Chelsea have won five of their last seven Premier League games against Sheffield United, with both exceptions coming in the 2019-20 campaign (2-2 home, 0-3 away).
Sheffield United haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 29 away league games against Chelsea (64 goals conceded), since a goalless draw in October 1922.
Yorkshire teams are winless in their last 19 Premier League away games against Chelsea (D4 L15), since Leeds United’s 2-0 victory in December 1999.
Chelsea have lost their last two Premier League games, going down 2-1 at Manchester United and 2-0 at Everton. They last lost more consecutively in April/May last season (4), while manager Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t lost three in a row in the competition since December 2013 with Southampton.
Of the 17 ever-present teams in the Premier League in 2023, Chelsea have earned the joint-fewest points (39, excluding Everton’s deduction) and won the joint-fewest games (9). Meanwhile, only Bournemouth (19) have lost more Premier League games this calendar year than the Blues (18).
Sheffield United earned their second win and first clean sheet of the Premier League season against Brentford last time out. They last won consecutive top-flight games in July 2020 in Chris Wilder’s previous stint in charge, with the second game in that run coming against Chelsea.
Sheffield United are the only team without an away win in the Premier League so far this season (D1 L6). The Blades have also scored fewer (4) and conceded the joint most (20) away goals in the top-flight this term.
Sheffield United’s next goal will be their 200th in the Premier League. With 199 goals in 214 games so far, their goal-per-game ratio of 0.93 is the lowest of all teams to have played in at least three campaigns in the competition.
Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling has been involved in 19 goals in his last 18 Premier League appearances against promoted sides, scoring 15 and assisting four. Three of his five league goals this season (60%) have come against such clubs (2 vs Luton, 1 vs Burnley).
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has won 36 of his 42 Premier League games against promoted sides (D4 L2), the best win rate by any manager to have taken charge of at least 10 such games (85.7%). His only two defeats came in home games – 0-1 v Cardiff with Southampton in April 2014, and 1-3 v Wolves with Tottenham in December 2018.
