Ben Brookes' goal proved to be the difference as York beat Hartlepool 2-1 in the National League.
York took the lead in the 25th minute when Alex Newby stabbed home and they almost had a second three minutes later, but Ollie Pearce smashed a penalty over the crossbar.
The Minstermen doubled their lead in the 86th minute when substitute Brookes hit a first-time finish from Ollie Banks' cross.
Pools then threatened to comeback when Vadaine Oliver smashed home into the bottom corner only two minutes later, but York held on to earn their sixth league win of the campaign.
