Bukayo Saka is my favourite player, he's been there for so long and he's so nice. I never thought he would reach the levels we are seeing.

He's a starter for Arsenal, he's a starter for England. I remember when he started he was playing wing-back and the evolution of his game has been outstanding.

  2. The numbers behind Saka's risepublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time

    Arsenal 3-0 Monaco

BukayoSaka's development since making his European debut - in the Europa League - as a 17-year-old in 2018 has been extraordinary.

Now 23, he has played in seven Champions League games at the Emirates Stadium, scoring seven times and providing four assists.

Since the start of last season, only Harry Kane (18), Vinicius Jr (16) and Antoine Griezmann (13) have been involved in more Champions League goals than Saka (8 goals and six assists).

In that same period he has both scored and assisted in a single Champions League game on five occasions, more than any other player.

This season, Mohamed Salah is the only Premier League player with more goal involvements (28) than Saka (21) in all competitions.

More from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta: "Very happy. Obviously scoring the three goals, keeping a clean sheet and winning the game.

"We started the game very well, in the first half we should have put the game to bed but we didn't. In the Champions League you will have difficult moments and we suffered but then with the second goal, the game was in control."

On scoring three goals from open play: "Very good, especially because they were very different goals. That's what we want, from every phase of play to be a threat. We could have scored many goals from open play but, anyway, very happy."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports about Bukayo Saka: "He looks really mature. What he has already done in the game at his age is incredible. Very humble, a great guy to have around and an incredible talent.

"He's a special person. In his role, his leadership is increasing. With the young kids he is amazing, with the seniors he is amazing. He is loved by everybody and he makes the difference on the pitch."

  6. Poll: Where will Man City finish in the league phase?published at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time

It seems unthinkable that the 2023 Champions League winners could be eliminated after the first phase of this season's competition, but that is now a very real prospect following Wednesday night's defeat for Manchester City at Juventus.

They now face a tricky tie at Paris St-Germain, who are also scrapping for their survival in the competition.

Pep Guardiola's Premier League champions then finish with a home match against Club Brugge, who could also need a positive result in their final game to make it into the knockout stages.

So the question is, where will City finish in the league - top eight, ninth to 24th or bottom 12?

Make your choice in the poll at the top of this page...

The biggest worry is, you keep on playing like this then there is a chance you don't get through.

With two games [to go] they should still be able to do it.

But the saddest thing about Manchester City is 'are you really shocked?' I'm not completely shocked.

RE Man City. It can’t all be down to missing Rodri. Are the players fed up of Pep? Have they realised that some of the charges are going to stick and could be demoted?

  9. Where are Arsenal in the Champions League table?published at 08:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    Arsenal 3-0 Monaco

Arsenal's victory over Monaco moved them up to third in the Champions League table.

One more point from their final two games would now ensure the Gunners are safe from elimination while two wins from two games will guarantee them a top eight finish.

Mikel Arteta's side face Dinamo Zagreb (24th) at home and Girona (30th) away in January to round off the league phase.

Arsenal looked good yesterday, scoring 3 from open play rather than set pieces. Some young players bought in, I thought Lewis-Skelly was great. Clean sheet with a makeshift defence. Overall happy with how last night went. As much as I love Jesus, I do think he needs moving on in January though, he just isn’t clinical enough in front of goal.

Bukayo Saka's two goals and assist against Monaco took his 2024-25 season tally to nine goals and 12 assists in all competitions in just 21 appearances.

He is already just two assists behind matching his total for the 2023-24 campaign, while he has already surpassed the number he put up in 2022-23 and 2021-22.

His best goal tally to date came last season where he found the net 20 times in all competitions but on current pace he is set to break that record.

Bukayo Saka scored twice as Arsenal beat Monaco to strengthen their position as one of the sides likely to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Gunners were well on top in the first half, but missed a number of chances to make the outcome even more comfortable.

Arsenal took the lead in the 34th minute after Myles Lewis–Skelly played in Gabriel Jesus and the Brazilian crossed for Saka to tap in.

Substitute Kai Havertz then forced a mistake from keeper Radoslaw Majecki in the 74th minute and Saka steered in from close range.

Arsenal moved up to third in the table on 13 points and are in a strong position going into their final two group stage games.

They host Dinamo Zagreb next on 22 January before visiting Girona a week later.

I think we are still going to be surprised given what they have done in recent years.

They have been a formidable team, they won four Premier Leagues on the bounce, they have a history of being very successful.

But we just have not seen a Pep Guardiola side in general ever be this bad. He has to find a way of galvanising this team and reinstalling some form and confidence.

They are under real pressure now.

  18. How it looks for Man City in the Champions Leaguepublished at 07:42 Greenwich Mean Time

    Juventus 2-0 Man City

Any side finishing below 24th place will be eliminated from the Champions League.

Manchester City are just one point above Paris St-Germain in 25th and must go to the French giants on 22 January in what will likely be a crucial fixture.

After that they do have a winnable home game against Club Brugge, although a poor result against PSG would leave them under pressure going into that game.

With one win in 10 games in all competitions, Manchester City are going through one of their toughest periods in recent history.

Wednesday's Champions League loss to Juventus was their seventh defeat during that run and leaves them in a battle to ensure they are not eliminated before the knockouts.

The concern against Juventus is just how little City looked like their old selves. They dominated possession but struggled to create much in the final third, while defensive lapses proved their undoing.

They will likely progress to the two-legged play-off at least, although they have a tough away trip to PSG in their next league phase game they finish this stage with a home tie against Club Brugge.

But City are used to being practically home and dry by this stage of the Champions League. For them and Pep Guardiola it is unfamiliar territory.

  20. Juventus made Man City 'predictable' - Onuohapublished at 07:28 Greenwich Mean Time

    Juventus 2-0 Man City

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Juventus did their best to make Manchester City as predictable as possible.

You have to give credit to that Juventus side and the system they play.

They looked ready for this game and arguably looked more ready than Manchester City.
