  2. What did under pressure Lopetegui and Postecoglou say?published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

A number of managers go into this weekend's Premier League action under increasing pressure. Two of them spoke today - West Ham's Julen Lopetegui and Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou.

Lopetegui was asked plenty about his job security.

Lopetegui had a similar response to most of those questions and accepted the responsibility: "I understand all the things around football and I understand that my main responsibility is to be ready to face a tough match. It's a big opportunity and challenge for us at home. To be ready to achieve the three points, that is the most important thing."

    His other top lines were:

    • On whether he would walk away from the club: "I have a big commitment in my work."
    • On his players: "The players have been fantastic. [Great] commitment. I don't have anything to say against my players. I accept all the responsibility and pressure. That is why I am the coach.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou's main points were:

On fans: "They aren't behind me, they are behind the club. I have got no interest in who is behind me."

On team news: "Ben [Davies] too early again [to tell], he'll go for a scan today. Cuti [Romero] is due to train, we're not doing much today but we'll see tomorrow."

  3. What did other managers have to say?published at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Ruben Amorim goes into his fourth Premier League match in charge of Manchester United, off the back of a defeat to Arsenal in mid-week.

    • On knowing what his best starting XI is: "We are in that process of knowing the players and we are managing that. We are getting closer to an idea, yes."
    • On his players working hard out of possession: "This one is the easy one, effort. Full sprint back, full sprint forward. Our focus is a lot on that."

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery threw his support behind Russell Martin, the Southampton manager, who he comes up against this weekend.

    • On Martin: "I appreciate a lot some teams, some young coaches, how they are being brave, playing, showing different ways tactically. One of them is Russell Martin."

And the new Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy confirmed there will be money available to spend in January as he bids to fight against relegation.

  4. Two Championship matches postponed due to Storm Darraghpublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December
    Breaking

How much will Storm Darragh affect the football calendar this weekend?

Two matches have fallen by the wayside - Saturday's Championship clash between Cardiff and Watford has just been postponed, and Plymouth v Oxford is also off.

Cardiff said on their 'X', external account that the decision was made after "new advice received from the Met Office, and the recommendations of Cardiff Council and South Wales Police" in the interest of supporter safety.

  5. What did Slot, Maresca, Arteta and Guardiola say?published at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

We have heard from a whole host of managers today so let's have a summary of some of the clubs in the top four.

    Liverpool's Arne Slot said:

    • On Caoimhin Kelleher: "He can go into this game with a lot of confidence."
    • On first Merseyside derby for him: "It is going to be special for everyone. For all the fans, players and the managers involved. To be part of the game is already special but it being the last one at Goodison makes it even more special."

Chelsea's Enzo Maresca top lines were:

    • On Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou being booed: "It's nothing new. It depends on their results and situation. Is it fair or unfair? It's our job".
    • On Moises Caicedo's position: "Probably Moi as a full-back inside was in our minds from day one but because of the Romeo [Lavia] injury we decided to use him as a holding midfielder. For sure in the future we can use him as a full-back.

    Arsenal's Mikel Arteta said:

    • On team news: "It's match day minus two, so we have to modify a few players, we have another training session tomorrow so we will see how everybody is for Sunday."
    • On the corner kings term: "We want to be kings of everything."

And Man City's Pep Guardiola said:

  6. Team news round-uppublished at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

    • For Liverpool, Alisson is not ready to return, Diogo Jota and Fedrico Chiesa are close and the rest of their injury list is out.
    • Manchester City's Nathan Ake and Phil Foden are out, while Manuel Akanji is a doubt.
    • Arsenal remain evasive about their team news with Mikel Arteta they have to "wait and see" who is available, which means there's no confirmation whether Gabriel will play at Fulham or not.
    • Their north London rivals Tottenham say Ben Davies is having a scan and Cristian Romero is due to train before the visit of Chelsea.
    • But, for Chelsea, after making seven changes in midweek, Mykhailo Mudryk is unwell and will miss the trip while Reece James and Wesley Fofana are a 'matter of weeks' away.
    • Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim confirmed Johnny Evans and Victor Lindelof will miss this weekend's game, but they do have Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez returning from suspension.
    • Crystal Palace say this weekend's match is a game too soon for Adam Wharton and Chiad Riad.
    • Leicester City say there is no new injury concerns. Odsonne Edouard is back on the pitch and Harry Winks is "progressing well".

  7. Sutton's predictions: Tottenham v Chelseapublished at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Tottenham v Chelsea (Sun, 17:30 GMT)

    chris sutton

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou got a fair bit of flak after going over to speak to some Spurs fans following Thursday's defeat by Bournemouth.

Football is a fickle business sometimes. It wasn't a good result, but you only have to go back a week or two and they were cheering Ange off after winning at Etihad Stadium.

Usually I would expect a reaction from Spurs but they are so unpredictable that I don't know what will happen. They could win this game 4-0 like they did against Manchester City, or lose it by the same scoreline.

So, I am going with Chelsea here. While I do wonder about their experience, I think Enzo Maresca's side are title contenders even if he insists they aren't.

Maresca may genuinely believe that, or he might be saying it to take the pressure off his players.

When I won the title with Blackburn in 1995, the club's owner Jack Walker, always planned to win it the year after, but when you are in the title race and you keep winning then there is no reason why you shouldn't embrace being ahead of schedule.

