Aberdeen’s bid to finish best of the rest fell foul of the SWPL’s trojan horse as Spartans scooped all three points at Ainslie Park.

Clint Lancaster’s gave him a spirited send-off in his final game in charge of the Dons, pressing forward and rattling the crossbar early on.

Aberdeen skipper Hannah Stewart gave the visitors the lead on the stroke of half-time, hitting a sweetly lifted shot over the Spartans keeper into the top corner.

Spartans could have equalised early into the second half, the ball hitting the crossbar behind the Dons keeper and bouncing off the line out into safety, but the visitors managed to find the net just before the half-hour mark.

Simone McMahon tapped home from close range to level the scores, and with ten minutes to go Spartans made it two, Mya Bates completing the comeback from the hosts.
