The end of a long day and we now know three of the four sides in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals.

After St Mirren's win over Kilmarnock last night, Motherwell were next into the draw after a narrow win poured more misery on Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin and you can read George O'Neill's match report.

Rangers followed them after Nicolas Raskin's return to side inspired a win over Hibs and eased pressure on head coach Russell Martin, as Martin Dowden explains.

Meanwhile, Dundee secured their first Premiership win of the season in a five-goal thriller against Livingston.

And St Johnstone end the weekend further ahead in the Championship after draws for Raith Rovers and Arbroath.

Russell Martin is asked about Rangers' poor form before tonight's victory and again mentions the amount of new signings he is trying to build a team around.

"It was never going to be easy," he says when asked about turning things round amid fan calls for him to be sacked. "We should have been better than we are and have been, but hopefully today they would have enjoyed the way we did it.

"I enjoyed the performance. It looked way more like the way I hope we are going to be.

"I thought the fans were brilliant and I hope that, in time, they feel differently about me than they do now."

Russell Martin was asked about Nicolas Raskin's man of the match return after being sidelined previously.

"All you ask for as a player or a coach is a relationship based on honesty and sometimes it's not always going to be liked, but I think we have a good, respectful working relationship," Rangers' head coach tells BBC Scotland.

"I think I gave him a role today that really suits him and freed him up a little bit and I think he was fantastic."

Asked if he regretted leaving him out in the previous two games, Martin adds: "You have to make a decision as a coach that you think is best for the team at the time.

"Circumstances and situations very often happen within clubs that can't come out.

"It might be a necessary part of Nico's growth or our growth as a team and today was part of a team that was so together, so committed and so brave to take the ball and I thought he was outstanding.

"So he needs to kick on from here."

Hibs head coach David Gray tells Premier Sports: "I said before the game we would need to be near our best and I don't think we were.

"We lose a poor goal at a set-piece, that's not good enough. Boyle's chance straight after that to go to 1-1 is a big moment.

"Over the course of the whole game, the best team has gone through unfortunately for us.

"Goals change games and then second half we didn't carry enough of a threat.

"I've got a really good group, a really disappointed group in there, but we're creating enough chances to win games."

Russell Martin has also now been speaking to BBC Scotland.

"I think I enjoyed it more than any other game this season - maybe the Plzen one," Rangers' head coach says.

"Just really pleased, really grateful. The players and the staff stuck together this week.

"Not easy circumstances, but it was a really good performance - a lot of good stuff against a good team and maybe could have scored a couple more."

I don't think there was ever a doubt from people who know him that you'd get the right reaction.

He's gone from sitting in the stands to the starting line-up and you can see why. He bossed the game today in terms of the energy required.

It took Nico's header to take the nerves away from the team.

What's happened within the bowels of Rangers, we're not privy to the details, but what fallout there might have been, you have to find a way as a manager to resolve it and do the best thing for the team.

Nico showed today that he's a big player for Rangers.

Rangers head coach Russell Martin is full of praise at the way Nicolas Raskin has responded to being left out of the team previously.

"The role he played today really suits him," he tells Premier Sports. "Really pleased with Nico.

"It was maybe a necessary thing to happen for myself and Nico's growth. I hope we can move forward and really build on this."

Nico Raskin tells Premier Sports: "It gives a big belief for everyone. We worked hard in the week and just happy to put it on the pitch and have the win."

Pleased to be back? "Yes, finally."

Asked about being out of the team previously, Raskin adds: "It's in the past now. We have to look forward and build on that. Everything hasn't been perfect. I didn't enjoy parts of it, the manager didn't enjoy parts of it.

"Now we have had a good chat and hopefully we can work together and have a good spell together.

"We are an emotional club and an emotional team team. I just want to win and give back to the fans. The support I had was amazing and for someone not born here it feels amazing and I try to give everything for my teammates and fans.

"It's not about me or the manager. It's about the club and how we move forwards, how we win games. The season is still very long, we have loads to play for. We have to keep our heads down, work hard in training and hopefully keep winning games."

Nicolas Raskin has been asked about the situation that led to him being sidelined by Russell Martin.

The midfielder, back in the side and scorer of the opening goal against Hibs, says whatever problem there was between himself and the head coach is in the past and he just wants to look forward.

It's a difficult game for Russell Martin and the team - demonstrations before the game, apprehension in the stadium.

When they got the second, they were comfortable. Hibs looked a bit lethargic and Rangers adjusted how they defended at times.

It's a big relief for Martin and his players.

This win marked some welcome and much-needed relief for Russell Martin.

The irony of Nicolas Raskin being the major driver of that is lost on few given the recent fall-out between the two.

When replaced, Raskin was given a standing ovation and a warm handshake from his head coach.

The atmosphere in the stadium change significantly as this unfolded. However, you wonder if a majority have made up their minds that changed is required no matter.