Everyone slammed Chelsea's owners for spending so much on so many players and building such a big squad, but maybe there was a method in what people saw as madness.

They are playing with real confidence at the moment and look completely different to the team they were last season. Nicolas Jackson is an example of how much they have improved and, after being rested against Southampton in midweek, he will be refreshed and ready to go.

This was the game last year where Spurs went down to nine men and lost 4-1. If there is any element of doubt from their players in their style of play, then Chelsea could take them apart again this time too.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-3

  8. Sutton's predictions: Crystal Palace v Man Citypublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Crystal Palace v Man City (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Chris sutton

Crystal Palace's win at Ipswich on Tuesday was huge for them, and it was comfortable enough in the end.

Manchester City finally returned to winning ways against Nottingham Forest - and it was a result they fully deserved - but are they really back?

What happens at Selhurst Park should give us an idea, and this is not an easy game for them. Forest had chances at the Etihad Stadium when the score was 1-0 and I am still not convinced by City's defending.

They were much better going forward with Kevin de Bruyne and Jeremy Doku in the team against Forest, though.

Doku gave them the energy and ideas out wide that they have been missing and while he is not the finished article he is always a handful with his dynamism and the way he drives at teams.

On his day, he can be devastating and it might be a moment of magic from him that makes the difference here, and breaks down a stubborn Palace side.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

  10. Sutton's predictions: Everton v Liverpoolpublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

    Sutton bannerImage source, BBC Sport

Liverpool let victory slip away right at the end of their game with Newcastle on Wednesday, with Caoimhin Kelleher's mistake proving costly.

But he has been excellent for them while Alisson has been out injured and I don't think a draw at St James' Park is a bad result.

Everton come into this game in better form following their win over Wolves, which was a huge result for Toffees boss Sean Dyche after the run they were on.

They can definitely make things difficult for Liverpool, and I suspect they will be fairly direct when they attack, but Arne Slot's side should have too much quality for them.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

  11. Man City's injury listpublished at 15:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

    Manchester City

Earlier, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Nathan Ake and Phil Foden would miss this weekend's trip to Crystal Palace.

They've had their fair share of injury problems. This is how their treatment room currently looks:

    • Nathan Ake - out for this weekend (thigh)
    • Manuel Akanji - a doubt for this weekend (other)
    • Phil Foden - out for this weekend (ill)
    • Rodri - out for the season (knee)
    • Oscar Bobb - out until at least January (calf)
    • Mateo Kovacic - out until Christmas time (other)
    • John Stones - out for this weekend (ankle)

  12. 'We have still got a pretty healthy squad'published at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Ipswich v Bournemouth (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Ipswich Town

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna on rotating his squad after Tuesday's defeat to Palace:

"We made some changes on Tuesday night that were necessary. It's not going to be the same XI every game. On Tuesday you could see the challenge for a couple of our younger players having to play Saturday-Tuesday in the Premier League for the first time.

"We'd like to have one or two more available to rotate, but in general we've still got a pretty healthy squad."

Everton v Liverpool (Sat, 12.30 GMT)

...Everton ruined Liverpool's Premier League title hopes.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the goals in a 2-0 victory last April, a result which also provided a huge boost to Everton's successful survival bid.

  16. No new injury concerns for van Nistelrooypublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Leicester v Brighton (Sun 14:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on squad availability for Sunday's match against Brighton: "The squad from Tuesday is available. Odsonne [Edouard] was back on the pitch, so that's an addition to Tuesday's squad. Other than that, we don't expect any changes.

"Harry [Winks] is progressing well but he's not yet into team training."

  17. Arsenal's bogey club?published at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Fulham v Arsenal (Sun, 14.00 GMT)

It is not too far-fetched to suggest that Fulham cost Arsenal the Premier League title last season.

Arsenal took just one point against the Whites last season over two games, on their way to finishing two points off champions Manchester City.

Fulham beat Arsenal 2-1 on New Year's Eve 2023, having held them to a 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium the previous August - Joao Palhinha scoring an 87th minute equaliser.

  18. Money available for van Nistelrooy in Januarypublished at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Leicester v Brighton (Sun 14:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was asked about the January transfer window: "There were conversations about that in those two conversations that we had before I signed. We spoke about the winter window and towards the summer.

"We said that there is no rush to do things and I agree with that. The squad we have is getting all of the chances to prove themselves over this month. There is time after that to make a good assessment and we make a decision in January."

When asked if there is money available to spend in January: "Yes."

  19. 'We tried to get the players in a better shape mentally'published at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Leicester v Brighton (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on the quick turnaround after defeat at Fulham: "On one side you can say it's not good the games come so fast because of regeneration and being prepared.

"On the other side you can say it's a good thing because you can immediately get back the points you lose and improve.

"We didn't do so well in the last game. We tried to regenerate the players today and bring them a bit away from football and get them in a better shape mentally. Then we have one good day tomorrow for preparation and then I'm sure we will be ready to face Leicester."

  20. Arsenal reunion at Craven Cottagepublished at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December

Fulham v Arsenal (Sun, 14.00 GMT)

This London derby on Sunday will have an extra edge as several former Arsenal players face their old club for Fulham.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno, plus midfielders Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi all used to ply their trade for the Gunners.

One player who will be absent however is Reiss Nelson - as the winger is on loan at Fulham from Arsenal, and cannot face his parent club.
