All this clamour from Arsenal fans to sign players immediately is a bit much. They aren't in the Club World Cup, they've already sealed Zubimendi and Kepa seems like a done deal. They seemingly have a choice between two very good strikers (one more established in a poor defensive league and cheaper, one with very high potential in a better league and a higher price). That's not a bad dilemma. We have until end of August so no need to slate the board or Arteta just yet.

  3. Would Grealish work for Arsenal?published at 15:26 British Summer Time

England international Raheem Sterling spent last season on loan at Arsenal and is the highest-paid player on Chelsea's books on his £300,000-a-week wage.

The loan failed to work out as Sterling scored only once last season.

However, his situation is similar to Grealish, with a big wage making it hard to get a permanent move after falling out of favour.

Sterling, who like Grealish plays on the left-hand side of a front three, joined the Gunners as a 29-year-old - the same age Grealish is currently.

A direct replacement is likely needed for Sterling, but with that transfer failing, could that put Mikel Arteta off someone in a position where cover is needed for Gabriel Martinelli?

Or is Grealish worth a punt on loan?

One big achievement already at Arsenal is re-signing Gabriel. Don't underestimate the importance of the big man at the back. Keeping him at the club was vital.

  5. What was Grealish's best Premier League season?published at 15:21 British Summer Time

    Manchester City

While Jack Grealish struggled last campaign to the extent that his Manchester City career appears to be over, he has had more fruitful campaigns in the top flight.

His best season since moving to City for £100 million came in 2022-23, when he scored five goals and provided seven assists across 28 league matches.

Grealish was an important player that season, playing more than 2,000 minutes in the Premier League, and helped drive City to win the treble - the only English side to do so in the 21st century.

Before that, he convinced City to splash out with two strong campaigns for Aston Villa which helped establish his boyhood club back in the Premier League following promotion in 2019.

Between 2019 and 2021, Grealish scored 14 goals and provided 18 assists in 62 matches for Villa.

Food for thought for any club considering a move - which may or may not include Arsenal...

Re Nick at 1440: Conversely, it shows that Arteta has spent just shy of HALF A BILLION POUNDS in five years and still can't achieve more than second place. But why let a level-headed take like that get in the way, eh?

I was excited to see Gyokeres when I went with some mates to see Sporting at home a couple of months ago against a bottom of the league Portuguese club. He was slow, lazy, inaccurate and underwhelming all round - Sesko for me every day. G has Coventry experience and the Prem would eat him up.

  9. No formal offers for Grealishpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time

    BBC Sport football news reporter

As of Friday, Manchester City had not received any formal offers for out-of-favour midfielder Jack Grealish.

England international Grealish's club future is in doubt after he was left out of City's squad for the last Premier League game of the campaign at Fulham, as well as the Club World Cup in the United States.

The 29-year-old joined on a six-year deal from Aston Villa in 2021, costing £100m, and his reported weekly wages of £300,000 could deter potential suitors.

Being left out of the Club World Cup squad suggests the two parties look like going their separate ways this summer, though who will be able to afford to take on such a big earner?

Nunez was always an agent of pure random chaos, his playstyle meant that better organised defences in England stifled him. Gyokeres' game is movement, pace, and positioning, it will translate much better to the Premier League. He's also played in the Championship successfully. Whoever gets him will have done exceptional business!

One players who is looking increasingly likely to be heading for the exit doors this summer is Jack Grealish.

The Manchester City midfielder has been left out of the Club World Cup squad by Pep Guardiola, and there were suggestions on this live page, from Rob, that Arsenal should take a look at Grealish.

The number of thumbs down on Rob's message suggests Arsenal fans are not very keen on that idea, but makes us wonder, will he be a good fit at the Emirates rather than the Etihad?

I think clubs are being hesitant on paying big money for Gyokores after seeing how Nunez has performed in the Premier League. He was banging in the goals for Benfica and even Liverpool fans will admit he has struggled badly.

Benjamin Sesko is a long-term target and was close to joining Arsenal last summer.

Arsenal enquired again in January, but the German club were adamant they had no intention of selling and the Gunners did not want to antagonise them before a potential negotiation this summer.

Slovenia international Sesko has scored 26 goals this season - already an improvement on the 23 he hit last year. At 22, he fits the ideal age profile for Arsenal in terms of financial and technical growth.

But the appointment of new sporting director Andrea Berta has resulted in Viktor Gyokeres' stock rising, with sources indicating there is considerable internal backing for a move for the Swede, despite much of the groundwork having been completed on a deal for Sesko.

  14. 'Arsenal have always needed a striker'published at 14:44 British Summer Time

    David Seaman
Former Arsenal and England goalkeeper on BBC 5 Live

We have always needed a striker. We tried in the winter transfer window and now hopefully there is one lined up in the summer, but that will be a bit too late.

It will be the final piece of the jigsaw. That will hopefully be what makes it (winning the title) happen next season.

Re: 14:16 This shows that Arsenal are on average the 5th/6th highest spenders. Arteta has Arsenal punching above their weight consistently - yet he/Arsenal are widely mocked. Level-headed takes don't get the clicks I guess! And then people wonder why Arsenal fans have a siege mentality...

  18. Have Arsenal kicked on since Edu's departure?published at 14:29 British Summer Time

'We are in an incredible moment' - Arteta

In November, manager Mikel Arteta insisted Arsenal's "very ambitious" vision will continue despite the exit of Edu as the club's sporting director.

Edu, who was widely credited with helping to transform the club back into genuine title challengers, resigned from his role at the start of November.

The former midfielder was heavily involved in bringing manager Mikel Arteta to the club, with Arsenal winning the FA Cup at the end of Arteta's first season in charge.

Captain Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Gabriel, Gabriel Jesus and Declan Rice have all arrived and become key players during Edu's tenure.

In January, Arteta's first transfer window without Edu resulted in a failure to make any signings, will the first summer without Edu bring more success?

It's hard to say which signing will have the biggest impact this season. While more expectation will be placed on Wirtz than on Cunha or Cherki, Liverpool will need to at least win the league again. Whereas Manchester City and Manchester United only really need to show improvement.
