This game could not be more imbalanced in terms of importance and significance.

While the Baggies seek that little burst of pace to reassert themselves in the top-six, Rotherham's race has been run for a while now, and relegation last week was little surprise to anyone in that portion of South Yorkshire.

Now their fate is sealed, do they throw off the shackles of fear and go for it?

For those who have been watching this fifth-placed scenario unfold over recent weeks, there was one moment of panic last night when Norwich led 2-0 at Hillsborough and would have climbed above them had they held on.

But the Owls hit back to level, Albion's vice-like grip on fifth was restored. And now it surely time to start leafing through the record books to see if any team in football history, other than at the top or bottom of a league, has ever enjoyed such a stranglehold on one position.

It would take weeks of statistical research to find out. More than is available in a BBC leave year. So I'm prepared to stick my neck out say it is a record. ln the confident knowledge that somebody out there will already actually know!

Peterborough and Wycombe delivered the ultimate Wembley cup final on Sunday as they met in the EFL Trophy showpiece, but they'll have to lift their weary limbs again tonight as time waits for no-one at this stage of the season.

The Posh came out on top, and while the celebrations will have been lively, they've had to put the champagne flutes away and crack back on with promotion ambitions as they take on relegation-threatened Port Vale.

No time for hangovers, as the Valiants will be desperate.

Derby meanwhile have their own automatic promotion ambitions to look after, and victory would be most welcome.

Their opponents lost under the arch on Sunday, despite a late Dale Taylor goal, and need to get back on the horse if they're to avoid being Ram-raided by their high-flying visitors.

A 0-0 might not be the dream result, but Blackburn’s draw with Southampton on the weekend – after their 5-1 thumping of Sunderland – was another sign in their fight to avoid relegation.

A win and another three points tonight would ease Rovers fans’ fears further, with the club currently sat in 18th just three points above the drop zone.

Blackburn’s away form has been a problem this season though and their win against the Black Cats was their first win on the road since the start of December.

They travel to a Bristol City – a side on a decent run having taken 10 points from their last five games – looking to end the campaign on a high despite having little left in the league to play for.

  6. The story of the Bluespublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 10 April

    Birmingham v Cardiff (19:45 BST)

If there's any song off the playlist at the longwinded-named home of Birmingham City right now, it's the excellent 'Story of the Blues' by Wah!

"They take your pride," is how most fans must feel after a disastrous season on the field lurches toward a nightmarish finish. Walking past murals like the one above only highlights the glory days feeling far away more than ever.

From the optimism of the takeover by Shelby Companies Limited to finding themselves in the relegation zone with five games to play... it's been some decline.

Even chairman Tom Wagner this week said sacking John Eustace with the Blues sixth in the table was a decision that "wasn't perfect". Since then, Wayne Rooney came and left, Tony Mowbray came and has had to step aside to deal with a medical issue, and Gary Rowett is currently in the hot-seat.

He has to get it right.

One of those chances is tonight against Cardiff, who are treading water in the safe but not particularly sweet spot of mid-table.

Erol Bulut's side have flirted with the play-offs at times this term and there's nowt like a strong finish to the season to spark the odd floating voter to part company with cash for season tickets on a late surge of form.

Bulut himself doesn't quite know his future, but good performances and results will only help his cause wherever he ends up.

Don't count on any sympathetic favours from South Wales tonight.

  7. Ipswich looking to bounce back to the toppublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 10 April

With Leicester and Leeds dropping points on Tuesday night, Ipswich have the chance to leapfrog both sides and jump back to the top of the table.

The Tractor Boys fell to a dispiriting defeat by rivals Norwich last Saturday, although very much still have automatic promotion within their hands.

They also have their imperious home form give them a boost – if they needed one this evening – and could equal their 19-game unbeaten run set between March 2007 and January 2008 if they avoid defeat tonight.

Watford have drawn their last three games and won only two of their last 14, although have performed well strongly away from home – winning six and drawing two of their 10 matches since the start of December.

How do then. Our team are primed and ready for tonight's action.

Let's have a look at the 19:45 BST kick-offs, and we'll feed through the other previews after they're underway in those earlier games.

  9. Delayed kick-offpublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 10 April

    Hull v Middlesbrough (20:00 BST)

Just confirmation by the way, Hull City's game with Middlesbrough has been delayed by the traffic issues coming into the city.

It often stacks up on the Clive Sullivan Way, named of course after the Welsh rugby league legend and former Great Britain captain who links both sides of the city from his time at Hull FC and Hull KR.

And that takes some doing, fusing black and white and red and white.

Anyway, it's black and amber tonight, and kick off now at 20:00 BST.
