Rangers saw their title hopes dashed at the last moment despite a high-octane performance against Partick Thistle.
Jo Potter’s side flew out the traps at Broadwood – knowing the destination of the title was not wholly in their own hands – and took just 12 minutes to open the scoring.
Tessel Middag’s well-executed ball over the top of the Thistle defence put Kirsty Howat through, and her finish squeezed through Ava Edison’s outstretched hands to give Rangers an early lead.
The Dutch international turned scorer on the half-hour mark, blasting home on the half-volley, before the hosts wrapped up the first half with a second from Howat, stretching to reach Lizzie Arnot’s cross.
Liv McLoughlin’s drilled shot on the hour mark made it four as Rangers took their foot off the gas in the second half – at that point thinking their work had been done.
Brian Graham's side looked to take advantage and push forward, but Rangers' back line held fast.
But as the game wrapped up in the Cumbernauld sun, news filtered through from Celtic Park that their rivals had scored late on, ending Rangers’ hopes of securing their second title in three years.
