Lots has been said about the quality of football at the Euros, but you don’t watch the Euros for quality, if you want that then watch the Champions League. You watch the Euros because it’s meaningful and passionate. You get to see nations like Georgia and Turkey have amazing performances, and maybe we get to see the underdog win tonight. C’mon England!

A few months ago, my friends and I planned a holiday in Greece. We were supposed to leave today, but I had a feeling about the Euros final and had faith that England would make it. So, I took a gamble and booked my tickets for Monday morning instead. The lads weren't happy and laughed at my decision. Well, who's laughing now? I'll see them tomorrow with a big grin on my face - let's go England!

Euro 2024: England's rollercoaster ride to the final

My lifetime ambition as a player was always to win a major tournament with England. We got very close, but it did not quite happen.

Now it is the same in broadcasting. I have always wanted to utter those words and say an England's men's team has won a World Cup or European Championship - and I am hoping Sunday is the day it finally happens.

It is going to be tough, of course. They are playing a very good Spain team with a couple of real superstars and one emerging phenomenon, but I still feel like they've got a good chance.

England went very close at the last Euros - losing a final on penalties is as close as you can get without winning - and that experience will help them now. Since then, I have been saying that this team will do it and win something, and I still believe that.

If it is not on Sunday night then it might be in two years, or four, or six... but it will happen because this England side is only going to get better and, if you keep banging on the door, eventually it will open.

I don't want to wait, though. I just hope it happens on Sunday.

It really feels like the last episode of a perfect series that we’ve all watched. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried. We love all the characters. We learned something about ourselves. There’s been twists. And both finalists can win it. You just don’t know how the episode will finish.

It really feels like a brilliant adventure of a group of players have faced with bravery and fear and uncertainty of the game. Whatever happens, happens.

There was belief from the beginning in the England squad that the team had the potential to go far in the tournament.

In fact, their in-house game of ‘The Traitors’, based on the BBC programme, which involved 36 members of players and backroom staff could only be finished once the squad had reached the latter stages of the competition.

The squad took it seriously, with debates about who was a 'wolf' or 'traitor' taking place around a firepit area in the team's hotel.

There were eight 'traitors' in the group, and those who were culled by the traitors were told when a letter was pushed under their door, with it printed and written in a style similar to the popular game show.

The squad's finale was made even more special when they received a video message from presenter Claudia Winkleman.

Former England striker Ellen White on Gareth Southgate's use of substitutes: "We saw that with Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney, they have had to be patient. They both start for their clubs, I can believe it is frustrating to have to watch. They have been patient, the impact they have made has been phenomenal. He [Southgate] has got great options and has used them - it's all in his plan and he has made them [subs] at the right time. They have always found a way to win."

On the choice between Luke Shaw and Kieran Trippier at left back: "I think he will start Trippier, he hasn't done anything wrong, he has been one of the most consistent performers. I think Southgate will be loyal to the system."

Her prediction for the match: "I think maybe extra time, then we win 2-1."

Gareth Southgate and his players now have the chance to change the narrative forever and there has been a genuine sense of history in the making as England supporters flooded into Berlin, with many making their way to the vast bowl to the west of the city more than 24 hours before kick-off.

England, under Southgate, are in a second successive European Championship final and hoping to erase the bitter memories of their defeat on penalties by Italy at Euro 2020.

That was a desperate occasion on every level, not simply because of the loss, but also because England's hope of emerging from the post-Covid era with a landmark victory was overshadowed by events away from the game.

What could have been a joyous day was scarred by crowd violence, poor organisation, mass disorder at Wembley as well as in London, then the bleak shadow of racist abuse aimed in the direction of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after they missed in the penalty shootout.

Emotions are in sharp contrast as Euro 2024 draws to its conclusion. There is a rediscovered sense of purpose and unity about Southgate's squad. The fractures with fans, seen in the beer cups and abuse aimed at the manager and players after the draw with Slovenia, have healed.

Yet no senior England football team has won a final on foreign soil. Is this finally the time?

Our news colleagues were sent to the street of South Gate in Sleaford to find out what the locals were saying. Not everyone on South Gate is a Southgate fan but Paul Sanders is.

He said: “I think we are sometimes a little too critical. I think he’s done a really good job.

“The England team is criticised far too much, our expectations are too much. We are very good in this country at pulling people down.

"I listen to Radio 5 Live in a morning and at the beginning of the week we were all criticising him and at the end of the week we all love him.

“Spain are the best team without a doubt but from the word go I thought England would win this competition and with a bit of luck I think we can still win it. Our hero this time will be Phil Foden.”
