forward and trying to catch City on the break, I think they've had a really good performance in this first half.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

Aston Villa remain ahead at half-time despite City's dominance with the ball and chances.

For everything City have had going forward in terms of chances, it is Villa who have been the clinical of the two sides.

Gabi Nunes' clever finish is the difference so far.

  6. 'Hemp involved in everything good for City so far'published at 13:03 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

Again it's Lauren Hemp who is involved. She has been involved in everything good for Manchester City so far today.

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

Another good chance for Jill Rood, getting into Aston Villa's penalty area.

Played inside by Lauren Hemp, Rood advances and pokes a low shot at goal, kept out by Sabrina D'Angelo.

  8. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

Two minutes added on for City to equalise in the first half.

  9. 'Defensively, Aston Villa have been superb so far'published at 13:00 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

You've got Katie Robinson and Kirsty Hanson in your two wide areas, they're both more attack-minded players but today they've been asked to do defensive jobs and they've done it really well.

Defensively, Aston Villa have been superb so far.

  10. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

So far, Manchester City have had five shots to Aston Villa's one, chances for Khadija Shaw and Jill Roord were probably easier to take than the goal scored by Gabi Nunes.

City also fell behind in the Women's Champions League in midweek, but did come from behind to beat St Polten.

A similar turnaround is needed this afternoon.

  11. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

Referee Kirsty Dowle is letting plenty of challenges and 50-50s play out in this match, making it quite a physical affair.

Little to report in chances since Roord's opportunity to level and Villa's advantage remains.

Here is how Gabi Nunes put Aston Villa ahead in this match, some way to get your first WSL goal.

  13. 'Roord just couldn't stretch far enough'published at 12:50 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

Jill Roord just couldn't stretch far enough - a studs-width away from that nestling in the bottom corner of the net.

  14. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    That should be 1-1.

A superb ball from the right side by Lauren Hemp, it had in-swing and put Jill Roord in on goal from six yards out.

Roord was on the stretch and was unable to get a clean connection on it. If she did, Sabrina D'Angelo would have struggled to keep Roord out from such close proximity.

    Wide it goes. Big chance.

  15. 'City haven't tried to test the goalkeeper from any kind of distance'published at 12:48 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

I know we've mentioned the wind, Manchester City haven't tried to test the goalkeeper from any kind of distance with any kind of shots.

If you unleash one from distance it's going to move and it's going be very difficult - at the moment they haven't done that.

  16. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

To those just tuning in, the scoreline, really does not explain how this match has panned out in terms of possession and chances.

City are continuing to have all of the ball.

For now at least, Villa do not mind one bit.

  17. 'It's working for Villa at the moment'published at 12:45 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

We've not even played half an hour yet and Aston Villa are camped deep within their half.

It's working for them at the moment but it's going to be a long remainder of this match if they have to stay so compact, so deep.

  18. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

City go short with the corner but do not make it count, not for the first time in this match.

Time to start getting a few more crosses into the box?

  19. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

Lauren Hemp has created a number of chances more than any other player in the WSL so far this season.

Her creativity wins City a corner, a low cross from the left poked out of danger.

For now at least, City's chances of getting back into this game feel like a responsibility Hemp has taken on her shoulders.

  20. 'What Shaw needs more of'published at 12:41 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-1 Aston Villa

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two

That's what Bunny Shaw needs more of. She needs more deliveries from those wide areas.

We're used to seeing it from Lauren Hemp.
