Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last five league games against Brentford (W3 D2), all in the Championship. Their most recent meeting was a 3-2 win for the Blades in March 2019.
This is the third top-flight game between Sheffield United and Brentford – the previous two were played on consecutive days in the 1946-47 season, a 6-1 Blades win on Christmas Day and 2-1 Bees win on Boxing Day.
Brentford have won each of their last five Premier League games against newly promoted sides, although all five have come at home. Since they first joined the Football League, the Bees have never won six in a row against promoted sides in any league division.
London sides have won each of their last six Premier League away games against Sheffield United, having won just three of their first 24 such visits to Bramall Lane beforehand (D6 L15).
Among the 40 sides to play 100+ games at the traditional Saturday 3pm kick-off time in the Premier League, Sheffield United have the lowest points-per-game record in this slot (1.01 – P105 W26 D28 L51).
Since three points for a win was introduced into English top-flight football in 1981-82, there have only been four instances of a side having five or fewer points in the first 15 games of a season and Sheffield United account for three of those: in 1990-91 (4 points), 2020-21 (2 points) and this season (5 points). The other was Sunderland in 2005-06 (5 points).
Brentford have lost three of their last four Premier League matches (W1), as many as in their previous 14 games (W7 D4 L3). They’ve lost two games when scoring first this season, more than in their first two seasons combined (1).
New Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has never lost in four previous league meetings with Brentford (W3 D1). In his Football League/Premier League managerial career, he has only faced AFC Wimbledon (12), Mansfield (6) and Stoke (6) more times in league games without losing.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo scored a penalty in their 2-1 defeat to Brighton last time out, their 16th successful penalty attempt from 17 taken in the Premier League (94%). In Premier League history, among teams to take five or more, only Swansea City have a higher ratio of penalties scored (20/21, 95%).
Among goalkeepers to play at least 500 minutes in Premier League history, only Marcus Bettinelli (one every 32 minutes) has conceded a goal at a more frequent rate than Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham (one every 33 mins, 41 in 1,350 minutes). He is yet to keep a clean sheet in 15 appearances, with only Gavin Ward (17 matches) playing more without a shutout in the competition.
