Anis Mehmeti scored twice and claimed an assist as Bristol City convincingly beat Plymouth Argyle in the Championship.
All the goals came in the second half as Mehmeti initially helped to open the scoring, with his deflected shot running into the net off team-mate Scott Twine.
Mehmeti then continued to cause problems for the Argyle defence, going on to score twice in a game where the Robins dominated both possession and chances.
Sinclair Armstrong came off the bench to make it four in the final moments of normal time to wrap up the three points.
The win pushes Bristol City one position higher to 11th in the table while Argyle drop down one place to 21st, two points above the relegation zone.
The Robins started the game well with some big chances for Nahki Wells and Zak Vyner but neither were able to steer their efforts on target.
Just after the half-hour mark Argyle keeper Daniel Grimshaw was called into action and made three consecutive saves to deny the Robins.
The home side thought they had taken the lead just before the break as Mehmeti's strike was saved by Grimshaw, with Wells following up to slot the ball home only for the flag to be raised for offside.
It was a strong first half by Bristol City, dominating the possession with 71% of the ball and 13 shots compared with Plymouth's one, but the game was still goalless.
The attacking onslaught by the Robins continued in the second half, Plymouth keeper Grimshaw denying Luke McNally and Mehmeti within five minutes of the restart.
After 17 shots Bristol City finally found the back of the net with their 18th, Mehmeti’s goalbound effort deflecting in off Twine and past Grimshaw in the 57th minute.
Minutes later the home scored another through Mehmeti, who cut infield and found the bottom right-hand corner from the left side of the box with a low effort.
The goals continued to flow and Mehmeti was there again to add the third, firing a powerful effort into the net for his sixth goal of the season.
Substitute Armstrong came on to make it four and seal an impressive win for Liam Manning's side, the forward racing clear of the Argyle defence before slotting past Grimshaw.
'It's a big embarrassment' - reaction
Bristol City boss Liam Manning told BBC Radio Bristol:
"In the second half you could feel the relief when we finally scored the first one.
"Credit to the lads for sticking at it, staying calm and not panicking. It epitomises the culture we have here, it's all about turning up and putting the work in every single day.
"I'm really pleased for Anis [Mehmeti] - he's so driven and I love how I can be honest and tough on him but he then will go and do his best to make it happen.
"I'm delighted he got his goals, it's great we had everyone chip in today though, we need everyone to turn up and contribute and today was a good example of that."
Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney told BBC Radio Devon:
"It's a big embarrassment.
"I thought we did OK in the first half and then in the second I could feel them coming at us a bit more and I made changes to try and help us with that.
"But after we conceded the first goal the players collapsed. This is something I have told the players. It was the same at Norwich away and Leeds away.
"When you want to have a career in football you have to dig deep at times. I feel the players showed a lack of character and fight after we conceded the first goal and that was really disappointing."
